I'm sure you all are wondering- why the hell is radishbak a mod. What's going on? This is blasphemy, this is madness.. etc etc
To be honest, this was quite suprising to me also, but that said, I will do my best to ensure that the OB keeps on rocking hard.
Just a quick FAQ on who I am, and what I will do, now that I am a mod-
Who am I?
I am radishbak. OB veteran of 2+ years, formerly just an observer of events, it has now fallen unto me to moderate this Battledome.
What am I?
I am not your mother- I won't tell you to play nice, cause you all are mature enough to know what is right and what is wrong
I am not a judge- I am not here to condemn you for every wrongdoing that you do
I am not the thought police- I won't tell you all what to think, or expect you all to conform to a certain way of acting, or posting, because the Battledome is about people of differing backgrounds and understandings coming together in the spirit of debate
What am I then?
I am not your mother, I am not your judge and I am not the thought police- I am a mod, and I am here to ensure that posters do the right thing and act in a civilised and responsible manner in the OB.
My monologue:
The Battledome is an institution. It is a giant playground for posters to pit characters from a multitude of areas, both fictional and non-fictional, in a contest of skill.
You all are Battledomers- a wise breed, you all are able to memorise facts about characters, and dig up scans of feats to back up your claims. You guys aren't stupid, although some of you all choose to act like it.
You guys are a chosen breed, you have actively chosen to come to the Battledome and take the side of your character and support them in battles towards victory.
So then, why the flaming? If you know your characters, your canon, your feats, your scans, why do you feel the need to engage in petty squabbling like children?
Let knowledge be your sword, and let the truth be your shield.
With knowledge of the character, strike at your opponents arguements and win the debate. Let the truth of your words be your shield against people who would attack you.
Let humor be your ointment.
Should someone choose to attack your character because they dislike you, then take it in good humor and carry on.
The flames you see on the internet are just words. They aren't going to burn you if you don't allow them. You may feel your pride being hurt, or your ego taking a bruising, but at the end of the day, NF is just one forum amongst many other forums, dwelling on the vast plane that is the Internet. A few small words or a sentence written in anger is just a drop of water in a very large ocean.
My promise to you:
From this day forth, everyone starts off with a clean slate.
Any hatred you may have with another battledomer is now forgotten. Everyone is to begin anew, all petty grudges are left buried in the sand. Judge your fellow posters, not from what they have said in the past, but from what they are saying in the present. People change, and right now, I'm giving you all the opportunity to change.
Should you still choose to engage in petty flaming, then you are wasting this opportunity being handed to you.
You all are here to have fun, and to this end, some of you have made it clear you enjoy flaming. To find enjoyment in the suffering of others is the most base form of humor that exists. What purpose does a thread which is 10 pages long and full of posts like "You're an idiot." "No YOU'RE an asshat" serve?
It serves no purpose except to make people angry, and in the end its this clogging up of the battledome which has made this place become the modforsaken area it is today.
Why was I made a mod?
Truthfully I cannot answer you that question. The OB is slowly starting to crack, and maybe it is thought that throwing one more mod into the mix will help. :oh
WTF- you are a mod and you have less then 1000 posts.
How are you supposed to keep the people in line?
Some may question the fact that I have so few posts. (260+ to be precise) Well. You all do remember this little thing we did awhile back, when we gave CBG all our posts right? :P
I've been in the OB for two years, and I am here every single day. Trust me when I say that my activity level is not an issue.
T'was Mark Twain who once said:
It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.
That is one fundament of how I post on NF, which is why I probably have less of a post count then the others who also donated their posts.
It is my hope that this saying will also become meaningful to you all and that we can all start to think before we speak. This is a forum, not instant messaging, not a conversation, you have time to go and re-write what you are going to say before you post it.
