Like the last one.

With the overwhleming amount of spoiling in the dub section. I decided to open this thread where manga readers and sub watchers and can discuss the dub episodes and future episodes with the spoiling and all.

Though, keep in mind that HoU rules still apply and manga spoilers that haven't appeared in the anime should be in spoiler tags and to adress that the spoiler in the title like "Manga Spoiler - Do not read if anime only watcher or manga reader who hasn't passed [insert chapter]"


This thread isn't for flaming or whining about the dub. Complaints should be in the complaint thread in the Dub section. Constructive criticism is allowed, like comparing names of episodes, chapters, voice actors, jutsu names and other things relative to these are allowed.

This thread will be monitored daily, so spam will not be tolerated and warnings will be given out without hesitation.

The Naruto Dub is one of the best dubs around. The voice acting is usually accurate and talented, and they don't go over the top with the censoring.

I don't get what you mean by "the talking part is not cool." So, basically you don't like any of it? Because they talk most of the time.

And I don't know what you mean by skipping parts. They never skip parts. They may have cut out one or two short clips from a few of the earlier episodes (like the Naruto Sasuke kissing scene), but all the later episodes are pretty much unedited.

Oh and while I liked most voices, Naruto and Sakura need to improve. I like the "low" amount of cuts(WHY CUT OUT THE KISS!!!!!!!) and watch it so I feel a little less guilty watching it subbed.

Hard to read, but I think I understand what you're saying. I don't know how far you've watched, but at about episodes 27 and beyond, "Believe it" is almost nonexistant. And how exactly do you think that Naruto and Sakura have to improve? Kate Higgins (Sakura) is one of the best VAs on the show in terms of emotion.

I hear that alot about my writing, it is just at times Sakura's voice is almost a little too emotional. It goes into the whole over ughing from DBZ.

I was actually using the lack of believe its to defend the dub till last episode where they used him saying it as a dramatic highpoint. It is sad that they use such a lame line for drama.

omg y do ppl hate the dubbed so much its almost the same as the japanese version sometimes i see that they cut out some stuff but remember this is cartoon network there not gonna show blood and gore to 7yr olds but that kinda makes me mad too because we have to miss some good parts because nobody looks at the tv ratings lol still also about the talking i think they do that because they want to inform ppl about whats going on and stuff instead of just looking at some dude and start fighting and no one knows y if they just start watching

Woa. No offense, dude, but it's called a period. Please use it.

You talk about them cutting out parts, and maybe they may have cut out some parts toward the begining (small parts here and there, less than a second, and not including the Sasuke/Naruto kiss scene), but there are hardly any cuts or edits made anymore. And they do show blood, they just edit the it so that there isn't as much. Hardly noticable, in my opinion.

All is forgiven they put Go on the op, and Naruto's VA did a decent job with the dramatics this episode. No Believe, a plus. But the sand spirit sounds weird. On a side note, they dub the pig I will be mad.

To be honest, it's a little hard trying to fit Skip's voice with Hoshigake Kisame. The raspy voice bit back in 29 didn't catch my attention, and Skip loves his role as Maito Gai all ready.

I sure hope she gets chosen for Tsunade. I can't think of too many female VA's that would pull that off.

I myself would enjoy Ms. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (the current director of the dub) to voice Tsunade. I'm just not sure if she'ld be allowed to do both Kurenai and Tsunade.

Yeah, but Sam Regal's Shino sounded a lot like Zaku. Skip's low evil voice sounds a hell of a lot different than his Guy voice, so I wouldn't really view that as a problem.

It'll most likely end up being someone else though.

I think the voices are just as good as the japanese. Kakashi and Sasuke sound closer to their age in the dub.

I think beleive it is just annoying at dattebayo, and after watching both, he says dattebayo more often and no one complains. People sterotypically think dub=bad because it's not in it's original format, so they think beleive it=bad.
Cartoon network can't exactly omit subliminal messages for people to learn japanese immediately and people want to listen not read.

I have nothing good to say about the dub, but I will say one nice thing about Sasuke's voice...it is the same as Haseo's from .hack//gu

I actually like the dub. Its something I can undetstand without having to read subs. The cuts aren't that bad, not nearly as bad as germany or some other countries.

I actually like the voice actors in the dub. They've come along way from the beginning of the series. Hates people that just don't like the dub for one reason or another. Can they give any other reasons for not liking it besdies the voice or cuts? Cause its not all that bad..

Sometimes I think that a lot of anime fans just have a knee-jerk dislike for any dub versus the original seiyu. I think it might be attributed either to normal familiarity, they've heard the japanese voices for so long, and even if they don't quite understand what they are saying, are just used to hearing them as the voices of their characters or out of a possible elitist fanboyism, sort of a "I listen to the "real" voices none of that translated crap!"

I mean sure, I've seen some pretty badly done dubs in my day, bad translations and even worse voice work, but as far as Naruto goes, I think it's actually pretty good.

Personally, I think Naruto's voice is perfect, it's perfectly hits his goofy/playful/rebellious nature, Sakura's, Rock's, Guy's, and Shino's are dead on too imho. Hinata's an easy one, just pick the usual soft shy girl voice, and I think most everyone else's voices at least work if not totally fit. I mean, the dub isn't an attempt to find english voice copies of the japanese performers, it's to find english voices appropriate to the character they play.

And as for Sasuke sounding too old or whatever, it's not like you can just go out and find a bunch of real 13 yos or whatever to do the voices. This isn't pokemon, sure it's appealing to the younger set, but some of the stories are a bit too intense to expect a bunch of kids voices to get it done, I mean hell, even the original seiyu are all older in age than the characters and unlike in Japan, having a girl do a guys voice rarely would work in english to our ears.

Yea, some of the cuts are annoying, but it's the US, censoring is to be expected unfortunately, at least it wasn't butchered totally.

All in all I think the dub is fine, not perfect of course, but far from what some complainers make it out to be.

How far have you watched? The blood edits are almost completely unnoticable later on in the series, as are any edits.

I really only have problems with Naruto's voice in the dub, and Shukaku's. They did the best with Gaara and Gamakichi.

Blum's already done Zabuza and Orochimaru, I doubt that he'll be getting another role like that.

I somehow feel that Skip (Gai's VA) would make a great Kisame for some reason, but I doubt that'll happen, since they fight eachother a few times throughout the series.

I say this for a couple of reasons.
1. Blum would make a good Kisame

Just worked on the new Naruto game. Did a ridiculous new character. Let's see if you can pick this one out!!
-The game seems to have been done with the original script still intact, then changed in the end.
a.Neji refers to the time Naruto beat him, but the game was not only released before the Chunin finals, but the game is supposed to take place before the finals.
b. Jiraiya is worried about Naruto being at the Suna castle because of Akatsuki in the original, yet just says he is worried. This scene is left in, but he seems conserned for no reason in this game

Because everyone is getting confused. Skip did the original voice for Itachi way back when but it was always intended that it would go to a different actor later. Crispin did Itachi's voice in Ultimate Ninja and as Emery said it's official that Crispin is going to do his voice in the series from here on in.


Itachi's not far off now it seems. If you're still providing the voice for him, these next few weeks are going to be a killer of a wait.

Thanks! I only filled in for a couple of episode as Itachi. Crispin Freeman is now playing the role and quite well I might add. I dat in the session while he was recording and he sounded great! When does he not though?

I hated it at first. I love it now.

Hated is the wrong word really, I thought a lot of the voices were inappropriate for their characters at first, particularly Naruto's (One of the reasons I liked the Bleach Dub so much is because Ichigo's voice is almost perfect). Now even his voice has grown on me. One of the best Dub's around in my opinion... now if only they would leave it completely unedited I'd be happy as a clam.

Ninja council 4 3 will tell us. Itachi's Tsukuyomi is in that. If the character gets strapped to a board, we will know it will be edited in Naruto Clash of Ninja MVZ

It will be left unaltered in Ultimate Ninja 2 though. NamcoBandai is cool like that

Kisame's first line in episode 80 had me worried, he sounded like he was speaking with a slight British accent but It's fine. Pretty similar to the original. Itachi is actually very good, has the same air of nonchalance to it.

Terrible. Granted I haven't heard enough of the dubbed versions to hear all the voices (simply because I can't stomach listening to Naruto's voice in English), most of what I heard were bad. Naruto, obviously. I literally cringe when I hear his voice. It doesn't sound natural, why couldn't they get a 12 or even a 14 year old to do the voice? I'm pro child-labor if that means the end of bastardizing anime when translating it to English. It is by far the worst I've ever heard in any series, and as the main character of an anime that is definitely not a good thing.

Sasuke as previously mentioned by others sounds too old. Kakashi sounds way cooler in Japanese. I haven't heard Lee or Gai, but I doubt their English counterparts could compete with the awesomeness of their original Japanese. Shino sounds like he's derranged. Kisame was ok, but not great. Itachi's voice is stock, and when I hear him I'm not impressed. He doesn't strike me as a powerful antagonist, just another cliche mysterious opponent. This is why I don't like having one person do 2 or 3 voices in the same anime, it takes away the uniqueness of each character even if the voices are done slightly different.

I will always prefer the Japanese to the English. It sounds better, more fluid, intended for a more adult audience rather than 10 year olds, and as usual the original is usually the best. When you translate anything into another language, whether it be a novel or an anime you lose part of it. This is why I don't like having one person do 2 or 3 voices in the same anime, it takes away the uniqueness of each character even if the voices are done slightly different.

I will always prefer the Japanese to the English. It sounds better, more fluid, intended for a more adult audience rather than 10 year olds, and as usual the original is usually the best. When you translate anything into another language, whether it be a novel or an anime you lose part of it. I think the combination of words to lips is harder to do then an exact translation. Infact it's impossible to match the dub exactly with the movement of the mouth words and that; they could edit but it'd be way too much butchering...


I think anyone who complains about the dub and can't understand the Japanese yet believes the Japanese voices are better are just following a stereotype; you cannot rate a voice actor of another language if you don't know the language, or haven't lived in the culture they have come from; how can you really compare just on knowledge, its an experience thing.

But as for dub; the dub voice sounds alot like the japanese voice for alot of them, I think they matched the characters well. O_O

@ other people: well, they try to keep the English voices close to the Japanese voices, to keep the fans (and possibly the writer) happy. Some of the english voices dont really match some of the characters, but be happy that it isnt something completely off :amuse

Basically, all I did was go to youtube and listen to all the characters voices in different episodes... my ears were hurting for hours, honestly. I couldn't take it -_-; I don't like the dub at all, nor do I like the little "Believe It!" line.

One line that made me giggle, though, was when Shikamaru and Naruto find Gaara in the room with Lee and in the dub Shikamaru says "That's one cool customer" XD my friend and I make fun of that to this day!

With Shonen Jump currenlty publishing three volumes of Naruto per month,they should hit chapter 245,where part two begins come this December. (I think) At least this is what I've heard. But,unless VIZ skips the fillers,or starts to air a lot more episodes,we will -not- see a dub of Naruto Shippuuden next year. It has not been confirmed if VIZ will skip the fillers,and just because the English manga will hit chapter 245 before the fillers in the anime have arrived,has nothing to do with VIZ's job to dub every episode of the anime.

The Naruto dub ain't that bad, but here are the few things i don't like about it:

Sometimes when they're calling Tsunade (SUE-NA-DAY) the pronuce it as if it was spelt Toonade (TOO-NA-DAY) that really annoyes the hell outta me.

They fucked up Itachi's famous line (''Foolish little brother, if you wish to kill me, hate me, detest me, and survive in an unsightly way. Run, run and cling to life and then someday when you have the same eyes that i do, come before me")

i hate the way they spelt Maito Gai's name ("Might guy")

oh and they chose the gayest voice for orochimaru (although in the japanese verson he speaks with a very formal female tone to make him seem more sinister. so i guess it can't be helped)

i hate the fact that Gaara sound like he's friggin 30 years old and he's 12 when's first introduced in the story.

I've been watching the subbed version for years and I know there were filler episodes sprinkled throughout the series before the horrible year plus of fillers before the time skip. So I was wondering since my memory is hazy and I'm to lazy to go dig out my naruto dvd's, which fillers have been skipped in the American dub so far. I know about the one cartoon network showed as a special about a month ago but have there been any others. Do you think they will go straight to the Rescue sasuke arc or go into the filler with the race and then the saga.

Cartoon Network has skipped no Naruto fillers,and they aren't "sprinkeled thoughout the series" as you just said. There was one filler where Konohamaru and his buddies interviewed Naruto,Sakura and Sasuke before they entered the Forest of Death,and there was some sorta recap special... But,other then some small filler elements added to the storyline,there isn't much filler until after the Tsunade arc,Naruto,Jeraiya,Tsuande,Shizune and her pig go to the hot springs. Then there is this filler where Naruto,Sakura and Sasuke gaurd someone in a race or something. Then afterwards,there is pretty much no filler until episode 136. BTW,the U.S broadcast is at episode 97 I beleive..

Well, the dub is almost exactly like the sub just speaking in a non-Japanese language. Don't know what dub you are watching.

The dub is aimed at children as opposed to teenagers i think. The language isnt as raw and emotional, i much prefer the translated text in the subtitled episodes because theyr not afraid to swear. When they dub something they have to change words and sentences to make the lip syncing tight which makes it lose its content.

I dont think the naruto dub is particularly good at all. The BECK dub is pretty decent though imo.

The Naruto Dub is one of the best dubs around. The voice acting is usually accurate and talented, and they don't go over the top with the censoring.

they may not got over the top with the censoring, but they still censor the funny parts like when Tsunade first met konohamaru. (PM me if u don't knot what i'm talkin about, i don't feel like explaining it right now) and i can just bet they're gonna block out when Naruto's pet grabs sakura chest (even though theres hardly anything there to grab, LOL) but other then that they do, do a pretty good job with the dub verson.

They have left in references to alcohol before, I remember a scene where the bridgebuilder guy from the zabuza arc was drinking alcohol , all they edited out was his blush, they'll do the same thing with drunk rock lee.

They had Jiraiya get drunk multiple times and hang out in whore houses in the dub. I doubt they will cut out a little thing like someone fighting while they are drunk especially since it's important to the story line. But if they do I'm just never going to watch the dub ever again because that was one of my favorite fights.

I hate pretty much all the voice actors for the dub except for a few such as Shikamaru and Rock Lee.

Naruto has been in good hands with Viz for two years now, and has grown a large amount of popularity in America. With episode 101 and the tea country filler arc coming near, I can't help but think about all of the pain we had to go through when Studio Perriot decided to go into filler after episode 135 for a whole year. I'm concern that if Viz does decide to dub the year long filler episodes, it might affect the popularity of Naruto in English speaking countries. Not only did we have to deal with bad animation and a bad storyline, but we had to hear Naruto weep over "that person" in every filler episode.

Now I don't mind if Viz wants to dub maybe one arc along with a few other side episodes from that period of filler, but almost everything from that year long filler was just bad, I mean horrible.

So what's your opinion? Should Viz dub the year long filler after episode 135?

I'm absolutely positive Viz will dub the 85 episodes of filler (yeah, it's more than just a year).

They dubbed 26 for Christ's sake. They're trying to crank as much as they can out of this series, and I'm pretty sure they want to be as accurate as possible. It's not so bad, though, since Shippuden is nothing special :/

I think this is a moot point - I believe it's going to happen. Naruto is one of the highest rated shows on CN. They're not going to skip the fillers. I don't foresee it happening.

By the way, don't ask the VA's. I cannot believe how many people are asking this question out of them. They simply don't know. Liam even said if they knew, they aren't permitted to say.

Not really, NS is on what, 26? The dubs on 101, fillers start 135 which means 34 more episodes which would mean NS would be on 60. Either way some fillers have to be dubbed and I think this was already discussed in Konoha TV, if not it really should be moved there.

I love the dub ^^ A lot of the subbies [[ *rolls eyes ]] who don't like the voice acting don't know anything. I think the voices match perfectly, considering the characters are 12 years old.

I actually think the dub is pretty good. I mean, I think the sub is better and I really hope they don't screw up any of the Akatsuki's voice or anyone else's in Naruto Shippuden, but I'm not going to bash the English version. Compared to the 4KIDS dubs of One Piece and Yu-gi-oh, the Naruto dub is gold.

They have small edits, but they actually keep blood in. They let Asuma smoke his cigarette. I don't know how they'll be able to handle Hidan since he's got such a foul mouth, but the little censors here and there haven't been enough to bother me that much.

Well I'm sure they'll show the filler. They will probably be required to by Viz. TV Tokyo didn't make the fillers just so Viz could skip over them and buy the main storyline episodes. They're going to get their money's worth for them.

Lets also not forget that Cartoon Network will probably also show Thanksgiving and Christmas specials during those weeks. :notrust

The fillers will not show. They are not considered to officially be apart of part one. Besides if they do show, just about every Naruto fan that watches CN will stop. Remember, ages change with time. It's best to get to Shippuden as fast as possible.

Edit: I wouldn't be too sure about CN showing two episodes a week for that long.

ok this is the truth about the dub vs. sub arguement basically you will like the version you see first, after hearing a characters voice your mind instantly matches that voice to that character thats why if you see a different version it just doesnt sound quite right.i personally like english dubs better than subs because i live in the u.s. so of course im not gonna want to watch anything in anything but my native language. as for naruto dub i think all the voice match almost perfectly except for shukkaku it doesnt sound right to me
