Deidara refers to Sasori as "Lord", and Sasori's introduction demonstrates that he's so powerful that he doesn't even singlehandedly murder all of Sunagakure's defences, he has his subordinate do it for him (I rate Yuura as at the very least a high jounin, and yet he's completely subservient to Sasori — Deidara's "subservience" might just be joking around, but Yuura's isn't).

Plus, it seems to be suggested that Deidara is going to be inferior to Sasori in combat skill. Whatever abilities Sasori has, I think we're going to discover that he's stronger than Deidara. I think Deidara was sent to defeat Sabaku no Gaara because that was the jinchuuriki he was assigned to, and so Sasori was providing a little help since he was from that village. There's the question of whether or not Sasori could fly (Deidara and Gaara are almost exclusive with this ability so far), but I don't think Akatsuki even knew that Gaara could fly… hmm. If Gaara was to defeat Sasori it would be on the basis of a tactical advantage. In overall skill, I think Sasori outstrips Gaara.

This is a tough one because Sasori can control the 1st Kazekage's Iron Sand ability so it would literally be Sand Vs. Sand. If it really got down to it though, I would have to say Sasori.

Actually, Gaara. Sasori does not posses the same strategic mind as Deidara did, also Gaara has a huge advantage, that being he is able to fly. The only thing he might have problem with is the iron sand. But Partial shukaku > 3rd kazekage.

I'd honestly have to say Gaara. Yes it is true Sasori can CONTROl the 1st Kazekage's iron sand jutsu, but Gaara can manipulate any sand around him, including the iron sand that Sasori neglects to use. Also if Gaara releases his demon, Sasori is screwed.

I don't think so. Sasori himself can't make a hole in Gaara's sand defense, unless his puppets is exploding too. But explosion is not enough to destroy Gaara's defense, even the most destructive bomb of of Deidara's doesn't have an effect on Gaara's sand...

If sasori uses the water scroll+the 3rd he will win.

Otherwise Gaara is possibly one of the few who actually CAN take him because is ability almost is perfect against Sasori. He can't be scratched.

Iron Sand supposedly strongest attack Suna has ever produced. Even though Gaara's defenses are top notch, he can't afford one scratch even with his sand armor and he doesnt have antidotes laying arround. Those 100 puppets would definately mess him up.

Hmmm...Quite a hard choice, Gaara and Sasori are both very strong...Well after thinking for awhile I personally think Sasori might be the winner, remember this also depends in the battlefield as Gaara can win in a desert pretty easily a Sand Coffin + Possesed Mode Gaara (not shukaku) will have a higher chance of winning, but again, thats just my opinion... :nod

That will pierce straight through Gaara's automatic sand shield and through his sand armor. The only thing Gaara can do to stop that attack is with his Supreme Absolute Defense: Shield of Shukaku. And if Gaara uses that, Sasori will simply send another spike of Iron Sand at him from another direction.

I'm going to assume though that Sasori wouldn't have been as good an opponent for Gaara as Deidara was though....otherwise it probably would have been Sasori who fought him instead of Deidara and Deidara would have stayed waiting.

So perhaps Gaara might have a better chance against Sasori. I still doubt that he would beat Sasori though.

Sasori could be potent with his technique: iron sand, and a huge spam of puppets which includes the 3rd Kazekage. But I can see Gaara defending rather well with his ultimate sand defense and use offensive sand-based jutsu such as Sabaku Kyuu. Still, in terms of overall skill and experience, Sasori could outmaneuver Gaara.
