D. Gray Man is supposed to be better in manga form. Death Note is better in anime form.

Yeah D.Gray Man is much better as a manga. I don't even watch the anime anymore, because of the damn fillers.

Any manga is better than the anime.
Watching the animated version can be a nifty extra but not more.

*wonders why this thread is here instead of anime section :ninja

Death Note - Both versions are great so it doesn't matter which one imo..

D.Gray Man - M.A.N.G.A

although Kanda kicks ass in anime..

Read DGM, you have to read it, it is amazing. The anime is eh, probably only good for figuring out what's happening during the fight scenes since they are somewhat chaotic in the manga.

I haven't read D. Grayman.

I dunno about D.Gray-man, but for Death Note, you should check out both anime and manga. The anime is good, but it's very rushed and some scenes that appear in the manga are seriously cut or even left out. The manga is better.

D gray man, eather, I have hurd the manga is good, but I hve not read it, the anime I certainly like.

Deathnote again, both are good, however the last two ep's of deathnote anime will possibly now not ever be subed. So your need to buy the last couple of ep's on DVD.

Get both in manga form unless you're having some problems with figuring out what the heck is going on in D.Gray Man, which can happen sometimes.

Read the manga first for both of them and then watch the anime's. With the way D. Gray-man is going, you might have to. Still both are great choices to start with.

D.gray-man as manga, and Death note as anime.
The D.gray man anime suffers from some bad fillers already.

Definately D.Gray-man as manga.

Death Note... you could do either or both. I LOVE the anime adaption of Death Note and you'll basically get the whole story from just watching that, but reading manga is always great too.

Death Note is very good either way. I think it works better as a manga, though.

D.Gray-man is better as a manga.

Manga for both of them. The D. Gray-Man anime has quite a lot of filler, while the Death Note anime cut a lot of stuff (mostly minor stuff, but they still cut stuff out nonethless for whatever reason) out.

So, I'd reccomend reading the manga first for both of them. Then, if you feel like it, watch their respective animes.

I'd highly recommend that you watch the anime first. You simply aren't going to get the same feeling you would get from the anime by reading the manga first, the animation and soundtrack/voice acting take Death Note to a different level, leaving the only reason to read the manga being to see what Madhouse decided to remove.

Madhouse made sure Death Note will be in many anime fans top 10. Apart from giving the second half of the manga more time and airing in HD, there isn't any possible way the anime could be improved.

(Sorry for the off-topicness, but...)

I disagree. They could have not cut anything out from the manga, since there was absolutely no reason to (since the manga was finished and all that when the anime started airing), and just left everything in. That's the one thing I have against the Death Note anime. Yeah, they didn't cut out anything major, but that doesn't change the fact that there was no need to cut out what they did in the first place.

Many manga fans were acting like the series was over after episode 25 aired. Assuming the majority of the Japanese share this view, Madhouse most likely picked up on it and decided to keep only the best bits. We'll have to create a poll about this issue once the anime has ended. :)

Mello, Mello, Mello... My only real Death Note anime disappointment. He played a big part at first, goes out of the picture, then comes back randomly and goes back out in a rather anti-climatic way - He needed more time on screen. But, if Mello losing screen time is the only real negative to come out of Madhouse removing the more boring and pointless material, it was worth the cost.

Anyway, on topic: You can always read the manga to fill in the blanks after watching the anime. I find it much more enjoyable to do that way myself.

For Death Note, anime or manga is your choice but perfer manga just because like what Shiron said, anime cuts off some stuff from manga.

DGM, definately 100% go with manga.

The Death Note Anime is pretty decent. Which I can't say about the D.Gray-man anime. I started reading both as they were still mangas. the watched the anime as It was released. Well I stopped watching D.Gray man during episode 20-something, because it just didn't get the right feeling the manga had^^".
