I've noticed that a great deal of us Gundam fans aside from looking for kiss ass fighting and sweet gundams also value good character development. I just wanted to ask which character, regardless of series do you feel developed the most or at least in a manner that really made the character better. Better doesn't imply skillwise although it could.

I just wanted to know your thoughts and character choices.

Cheers

I think Judou from Gundam ZZ developed in the best way of any main character so far. He developed from a very playful but talanted young boy to a very dedicated and serious person. But eventhough he developed like that, he still had that kindness left in him.

Wow, Mindless, that's definitely a great choice.

I'm going to use Yzak from Gundam Seed as mine. He starts off as the brash hotheaded 'ace pilot'. But after a few key events, mainly Nicol and Dearka. He really grows up. He's still the hothead but he realises that what he did in the past wasn't exactly the best way to approach things. He also shows a side of actual emotion (Nicol incident, Dearka and Cagali saving). I liked him from the beginning of the series and he just got better and better as time went on.

But Judou is definitely a great show of character development.

Ya, Judou and Kira both grown much more mature without their battles. Both of them only cared about themselves - Judou just want to make money for survival and Kira just want to live in a peaceful place. As the got involved in the war, they actually want to make a difference in this world because they have the power to do so. ^^

However, in terms of character development.. I usually get attached to more lonely characters like puru, fray, haku.. etc.. and see how they fight through the sadness..

I am quite lonely myself.. the pain ><

haku wasn't lonely, he had Zabuza just for himself :wink

I think Amuro's development was very interesting.

He went from a brat in 0079 to a valuable asset in Z to a great leader in Char's counterattack.

*points up*

Amuro Ray's character... yes, that's what also I had in mind. Being the whiny jerk that he was in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, his leadership qualities and being a kick-ass pilot in Char's Counterattack is something worth noticing in Amuro's character.

I have a knife waiting for anyone who says Gundam Wing... the characters there were...ugh.

I have to say G Gundam, it's always been a favorite of mine.

G Gundam? You have got to be kidding. Amuro Rey has quite a character development. :P

G-Gundam! Nice one.

Char, Char, Char! Watching him flow from Zeon ace to psychopathic madman was excellent; picking out all the signs of what was to come in CCA in Zeta is great. He develops perfectly, probably some of the best development I've seen.

Dearka and Yzak are worth a mention too, as well as all the characters from 0079 that made it into Zeta. Look at Kai! Almost completely different.

Yeah, aside from Amuro that I mentioned earlier...

...no doubt about it, Char is the best Gundam anti-hero/masked man ever! Move aside, Zechs, Schwartz, Rau and Neo! :D

Well, that the only character in Gundam Wing that was acting all normal, in my opinion was Duo Maxwell.

Heero was this emotionless psychopath, Trowa was another Heero-ish character, and was silent for almost of the series, Quattre was like a very helpless dude who needs to be escorted by his Maganac Corps all the time, and don't get me started on Wufei...

In short, IMO, Gundam Wing fails character development wise, but the mecha action does not.
