Iron Man gave decent showings against Hulk in his old armor. Now, with Extremis, he's a HELL of a lot faster in combat speed (he was calculating attacks in milliseconds) and has self-repair capabilities. Also, I don't think anyone in OPverse has anything on the level of a unibeam or repulsor blast.

Plus, he flies. At hypersonic speeds.

IM has never had the ability to go toe-to-toe with HUlk or Thor for long periods, but his base armor has always been able to go toe-to-toe with them for short periods. He has multiple feats against both of them that go along these lines. He's also knocked out a fairly low-level Hulk (not particularly enraged, but not calm either) in his base armor (it caused his armor to shut down, but he did it). Against, other strong earth-bound heroes like Hercules and She-hulk his armor has no durability problems at all and he is usually able to beat them with just his fists.

The thing about IM, though, is he has much more powerful energy weapons than durability and they are backed up by the most sophisticated targetting systems on Marvel earth. He could slag Luffy in microseconds at ranges far beyond Luffy's abilities to even perceive him. The stealth capabilies of his base armor make him invisible to the naked eye, he can travel and fight from space, he can absorb far greater energy attacks than brawling attacks.

Actually...that's not the first time.

I believe Capcom looked to an Iron Man issue several years ago in the 90's
during the "Technivore" storyline for inspiration on the move.

In that issue, Iron Man uses a massive looking gun (looking very similar to the
PC he uses in the games).
