Heres an idea I had for a Naruto storyline. I guess this fits under the "fanfiction" label so help me god. I thought it would be a cool darker direction for the series to go.
Its in the future. 10 or 15 years. Sasuke has come back from Orochimaru and is now the Hokage of konoha. Naruto has become a missing nin and actually in hiding in the forests of Fire Country. The back story would be that after naruto leaves to save sasuke, and does so, sasuke sets up a conspiracy to make himself look like the hero. Upon returning to the village, he is greeted with warm welcomes. Naruto is still the outsider even then he is actually the hero. Sakura is still in love with sasuke and they start to develop a relationship. As the years pass naruto becomes more and more withdrawn as sasuke quickly rises up the ranks of the village. He later marries Sakura. Naruto watches with painful sadness but does nothing, thinking of his two friends and their need to be happy. Naruto finds it too hard to take seeing sasuke and sakura being together and leaves the village. What is unknown to Naruto, is that sasuke has set up a place to make naruto miserable by taking everything he wants. The title of Hokage and his love Sakura. Sakura becomes Hokage at the young age of 30/25(?). He excels in all areas of ninjustu, thanks to the cursed seal that he still controls. Sasuke wants to hurt naruto becuase he killed(?) orochimaru and destroyed the only hope he had of defeating his brother Itachi. To get his Mangekyou sharingan, he has to kill his best friend, Naruto. Naruto himself has not been idle however, honing his skills in the remote forests of the country of fire. Unbeknownst to the other villagers, he and Sasuke have set up a pact that no one is to enter his territory, which is a vast expanse of forest next to a mountain. His emotions have had many years to stew and have twisted his mind. He believes that the people of Konoha are his enemies and all want to hurt him. He believe that sakura hurt him intentionally and he feels betrayed over all. Too hurt to be vengeful, he lives his life in quiet solitude, doing the only thing he takes comfort in, training. The actual story line would be Narutos path down the trail of deceit that sasuke has constructed. He will see the players behind the curtains (akatsuki?) and start to figure things out.
