Analysis Thread: Fighting Capacity of the DGMverse

Hello everyone. I decided to create this thread in order to introduce a relatively new but very potent realm called the D.Gray-Manverse. I did this so that way people can get somewhat of a grasp for the DGM cast and know about their strength, speed, abilties, etc. I do not do this for fame or profit, just for the sake of productivity and information. So without further ado, let's begin.

Its Strength and Speed:

In terms of strength, D.Gray-Man does not really pride itself on that like One Piece, Bleach, or even Naruto to that matter. However, its true strength lies in the abilities of the character. D.Gray-Man features a cast of characters that have abilities that range from powerful to nearly insane and that is where its true strength as the one with the stronger ability wins nine out of ten times. So far, the exorcists, Noahs, and Level 3 Akumas have shown abilities that would enable them to fight on par with the mid tier shonenverses.

Speed: The speed of the D.Gray-Man is a bit more defined as the characters uses more speed feats than strength feats. However, it is not that much grounded since the only true speed we know of is Lenalee’s Otokase, which allows her to reach the speed of sound. They have shown that they can react to bullets:

And the akuma bullets and guns are based on 20th century weaponry, however we have no knowledge of which caliber they use thus we cannot that they are Mach this and Mach that yet. I would say that for right now, their speed is pretty high.

Abilities: This is where DGMverse's strength shines. The Exorcists, the Noahs, and even Akumas have multitude of abilities that can range from okay to broken. So far, the known abilities have been the Innocence of the Exorcists. The Innocence is almost like a zanpunkto to the Exorcists for as soon as it is activated, they receive a special ability depending on their innocence. It can range from special attacks to super speed, etc.

The Noahs and Akumas, especially Level 2 and 3, do not use Innocence but themselves have nasty abilities like instant body phasing, gravity control, materialization, airspace, etc, that make them dangerous foes even if the opponent has a strength and speed advantage.

Now, let's begin by introducing the first two characters, Allen Walker and Yu Kanda.

Allen Walker:

The protagonist of the series, Allen Walker is one of the stronger exorcists that exist in the Black Order thanks to his parasitic and akuma-like Innocence.

He possesses great strength and reaction speed as he was able to activate his innocence and block bullets like this:

His innocence has been said to resemble an akuma in terms of its nature, and it is quite surprisingly true as it evolves not once but three times. Let’s see what they are:

Alpha: The first and most basic form of his Innocence's invocation. In the form of a large claw that covers his entire arm, this form can use the Innocence's power for the "Cross Grave" (十字架ノ墓), a move that destroys a large amount of Level 1 Akuma at once through a series of cross-shaped slash attacks. In the anime, Cross Grave seems to be create crosses on Allen's targets and make them explode, seriously damaging or destroying the target.also able to stretch and grow to nearly limitless sizes.

- Beta : The second form took shape from his rage when an innocence was ripped out of a living doll in volume 2. It functions as a cannon which fires lightsaber-like rod projectiles dubbed the "Cross Beams". But, as stated before, it has a secondary function as close-range melee weapon. The cannon barrel narrows to fashion the Innocence's power into a highly-focused laser rod, dubbed the "Cross Blade," used for cutting. Allen can switch between both Beta forms and Alpha form at will.

- Gamma: The real form of his Innocence. When his weapon was destroyed by a member of the Noah family, Tyki Mikk, it became a fog that followed him until he was able to invocate it. After awhile, Allen has managed to regain control of his anti-Akuma weapon and achieved its fully-invoked form, which has been dubbed the "Crown Clown" (神ノ道化). In this form Allen grows a large white cape and his left arm turns into a slim black claw. In this form of the Innocence, he can use the following techniques:
• Clown Belt (道化ノ帯): Allen creates a web-like structure with his Innocence to grab or to attack something.
• Cross Grave (十字架ノ墓): the old technique has also been modified into two forms: an offensive attack (allowing him to easily destroy Level 3 Akuma with one finger) and a defensive mode (creating a shield);
• Edge End (破滅の爪): which he slashes at his enemies with his claw
• Crown Edge (爪ノ王輪): to shoot hundreds of projectiles in shape of crowns to cause a major destruction.

As of chapter 113, we have found out that Allen’s new innocence is like an armor as his cape was able to destroy Tykki Mikk’s projectiles with ease.

Allen is what I could call more of an well-rounded fighter, as in he does not have the fastest speed or strength, but yet he possess a very good blend of speed and power. But it is with his Innocence that Allen truly shines as he shown very efficient and potent abilities that makes him a threat to many people he faces.

Yuu Kanda:

The second exorcist to be profiled in this thread, Kanda is not only my second favorite exorcist and also the most badass, but he is also one of the strongest and probably the fastest in terms of overall speed. Now, let’s examine him:

Strength:

Not much is made about Kanda’s strength but his strength is definitely high as he was able to cut through Skin, a powerful Noah, like he was butter, and was able to do this to a collective monster created by millions of Akuma:

Mugen:

No, not the name of the fighting engine, this is the name of his equipment-type katana innocence. So far, it has shown only three forms, each more powerful than the others.

o Shouka (昇華, lit. Sublimate): Activating the power of his tattoo, his pupil changes into three dots. After this, he can activate the Kinki Sangenshiki;
• Kinki Sangenshiki (禁忌 「三幻式」, lit. Taboo Three Illusions): drastically increases his speed and strength at the cost of some of his life. As seen above, it sets his speed quite high.

So overall, Kanda is another very balanced fighter that combines speed and power for a dangerous combination but it is in Sangeshiki mode that he truly shines as he is able to move so fast that the opponent can’t even see him move nor notice when he attacks.

It is now the turn of my favorite exorcist, Lavi. Compared to Kanda and Allen, if one was to look at Lavi, he would not be so impressive. He does not have that many impressive fighting feats nor speed or strength. But what makes him a formidable opponent is his Innocence and its abilities, hence why Lavi would be classified as an ability-type fighter, one that heavily relies on the abilities of themselves or equipment to fight at 100%. Now, let’s examine his strong point, his Innocence.



His Innocence:

-In its base form, it can grow or extend it just by saying grow or extend. It has shown great power by being able to bust buildings with ease.

Durability: He has not shown the durability of Kanda’s level or even Arystar’s but he has shown he can take quite a few punches.

Overall, Lavi’s true strength lies solely on his Innocence, and what makes him a powerful opponent. As of now, Lavi is fighting Road Kamelot so this will get updated as soon as we see more of him.

Ah, Lenalee, Lenalee-chan. The official speedster of the DGMverse, Lenalee is probably the fastest character in DGM as of this moment since she is the only one who has a canon limit on her speed. What makes her so fast you say? It’s her Innocence, Dark Boots. Dark Boots gives her the ability to move at high speed, boosts her leg power considerably and also enables her to jump extremely high. Thus, she is a very agile and fast fighter not to be underestimated. Now, let’s examine her abilities

It is unknown what it does other than maybe giving her boots a power boost.

Durability: Lenalee is quite durable as she has been able to take a vicious beating at the hand of Eshi and still survived quite long enough to beat it.

Overall, Lenalee is a strong fighter thanks to her dark boots. With her high jumping power, agility and superhuman speed, she can be quite the formidable fighter.

Next will be Arystar Krory, and then the Noahs.

I would say speed is pretty grounded actually since Lenalee was clearly shown to be able to break the speed of sound and the mangaka made a point of showing this. Thus, unless this is shown again, we can assume the character is not in fact moving faster than the speed of sound. Also I would say that the destructive capabilities of DGM characters are above what you purport them as. I would say in strength or destructive capability they might even surpass much of what has been shown in Bleach or One Piece.

Here's Arystar Crowley:

Our next exorcist is Crow-chan! I mean Arystar Krory! This vampiric exorcist may act awkward when not in battle but once he fights, he becomes ruthless and dangerous opponent to battle against as he has proven on numerous occasions. What makes him so tough is his insane durability and also power and speed, and his steel teeth. Now, let’s go more in-depth.


Innocence:

Arystar’s Innocence makes him almost like a vampire, except that he is a vampire for Akumas. What I mean is that as soon as he sucks on the blood of an Akuma, his strength and speed increases dramatically, and he thus exterminates the Akuma by sucking them dry.

Physical abilities:

Speed: In his vampire mode, his speed is very impressive, being able to disappear and reappear in an instant. Consider this:

This is Lavi and Allen blocking the bullets from akuma guns(For the sake of this thread, we will assume that the author has modeled these specific guns after 19th century guns, the late ones like a Colt Single Army or semi-automatic which have a muzzle velocity of 800 to 900 ft/s (240 to 270 m/s), and also a machine gun like a Vickers machine gun which had 400 to 600 round/min rate of fire.

Yet, neither Lavi nor Allen could even see him move.

The man was withered down and spiked and he still was able to come out on top in both his fights. Just amazing.


Crimson Mode:

This is newest ability as of the recent arc and an ability that has amazing potential. When Crowley was trapped in a spiked coffin by Jasedibi, he was able to throw away his body and use the innocence in his body to escape but by doing so, he turned into a blood version of himself and gained even more power.

So, as of right now, we know that Crimson Crowley is a stronger version of Crowley that cannot be hurt physically and can even split into two.


Overall, Crowley is just amazing fighter and probably the second strongest after Allen. With his amazing strength, speed, insane durability and his new crimson form, Crowley is not a vampire that one should underestimate.

Alright, the moment everyone has been waiting for: The Noahs.

I am going to first start with a small introduction and then list who the Noahs are and their abilities.


Info: The Noahs are a family of superhumans that work alongside the Earl and are also known as the sacrificial lambs for the ark. Each have their white and black side, with the black side usually the more violent one, and so far, each have shown ridiculous powers that make them very powerful. Even though there might be more, there are four Noahs known so far in the story, and they are: Skin Boric, Jasedro and Debit (Jasedibi), Tykki Mikk, and Road Kamelot. For today, we will just highlight Skin Boric.

Skin Boric:

The Noah that represents the "hatred" of the Earl, Skin has great strength and durability in his only fight against Kanda. In that fight, Skin reveal his golem-like real form, and also the ability to generate and manipulate very powerful lightning. He is blessed with a body with an amazing resistance and strength. If the enemy is strong enough to wound him, it will get an electrical shock due to the fact Skin's body is full of electricity. Using his lightning ability, he can use the techniques:

Lightning: A very large electrical discharge is shoot by his mouth to hit the enemy;

Divine Punishment: Having his attacks blocked or getting hit, Skin's energy will flow into the enemy's body slowly. When the energy is strong enough, it will become chains that connect the two (Skin and the opponent). The chains will restrain the enemy's movements and, with the Divine Punishment technique, give strong electrical discharges directly into the inside of the enemy's body.

2. Jasedibi (Jasdero and Debit)

This Noah is a very strange one, and the reason for that is that it is actually two twins that form together to create this Noah, which they claim is the strongest body imagined.

What makes this Noah so dangerous and near broken is the ability called Materialization. Jasedibi has the ability to materialize anything it/they imagined (at first, it is through their guns for the twins). In its only fight in the recent arc, it has shown these techniques:

* Blue Bomb (青ボム): Materializes bullets that will freeze anything they hit
* Red Bomb (赤ボム): Their bullets create a fiery explosion
* White Bomb (白ボム): Destroys anything in its path
* Purple Bomb (紫ボム): "Deceiving Spectacles"; covers the eyes of the enemies with paint and traps them in an illusory reality.
* Green Bomb (緑ボム): A person is trapped in a bubble filled with slime.
* Jasdebi's Hate (ジャスデビの怨念): In hatred, they materialize a monster that seems to be made of numerous dead human bodies. The monster moves according to Jasdebi's will.
* "The Earl, from a time where he was laughing but was actually really pissed." (笑ってる×けど×実はすっげー怒ってる時の×千年公): They materialize an illusion of the Earl that is derived from a past memory. (BTW, the Earl is a country-level threat in his base form as he was able to get rid of Edo in one swoop)

Now, in the middle of their fight, the twins shot each other and created Jasedibi, its true form and strongest body imagined as mentioned above. Jasedibi possess speed, power, and uses hair as a weapon:

3. Tyki Mikk

Probably the most popular and most anticipated of the Noahs, Tykki is very broken and powerful, which is he as been rumored to be the strongest out of the Noahs and for good reasons, especially in part to his "choice" ability.

Choice:

This is without a doubt what makes Tyki one of the most broken characters ever in a shonen. This ability allows Tyki to basically choose what touches or what does not touch him and basically what he can touch and cannot touch and what is worse is that this ability is near instantaneous and so far, he always has the choice of nothing touching him always on. (Credit goes to Taxman for explaining Tyki's ability)

Here, he was physically struck, but the reason why was because Allen used his innocence (his arm is his innocence) to hit Tyki.

Thus, Tyki can choose whatever he wants to touch and cannot be hurt by physically by anything other than Innocence or possibly by a psychic (OBD-wise)

Unless one of these requirements are fulfilled, Tyki cannot be hurt at all.

4. Road Kamelot

The last (for now) but cutest of them all, it is now time for Road Kamelot, the Noah that represents the dreams of the Noahs and for excellent reasons.

As recently explained in her fight against Lavi in the last few chapters, she has the ability of airspace. Basically, she can travel to an alternate dimension through a door at her will, thus being able to connect the real world to her world

But what makes this ability even more insane is that in that alternate dimension, she can give birth to any dream she wants.

In this particular dream, she was able to creat a copy of Lavi, and also because of her dream, Lavi's innocence crumbled as she specifically stated that Lavi is not here with his innocence.

Thus, whatever happens she wants to happen in her dream happens. Thus, think of it as a Tsukiyomi in which Road can dream anything she wants and its for real and you can actually die and it is its own world connected to the real world.

She has also shown insane durability as she was able to bypass a barrier and get burned and still able to regenerate and walk like nothing ever happened.

We were told of the two worlds since the beginning without much details but a general description. It's only fitting the main cast venture into both and find out the truth. What's not a dry spell for you? Kishi killing off one of the biggest villain in an instant to hype up Sasuke? Then have him collect his friends in a bunch of boring and repetitive chapters? If anything, the 9th Espada proved to be a much bigger surprise than anything we've seen in Naruto in a while.

When a manga that relies heavily on style does not produce style it does rather poorly. Since Kubo has not developed characters or the plot in any meaningful manner, it's not a surprise that Bleach needs style to be entertaining. And that has been severely lacking since Chad was punked by Noitora.

The ironic thing of course is that despite your attempts to downplay my success in the OBD, in the time that I've been here, One Piece has gone from even battles with Narutoverse to dominating Narutoverse, as well as fighting evenly with HxH or Bleach.

Alright, ladies and gentleman. The last part (for now) of this analysis are the Akumas, the other type of villains.

Akuma are created through the mixture of machine, soul, and despair. When a loved one has died and the living still mourn for them, the Earl of Millennium appears at their side. He asks for their cooperation to bring back the soul of their loved one and place it in a special mechanical body (魔導式ボディ) that the Earl had created. It's only once this is done that the mourners realize their terrible mistake. Once they bring back their loved ones by yelling out their name in front of the mechanical body, the Earl then orders the mechanical body to 'wear' their resurrector's skin by killing them. The soul inside of the Akuma has no freedom whatsoever, and is doomed to follow the Millennium Earl's orders for all eternity. The Akuma are really soldiers in a war for Innocence against the Exorcists. They hide in the human world by taking over a human's body. Only Allen can distinguish between who is Akuma and who is human with the power of his cursed left eye.

There are several levels of Akuma seen thus far in the series.

Level 0 is the akuma right after being created. It is only the metal skeleton. The human soul is the dominate personality, but it is still bound to the Earl's control. The ends of the arms varies from akuma to akuma. The separate 'bones' are not connected in any way, but rather hover near where they would be connected. No mater how inhuman an akuma becomes upon reaching level 2, the level 0 form remains as its skeleton.

Level 1 consists of a floating ball shape creature with dozens of gun barrels protruding from it that fire enlarged 5.56 x 45 mm NATO-like rounds. The bullets made of the blood of the Akuma is deadly to the human flesh, leaving black star marks, cracking and corroding the human's body. Only those with Innocence like Allen Walker and Arystar Krory can heal the virus ,sucking the virus out with his teeth (for Allen his Innocence just cures him of the akuma poison)(also Krory can suck the virus out of other humans that were hit by an akuma blood bullet), from these bullets. The souls inside a level 1 Akuma has the body and cloths of their original form, however, their face is rather distorted and there is a chain around their neck. After murdering a large amount of people, it can evolve to Level 2.

Level 1.5, not an actual level per say, is more of a mid-way point for a level 1 Akuma. The only difference is that the Akuma gets rounder and more spherical, with the ends of the barrels on the surface. Their bullets can also penetrate barriers that normal level 1 Akuma bullets cant.

* Level 2 produces a dramatic change. They develop a unique ability and a sense of self. Level 2 Akuma are capable of intelligent thought and are largely independent, though they still maintain unquestionable loyalty to the Millennium Earl and the family of Noah. The souls of a Level 2 Akuma seem to become more deteriorated. The souls inside of these Akuma can't seem to be identified at all and are in a fetal position wrapped from head to toe in bandages. Level 2 Akuma come in all shapes and sizes (some have even appeared simply as a gas, fire, a demonic court jester, even a playing card) and they have no common appearance. They also have different powers such as copying a person's appearance (mirror image), emitting "ice fire" which hurts worse than normal fire, creating blades of air, emitting destructive sound waves, and creating bubbles that absorb water from everything they touch. After murdering enough people, it can evolve to Level 3.

* Level 3 brings perhaps the most terrifying changes of any previous stage. Regardless of their appearance in Level 2, all level 3 Akuma become bipedal, roughly 8 to 9 feet tall, sharp jagged teeth, and wear what looks like medieval armor that covers most of their bodies. In addition to this, they receive a massive power boost. A level 3 Akuma is easily capable of standing up to multiple exorcists in combat and usually has an extremely powerful ability in addition to its greatly improved strength and speed. The first Level 3 Akuma encountered in the series was only destroyed after a fight that almost cost Lenalee her life and forced her Innocence to take drastic measures, for a shocking revelation. According to Cross' modded Akuma, there are plenty of Akuma above Level 3 in Japan.

Eliade:

A level 2 Akuma that serves The Earl of Millennium. The sacrifice used to make her was a beautiful woman so that was the form she assumed as a human. Eliade believed that this was the reason why, after recovering her intellect when she evolved into a level 2 Akuma, she became obsessed with beauty and shopping. Although her beauty let her become a popular woman, her Akuma nature always made her feel hungry and causing her to show her ugly self. Even so, she felt incomplete and wanted something that, as an Akuma, she believed was impossible for her. After that, she met Krory and the two began a complex relationship. She was later killed by Arystar Krory after he discovered her that she was an Akuma. Eliade could produce bubbles that absorb all the water inside the victim's body in an instant.


Eishi:

A level three Akuma encountered by Lenalee and her team on the way to Edo. Eshi had the ability to manipulate gravity, along with the superhuman strength and agility granted to level three Akuma. Before becoming an Akuma, Eshi was a painter, shown by the way he starts every sentence he makes with "Title" as though he's naming a painting. Lenalee's battle with Eshi almost cost her her life.

Thread:

A level 3 akuma that fought Allen while Eshi was fighting Lenalee. Like Eshi, he was a level 3 akuma. He was hand-chosen by Tyki Mikk to use Road's door to enter the Asia Branch to assassinate Allen, and therefore was accompanied by a Tease. He was able to break in, but was caged in the large room where Allen had trained. In order to keep Thread from going too berserk, Fou took the image of Allen and trapped herself in the room with it. When Allen got in, Fou was nearly dead. He was destroyed by Allen, but he didn't care because he was too "happy". He was the one to reveal the Noahs' whereabouts, and was the first akuma to be destroyed by Allen's gamma form. He had the ability to send energy "threads" from cylinders on his arms into his enemies and tear their atomic structure apart.
