View Full Version : Between the Buried and Me

Don't you just love when you find a gem of a CD? I happened across this little beauty while looking through Best Buy, trying to find anything of value. I'd heard some decent things about them, being somewhat experimental, and yet having a very metal core sounds. Needless to say, though I was somewhat intrigued, I didn't have very high hopes.
However, after having listened to it, I have to say, I was more than just pleasantly suprised. I happen to really like this band, and despite the incessant (well, not quite) wall of noise sound that is often prevelant in that type of music, I found some incredibly, rythms, melody's and some tasteful bluesy and acoustic chords in it as well. These guys are indeed awesome.
(Quick person's version: Found Between the Buried and Me, I didn't think I'd like it, but I did. Yay.)
So, has anyone else here like them?

Which album did you get? Self-titled?
I got all their albums, really good stuff. If you got the self-titled, you definitely have to hear Alaska, it's a wonderful album. I can pimp it your way if you want to (and the subterranean ep).
Their latest release The Anatomy Of disappointed me a bit but it wasn't any real album, just a compilation of various covers. It's a fun album to listen to but not impressive. But still, Alaska, S/T and The Silent Circus are all worthy of having in your collection.

Alaska is the best really. Selkies: the Endless Obsession is by far my favourite song. Although I like some of their more ballad like stuff too. I think they have great voices really.
(Now I feel kinda bad for not telling you about them cause I've been listening to them for almost 2 years now xDDD)

I've not heard them, but this thread gives enough quality recognition for me to wonder why. Anyone feel up to enlightening me with an album or two?

I bought Alaska, and yes, it is such an awesome album, really one of those I wasn't expecting much with, but I'm glad I got it. Maybe a pimp could be in order...

I think a pimp is in order, but it may have to wait.

I agree with Voynich. Selkies: The Endless Obsession is my favorite song on Alaska (which is my favorite album by them). It has so many peaks and valleys in that song, it's crazy. The vocalist has a very nice singing voice also. My favorite part is from 3:45 onward. It's just a very powerful, moving moment from then forward. The guitars at 4:41 are so peaceful which clashes with the total chaos at the beginning of the song. And then from 5:48 til the end of the song I get this feeling like I just accomplished a huge goal and the credits for the movie are rolling :)

my liking for deathcore/metalcore is limited coz i find it pretentious and lacking integrity, but Between The Buried and Me have been the exception.
That is all

They are progressive. They don't really need the metalcore stamp on their scrotum.
