Well, I searched through all of Channel 12 and I've yet to see a thread devoted solely to Wolf's Rain, so I thought I'd start one, for the benefit of those that enjoy this series. Er...I hope I'm not the only here that likes it. :o
BTW, there might be spoilers in this thread, so I'm just warning those that haven't seen the series that they might want to turn back. Otherwise, read at your own risk.
Anyways, for the rest of us...
Do you have any favorite characters or favorite episodes?
Do you feel that the ending was "dissatisfying?" Why or why not?
-My favorite characters are Kiba, Tsume (maybe it's just because of Crispin Freeman...), Blue, and Harmona. Yeah, I know, Harmona spends most of the series in a coma and doesn't appear to do all that much, but well...I like her. I feel kind of sorry for her.
-And as far as the ending goes, I know quite a few people that absolutely hated it. (But these people also happened to hate the ending of Cowboy Bebop.) I don't know, I mean, given the gloomy atmosphere of the show from the very beginning, I just don't see how the story could have ended any other way and stayed true to the theme. Besides, what with all the foreshadowing in the first few minutes of the first episode, I kind of felt like any other ending would have been false.
I'm really interested in hearing other people's opinions on this. Tell me why you like Wolf's Rain (or don't like it). :)

Finally, another person who likes Wolf's Rain!
Wolf's Rain is my all-time favorite anime; pity this isn't true with as many people as I would like. I guess people just don't like the lack of blatent humor that they have become all-too accustomed to as well as the general darkness throughout the series.
Okay, now for the questions:
-Characters: There isn't anyone out of the main group I really disliked, but I'd have to say my least favorite would be Cheza. My favorite would be a toss up between Tsume and Hige. Other characters I liked were Darcia, Cher, and Hubb. It was nice how Cher and Hubb started out divorced, but their relationship slowly built back up until they realized their love for each other right before Cher died. My least favorite character in the entire series would be Jagura, since it's mostly her fault every remaining being on the planet died (she destroys all other cities and places the surviving humans in her own (which I believe is destroyed as well by her attempts to create a false Paradise), EATS all remaining wolves except the main four, drives Darcia insane by unplugging HArmona's life support AND poisoning him, ect ect...).
-Ending: Wow. As you said, the way the ending took place was perfect for the overall theme. I know many people object to the "killing off" of all the main characters, but everyone HAD to die. A 100% happy ending just does not fit with the connotation of Wolf's Rain. They also all died dramatic deaths and were not simply "killed off" (Especially Hige and Cheza, if you really count Cheza as having "died"). My favorite poins were: From when Darcia mortally wounded Blue to when Tsume killed Hige (the whole Hige/Blue death scene) and from when Darcia was destroyed (except for his eye of course) to when the world was reborn. The extensive use of symbolism and references from past points in the series (As well as the opening theme) really show that the creators put a lot of work into making the ending. In my opinion, they succeeded.
Theoretically, the series could go on forever; an infinite cycle of the Earth being reborn until either Darcia fails to make it to the Entrance to Paradise (Resulting in the next world being Paradise) or Kiba fails to make it to the Entrance (Resulting in the next world being Hell). Of course, the creators can't keep adding on for all these additional worlds; I just wish they had added more to the main one they portrayed. The only thing that I did not like about the ending is that it is, well, the end.
(Note: My original post was GOING to be longer, but my cat stepped on the delete key... -.-)

Oh wow a wolfs rain thread
My favorite characters would have to be tsume hige blue cher cheza but Kiba was my favorite cause he was the coolest and it was his dream first. What really surprised me was near the end of the series when cher fell from the cliff.I mean who would of thought that she would have died first from the main cast.
ending
As far as the ending went i pretty much didnt get it. I mean was that paraise or not because there was eye of whats his face was there on the flower.
wandthen it just showed the city when the main cast was. cold someone explain?

 what have i missed? how many episodes is wolf's rain.... i don't remember seeing everyone died(i gotta have missed som episodes then?)
anyways, my favourite is kiba... just love the personality... he just keep going for his goal and nothing can stop him :p
and the reason i like the serie, probably is because i just love wolves.. and the series IS fun and realy nicely drawn, i just love the theme, the characters, the drawing, everything about it... its totaly my favourite serie;) even beats scryed!
i love it.
i really get into the characters i think they did a great job of giving them distinct personalities, although the fights/battle's aren't a big emphasis in the series, something dramatic is always happening and i coudln't wait to see what happened next
anybody else..?
i love this series...
specially the ending it was
so sad :crying but it also
kinda sucked good thing
they're making an OVA for
it
my favorite characters
would Toboe and Kiba :)
yah i agree the end was really sad
but knowing that they're making an OVA makes me happy
my favorites would have to be Hige and Toboe

One of my favorite anime. I really liked the ending, but I won't spoil it. It was just a good way to end the series, althought I've been to forums where people said it sucked, but we all have out opinions :)
The storyline was good and yet different, because not too many animations focuses on wolves and mostly, you see shows where wolves are the enemy, but in Wolf's Rain, they're not really the enemy. You see their POV on how they try to live.
Not to mention, their OST are very well composed. I love the music in there :)
i like the whole idea of then against the whole world, and trying to make it with jsut their small pack, and like i said before about the characters, it was intresting seeing how they all got along and worked together since they all have such distinct and different personalities, it made for a lot of personality conflicts and clashes
and i liked the ending too:)
yeah
but i would've prefer
more female wolves...
Blue kicks ass
yah, i could tell from the start about blue, and i was just waiting for it to happen, she was definitely cool
indeed she was but i didn't
like the fact that she had
to die
and the other guys too.
yah that was a downer when that happend
*SPOLIER* but then in the end they were all given another chance and alive again, but i hope they all still knew each other or it would still be sad
Mimiru

I would like to see some more female wovles join them, but I guess it didn't happen. Blue was good enough though. She definitly kicks a$s :p
SPOILERS ahead: If you haven't seen the whole series, DON'T READ!
I think having the other wovles die was a good thing. It's just not likely if they all survived. Perhaps Tsume couldv'e survived but, that didn't happen. I just though the ending was touching and how they ended like it was the beginng.. the end of a beginning? Haha, if you get what I mean ^^;
spoiler i don't think it'd make sense if any of them lived, cuase the whole thing is they are all getting another chance to live, and another chance to find paradise next time, since Darcia ruined paradise this time
Mimiru

Are you referring to the part where the flower changed color? If yes, I think that's a sign that there will still be 'darkness' even if they did reach paradise. That's what I think atleast.. unless someone comes up with a better reason -__-

erg... is there anywhere i can get wolf's rain? im getting the manga but i want to watch the anime too
Mimiru
01-10-2005, 09:07 PM
I'm watching it off from TV. I'm not sure where you can go download the episodes though.
yah i was a little confused by the ending
when darcia walked into the entrance to paradise he got destroyed, so why didn't Kiba try entering paradise, did that mean he choose not to open paradise and now he's going to try all over again
or was the blooming of all those flowers a sign that paradise was reached
and also when darcia's false eye was in the water and it changed the colors of the flower, was that something to indicate that paradise was tainted by him?
jsut some thoughts i have about the ending, i'm not really sure what to make of it
maybe spolerBut if Tsume survived wouldn't it
make scence if kiba too survived, afer all
he is the main character
Does anyone know when
the OVA is coming out?
and hows the manga i want
to get that too.
yah that could happen but
kiba wanted to find paradise, i don't think having most of his friends and cheza dead would be a very good paradise for him
Mimiru

Spoilers:
I thought Kiba did enter paradise. Remember when all the others died, Kiba said to each one of them that he'll see them in paradise?
Though I do agree with you Moro, that Kiba cloud've started everything over, because the very last OVA episode, where Kiba lies on the ground was just how episode one started like, just without the blood.
I don' know when the OVAs going to get on sale, but the manga is out right now. I've only read the first few pages at the store, so I'm not sure what's it really like. But perhaps, it's going to be like the anime :amuse
Spoilers:
I thought Kiba did enter paradise. Remember when all the others died, Kiba said to each one of them that he'll see them in paradise?
well when Darcia got killed, that was the entrance to paradise right? so was the lake kiba was laying on, then fell through, that same lake that darcia tried to walk onto?
and if so then i think he did enter paradise chose, and then chose to try everything again form the starting, and all his friends were given another chance to live also, but maybe paradise was already ruined becasue of darcia, so they all get another chance to reach a new paradise?
all this spolier text is annoying : p

Mimiru

Cheza mentioned that the old lady was a flower maiden, but she and Cheza are different. I've only seen this episode once, so I might be wrong.

the old maiden was diff i dont know how though?
i think they were diff because the wolfs are using cheza and the old maiden wasnt used.... but then that leave the question for how did she wake up???
yah that's what i was trying to get at, i mean was she made the same as cheza and somebody planned to open paradise with her, but something happened so she never got used and was jsut left to grow old?

Okay, I saw the episode with the old flower maiden again, Song of Sleep. The old maiden mentioned that Cheza was a perfect creation. I suppose born perfectly?
Now, Cheza did mention that she had been waiting for Kiba, so she could finally be awaken. Lunar flowers are suppose to be awaken by wolves and lead them to paradise right? The old maiden mentioned that every last one of her kind were all dead or killed somehow, but she managed to escape.
My guess is that some previous wolves or nobles might've been searching for the 'perfect lunar flower creation' (which is Cheza, but of course Cheza wasn't bloomed yet) so they could open paradise, but had failed so they.. I don't know... killed the unperfect lunar flowers?
-__- My guess might be weird.. but I've only seen the whole Wolf's Rain series once.
Guess what guys!

[A4E]Wolf `s Rain 1-26 (http://anime-4ever.org//torrents/)
Here is a review I wrote up after finishing off Wolf's Rain about.. Half an hour ago. I have to say, I am impressed..
These are the scores I gave the series at AnimeNfo:
Average: 9.3
Animation: 10
Sound: 9
Story: 9
Character: 9
Value: 9
Enjoyment: 10
And now, the review:
------------------------------------------------
Animation
The animation in Wolf's Rain is top notch, that's all I really need to say.. Honestly.
Whenever a blizzard hits, you realize just how much attention to detail went into Wolf's Rain. At one point, I didn't even know that I was looking at an animated snowstorm. It looked REAL.
Characters are all done pretty well, and they all have their own unique appearances, with the exception of Hubb Lebowski who looks like a 1930's cop. I'm sure that this was intentional though.
I really don't know what to say. Landscapes were beautiful, characters looked great, effects were good.. The animation is simply above average.
Sound
I adore the sound in this anime. The soundtrack, from the opening and ending themes, to the orchestrated (I believe so) music that played during the episodes, the music knocked my socks off. Top quality stuff here, guys and girls.
Voices were good as well. I didn't listen to the Japanese voices beyond episode one because I enjoyed the dub voice actors more.. I'm not saying that the Japanese voices were bad, no.. The English cast just did such a great job bringing the characters to life for those of us who speak English.
Story
The story is a little odd, but if you pay enough attention to it, you won't have any problems understanding it at all. I won't really go into it for the sake of spoilers, but pay attention to every character who seems fixated on Paradise. You'll pick up on the story easily if you do.
As far as story progression goes, a few "arcs" of the story may feel a little dragged out, but it isn't too bad. As stated in other reviews, there are a few filler episodes in the middle of the series that just recap everything that happened. I watched most of the first one before I realized that it was just recycled scenes, so I skipped over them. Once you hit episode 20, the story really gets interesting and all sorts of new problems emerge..
And then when episode 26 rolls around, things become very, very dramatic. I won't lie, if you do find yourself loving the series up to this point (episode 26 and beyond) you may find some of the following episodes to be tear jerkers. I know I did..
Anyway, the early portions of the series just focuses on building the personalities of the characters. The middle builds on the story, and the last ten episodes puts the pieces of the puzzle together.
Characters
The characters in Wolf's Rain were all very well done... With the exception of one. Can you guess who? No, not some random, generic character who only appears every ten episodes. Kiba, the main character, is the one I have in mind. What's wrong with Kiba? Well, he is very bland and one dimensional. Unlike the rest of the cast, his personality never really grows at all. The only thing that is ever on his mind is Paradise it seems. I understood his character, yes, but he was just so shallow and I don't know how this happened considering he is the protagonist..
The rest of the cast is great though. Cher Degre and Hubb Lebowski are simply amazing together, and it isn't until very late in the series that we realize just how much they mean to each other.. Anyone who has watched all of the series will know exactly what I am talking about. The same can be said about Quent the wolf hunter and his dog Blue. They have a very interesting relationship that really grows throughout the series.. The same goes for Toboe and Tsume, believe it or not.
It seems like every character has had a rough life or something that has really messed with their way of doing things, but there is a plus side.. Every character has a shoulder to lean on at some point, and that is a nice thing.
The characters, except for Kiba, are all fantastic and develop an awful lot throughout the series.
Value
I had the option of watching the dub or sub.. I listened to each very closely in the first episode and decided to go with the english dub. Why?
Well, like Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain has a very distinct western feel to it. The voice actors in the dub do a fantastic job, especially towards the end of the series. I might watch the series again with the Japanese voices, but I am still blown away by the fantastic job the English voices did.
------------------------------------------------------------
Spoiler crap:
I'm not going to deny it. Wolf's Rain made me shed a few tears. First off, I'm going to point a finger at the English voices. Yes, I am playing the BLAME GAME. The voice acting in Wolf's Rain was very well done, which made the later episodes especially difficult to stomach.
When Cher dies in Hubb's arms, and he begins weeping and crying her name out in between sobs, in full English, I couldn't help but shed a tear for the poor guy. I mean.. He had just worked so damn hard to get her back, and they had shared many wonderful moments together since being reunited. I can't count how many times I saw them laughing together.. And then, to see Mother Nature tear Cher away from Hubb... Ouch.
Her send off was very well done. Watching Hubb lower Cher's corpse into the water and then proceed to hopelessly push the jeep all by himself. How can you not feel bad for the Hubb? Honestly?!
And then, what, an episode or two later we get treated to the demise of not only Toboe, who was a main character, but the awesome Quent. Watching Toboe jump between Darcia and Quent, immediately after Quent told Blue that she wasn't his dog anymore and leaving was so damn heavy. After Quent accidently shoots Toboe I honestly didn't expect him to run to his side. It was like something deep inside Quent, something warm and fuzzy, came back to life... And then yeah, Darcia shot Quent. ARGH!!!
So now two well developed characters are laying together in the cold snow, dying. One is a wolf who fought desperately to gain the acceptance of humans. The other, an old man who hated wolves with a passion.
When Quent put his hand on Toboe's neck, rubbed him and said "You're a good boy." ... Oh holy hell, that did it for me. And I thought the Cher death was dramatic. Seeing Quent letting go of his past and finally accepting wolves under those circumstances was tough to stomach. This was without a doubt the saddest scene I have seen yet in any anime I've watched.
I was REALLY rooting for Hubb, since he was the only human left now. It was right after Quent and Toboe died that Hubb said that he would stick with them because he too wanted to see Paradise. Wow.
I was surprised, he managed to get pretty far.. Until he realized that mountain climbing wasn't exactly one of his strong points. Hubb's death wasn't as bad.. I mean, he went willingly and all. Seeing him hold up the cigar he found earlier as the wolves proceeded up the mountain towards Paradise.. GENIUS!!
Now, I don't even want to comment on how Darcia slaughtered Blue, Hige, and Tsume. That whole scene just angered me so much. It told me "Hey, guess what? Bland ol' Kiba is going to be the only one left because you know that Cheza is going to die!! You've known it since the first episode!"
And of course, Cheza died. As did Darcia.... But then wow, Kiba died. I honestly didn't see that coming... And for a minute or two, I sat wondering what the hell I just watched. Everyone died!? Jesus, that was worse than Evangelion's ending! At least Evangelion left two people alive!!
But then, what's this? Paradise, I presume? Everything is back to normal. We see Kiba walking along a city street. Tsume goes by on a motorcycle. Hige is stuffing his face. Toboe is making friends with a kitten. I was a little happy to see everyone alright again, especially Tsume since he was my favourite character... But where was Cher? Quent? Blue? Hubb? ... And didn't Cheza tell Kiba that she would be waiting for him in Paradise or something? Where was she?
I guess that last ending scene just left us with more unanswered questions, but.. I'm alright with that. Wolf's Rain was a damn good series. I enjoyed watching every episode, and I don't regret a minute of it. :)

Well I totally dug this series and I'm glad you got something out of it, even the English version.
I expected nothing less since most of the crew were the same people that worked on Bebop. Same writers, music composer, animators, etc.
The end is very tragic and sad, but its also beautiful in a way. I think its just one of those things where the cycle of life starts over again and Kiba is stuck in an eternal search and struggle for Paradise. Maybe there isn't a real Paradise, but something Kiba had already found and didn't realize it yet.
My favorite moment was when Toboe snapped and defeated the Walrus, getting his first kill.

yes the ending was very tragic.. every time the bad guy (4got name xD) bit the flower girl.. i was like 'oh nooo ..nooo!!' XD
but they were there at the very ending.. which really lifted my spirits..
one thing that made me wonder was that, the bad guys eye still was there.. and was absorbed by one of those flowers..
are they making plans for a continuing the series?

I admit this comes around a year later after this thread ended but I just finished watching it and I cried my eyes out but in my opinion the saddest moments in this series was
When both Hubb and Cher die as well as Quent and Toboe's death. Those deaths shocked me but then after seeing them Cher, Quent and Toboe die I was not surprised at all when Hubb fell from the mountain and died I just could feel it was going to happen and when It did it was sort of shocking because I really liked Hubb and Cher the most because they searched for each other for so long and the reunion between the both of them was so sad. Quent and Toboe dying in each other's arms made me really sad because Quent had finally realized that Wolves could be people's friends and I just absolutely cried at that touching scene.

My view on the ending:
Paradise is merely a rebirth of the world. Kiba reached paradise at the end of the series, thus the world was brought out of the ice age. The world dieing and being reborn is a constant cycle.
I think Kiba is the chosen "white wolf" who's role is to find a pack of wolves and lead them to paradise, in each rebirth of the world. This would explain Kiba's innate calling to go to paradise and how it said he was "chosen".
I don't think Tsume and the others are wolves anymore in the new world either. Im thinking the only constant wolf is Kiba.

studio Bones makes beautiful series in my opinion such as Cowloy Bebop or hellsing and Wolf's rain is not a exception... the characters, the story, the art is very beautiful and the music of Yoko Kanno is truly exceptionnal, it always makes me think of the soundtrack of a movie when I hear it.
I agree with you Sirius, besides we saw at the end that all the wolves secretly knew that they could not go to paradise and were going to die in any event. But Man, even if at the end they sort of reborn in a new world, I was ver moved by their deaths, especially Toboe. And Blue? Why don't we saw her at the end?:(

Alright I'm a little confused about the ending. Are all the characters now human or what after being reborn?
Catterix

Put that message in spoiler tag.
And it seems so, yes. The earth is on a constant cycle of being reborn, just like how a flower opens and closes itself every night and day. There is a constant force on the earth trying to find peace, but no matter what, evil keeps intervening which takes the form of the most powerful being at that time (In the wolf's rain story, these are wolves. Then in the reborn world, its humans).

I just think its safer, especially, since originally, that was the first post in a thread. So if someone had never seen the show came here and thought this was a thread where they could download it, for example, they'd get spoiled right away.
I know I'm being overly cautious, I just don't want what happened for me to happen to others. Someone here made a thread about Hunter X Hunter, and it was just a question, asking about the ending (which I hadn't seen at that point, and was currently watching up to) revealing exactly what happened, making me feel very sour indeed. :mad Like a lemon in fact :)
So I just thought for precautions sake, if you're going to make a thread and mention the ending of any anime right away, it'd be best and most considerate to put it in a spoiler tag.
The dub's been out for nearly 3 years :)

I always get spoiled when watching older series. Once I just searched for the anime in Google and one of the website preview search results was someone saying that both the main characters die at the end. D:
Alright I'm a little confused about the ending. Are all the characters now human or what after being reborn?
Personally, I think that Tsume, Hige and Toboe are humans now, but Kiba's still a wolf.
Kiba doesn't show any human traits, whereas Tsume's riding a motor bike, Toboes with a cat (he said he was afraid of them as a wolf) and Hige... um, wasn't he eating donuts? XD; I don't remember. Well... whatever.
Kiba's just walking on through the rain - kinda like the begining, it almost seems like he's searching for something. As he was the chosen wolf who would open paradise in the last world, maybe it'll always be his job to lead the world to paradise at the end of the world.
Thats just my take on it anyways~

I loved wolf pain, it is a great anime, not to long at all. I love the story. Pure genius IMO My favorite was Kiba.

Yeah, this was the first full series I bought. I actually cried at the end.
For me, my favourite was Tsume, despite him wearing what looked like day-time BDSM outfits, he was just so badass imo.
nagareboshi, you're probably right. Or perhaps, he is human, but his spirit is not ready for it, everyone else is adapting to their lives as wolves (having forgotten they were wolves) but he's just having trouble, so he remains in the shadow. I dunno, I'm reading a lot into it, but there were so many hints throughout the story, after all, Kiba hated being in human form.
Great story.
Wow, you cried at the end? Do you do that much? Maybe I should pick it back up from the start....There has only been like one anime and one manga that move me that much.

lol Nah, I don't cry that much. I cried at the end of this though.
Don't quite see how that's irrelevant though...

Wolf's Rain is the saddest anime ever, imo. I've never cried so much at an anime or movie or anything like that. (I do cry alot at stuff like that tho, but never that much - I was like, crying for 10 minutes after it was over, it really affected me. XDD)
It was the series that made me an anime fan, and completely changed my completely ignorant opinion on the genre. A friend came back from a holiday in America and brought a Wolf's Rain DVD and wouldn't shut up about it, so I imported the DVD just to see if it was any good. XD; I was obsessed with it, but at the time I didn't know about fansubs or anything so every time a new DVD came out in the US I imported. Wolf's Rain's still my favourite anime and I imagin that it always will be. <3333

I liked it alot, unfortunately this has the worst ending I have ever seen on an anime, I dont give a crap if its a poethic ending or some crap like that, it simply sucked.
I dont know maybe I say that cause I didnt understood the ending or something.

DDLs! Awesome! I recently discovered this series while looking at what other series Bones has produced, since I'm a big fan of their work on Darker Than Black and Eureka Seven. Definitely going to check this out! Thanks again for DDLs :)

I actually posted on the Gingasite forums a while ago on my views of what the ending was supposed to mean.
Basically at the very beginning of the anime we see that Kiba has died much like he does in the end of the series. Openning the gates of paradise means, that yes it's a rebirth of the world. More so the "wolf's" paradise is the actual world itself. Towards the final episodes of Wolf's Rain or to be more precise the OVAs, it starts off with the story from the Book of Moon, and actually tells a little bit more, including the story that was stated by the Indians.
Kiba is not the chosen wolf, but the reincarnate of the same wolf that opened the first paradise, or rather he is the wolf that always opens paradise. The wolves themselves are messengers of the Gods (this is stated in the origins of the wolves story in the episode where Kiba was revived from the Garden of Eternity) and that they were sent to help humans fend off demons. Later on it's stated by Darcia that some humans are wolves that have forgotten their wolf forms and thus can no longer return being wolves.
As Kiba repeatedly opens paradise, it creates a new "Earth" which would mean that the past Earth's met the same fate as the one before it- self-destruction. The ending is really ambigous, because obviously Hige, Toboe, and Tsume have all become humans, seeing as how humanized meaning that they've forgotten their forms. The Lunar flower growing in the alley may in fact be Cheza, but the really ambiguous thing is whether or not Kiba is still a wolf.
Not only that it's clear that the setting is modern-day Japan, and it makes you wonder whether if we're going on with a path of self-destruction or if Kiba has become a human and no longer needs to create a new paradise seeing as this world won't destroy itself. The other thing that can be unsettling is the fact that Darcia's eye created an impurity within one of the Lunar flowers left by the seeds that were created from the wilted Cheza. It may symbolize yin-yang where Kiba represents purity (white wolf, untainted) and Darcia represents corruption. (crimson wolf, bloodstained) It may mean that Darcia is the reason behind self-destruction and tainted every paradise before it seeing as he was a Noble in the Wolf's Rain storyline, or if this world to be truly a paradise all aspects of life including evil, need to be put into this world.
That's my view on it. Rather long eh? :zaru

Now this is a nostalgic thread. ^^ I like your take on the ending.
I WUV THIS ANIME!!!
favorite character is definetly Hige, after that Blue, then Tsume... I don't like Cheza though, her eyes scare me...
As for the ending... I liked it, I was sad about what happened to Cher, Hubb, Toboe, Quent, Blue, Tsume, and Hige tho... and I didn't see Blue in teh last little scene thingy, that kinda depressed me, Blue is the best female character. Worst part bout the end is that it's the end, and no more eps are gonna come out

...Nobody likes Toboe?
:uwah
I actually liked the ending, I thought it was really meaningful for a view on Paradise. Wolf's Rain is probably the deepest anime I've ever seen soley because of the ending.
I actually didn't cry as much as I thought I would. Only when Toboe died, basicly (but then of course I watched a crap load of sappy AMV's and started crying all over again).
