It's really rather hard to judge this match. Not a lot is known about the 2nd's actual skills, so we have to base off of title; Hokage. Itachi we see a little more of, but still really don't see everything he has to bring to the table. He beat Kakashi, but ran from Jiraiya even when with Kisame. It's hard to tell exactly how strong he is, but it's fair to say that he wouldn't easily be defeated, even by a kage.

Theres a lot of speculation involved, but I don't think it would be a completely one-sided match for either side.

Just kidding... I'm going to say (you guessed it) Itachi. Tsukuyomi+abnormal speed+Amaterasu+countless other genjutsu/ninjutsu techniques= death. But Itachi would know he was in a damned good fight. He would probably lose alot of chakra. But he can fight perfectly fine on water, and has at least one water technique of his own. It'd be a long battle, and an entertaining one but he would win all the same

Anything Nidaime can do, Itachi can just throw right back at him - if Kakashi can use Nidaime's 'amazing' jutsu, Itachi surely can too (he's already shown an ability to use Suitons).

In every other way, Itachi is superior. Genjutsu is a given; taijutsu is extremely likely considering he has the Sharingan and Nidaime was outmaneuvered by a 70-year-old, and Itachi likely has much more variety in ninjutsu.

I would go so far as to say that Itachi is at least a level above Nidaime.

nidaime is obviously a water type, and fire is most likely itachi's type, and water beats fire, so in that sense he would have him beat
the mangekyo is a wild card in all of that so it depends on nidaime's ability to combat it, id say probably nidaime

Nidaime is a Hokage-level ninja. Considering this, as well as his age and experience, his overall strength, stamina and chakra-level are probably superior to Itachi's, though his is probably decent. His "Darkness" genjutsu appeared to be quite strong as well, suggesting talent in this area. Itachi's genjutsu is probably superior, but it may not be as effective as on non-genjutsu users (with regards to Kurenai, was a new Jounin, and not necessarily the best Genjutsu user in the village). He was also known for giving Konoha it's strong military, so fighting and tactics probably come naturally to him. Nidaimes' primary talent, however, was in water jutsu. He was able todo advanced water attacks without a water source, and if neccesary even bring one to the battlefield. In all of Naruto, only one other ninja has been known to perform such feats, such a mastery of water Jutsu.

The problem is that ninja is Kisame, Itachi's partner, and apprently junior in Akatsuki. This means that Itachi has witnessed, and has intimate knowledge of, every one of Nidaime's best attacks, and has probably copied some with the Sharingan. As I have stated, Itachi probably has superior Genjutsu as well. This leaves Nidaime with superior strength and stamina, which Itachi's speed and Sharingan can probably deal with.

It might not be straightforward, and I'm sure Nidaime has-or can come up with- other tricks, but from what we've seen, Itachi should win.

OMG, talk about speculation. There is absolutely no way for me (or anyone else) to really tell who would win. Itachi is an extremely powerful and capable ninja, and he has the MS along with countless other copied ninjutsu and genjutsu, and the Nidaime is a Hokage with a mastery of water-based jutsu, being able to perform them even when there's no water in the area. However, we don't know what jutsus he can actually perform, and the same goes for Itachi. The Nidaime might have a jutsu that could allow him to fight Itachi without having to look in his eyes, and Itachi might be able to use water jutsu just as well as the Nidaime, but we just don't know. Thus, like all the other speculation threads, this battle fails.

I say Nidaime would win. The fact of the matter is that there were Uchihas back in the day when the 2nd was Hokage. I know that Itachi is of superior caliber to most Uchihas (maybe even the best ever, we dont know), but Nidaime probably is familiar with the sharingan's capabilities and would be able to find a way to counter it, if he had not already. There was a whole Uchiha clan back when he was Hokage and still he was considered the best ninja in all the village. I am not saying it would be an easy battle by any means, but the 2nd Hokage would definately win. The sharingan uses up alot of chakra, and I feel Nidaime would be able to out last Itachi. Itachi's only chance would be to use the MS, but I still dont think it would be enough. Nidaime is a beast people, the man can make water out of thin air.
