H.M.S. Surprise vs. The Black Pearl

The H.M.S. Surprise, commanded by Captain "Lucky" Jack Aubrey (from the movie Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World), is ordered to hunt down the infamous Black Pearl, commanded by Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean).

Three challenges:

Could the Surprise catch the Black Pearl? The Pearl may be one of the fastest ships on the sea, but Lucky Jack knows how to catch a ship- the whole point of the movie was catching a faster ship.

Which ship is superior?

Which captain would win a sword duel?

Well, if there's one thing Sparrow's good at, it's escaping -- so no, I don't think the Pearl'd get caught.

As for a swordfight, Aubrey is handicapped by the more-realistic nature of his adventures, whreas Sparrow is a pure movie swashbuckler. Sparrow again.
