Being badass could be different for other people like wearing spandex to smoking cigarettes could be badass.

Who do I think is badass? Tied between Kakashi and Asuma.

Kimimaro and Zabuza are pretty badass as well.. Kimi took more hits than Naruto, and still got up, only dying because of sickness (whilst fighting through pure will, unable to control his body as well as normal). Zabuza because of his ownage as a child and at the end.

Time skip Sasuke is pretty badass too.. and Naruto actually can be at times as well (when his not giving up finally pays off).

All in all, a long list of badasses.

I wonder if Asuma was slightly based on wolverine though.. the beard, the smoking.. and the chakra blades are kind of like claws. Eh.. just speculation, but he compares well to another badass character :)

Sasuke Uchiha: He total bastard, a ego freak, and a kick ass shinobi. Had his whole goddamn family killed in cold blood by some toxic euro trash wannabe goth fag and drove him insane with vengance. He rocks as a character, as a Ninja, and a human being in general, he's ruthless to the core and always sets his sights high on what he wants no matter what the risk, he's his own man and no one tells him what to do. As much as he is hated for what he's become, he should be praised on what he's become. Plus Sakura still wants him in the sack, he's pimp.

Gaara of the Sand: He rocks the same reason Sasuke Rocks, he's insane crazy, muderous, and a monster. Vengence is his name and vengance is his game. Post Time Skip, he's a Don of the Sand Villlage, thats major wicked coolness. Still wished he still had Shukaku.


Kakashi Hatake:One of the best, one of the few ninja's that can actually be called a true ninja. He trained Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura to be an elite Shinobi force to be reckoned with. Plus he reads porn, when he should be getting the real thing instead of reading about it. He's like this Father figure Badass, with a laid back attitude thing goin on. Taught My favorite Naruto Character the Chidori and beat the shit out of Zabuza and Haku. Why can't him and Sasuke be the Main Characters?

The Sad truth is that Itachi holds the crown of badasses. It can't be denied, a badass who can waste his whole family, unscathed, without the Mangekyo Sharingan (he used it twice on Sasuke and it's fairly certain he only gets three uses of it a day) and didn't flinch. Tortures the one he let live at every opportunity. A true sociopath. And even though he's probably the most normal member of Akatsuki I don't think any of them can beat him. Sasuke in Part 2 has impressed me, I'll give him the credit. Godaime Kazekage Gaara definitely qualifies. Shino is a gangster of Legendary status and despite his low appearance rate he is if I'm not mistaken, Undefeated. Finally I nominate the Fourth. Sure he may be kind warm happy go lucky guy... but look at the look on his face when he put the Hiraishin no Jutsu on that first Iwagakure Ninja... Cold blooded. Fear the Fourth. Is their a poll anywhere, Itachi vs Yondaime, who is the greatest Ninja Konoha ever produced?

I had a thought. The text book definition of a badass is Samuel L. Jackson. Alternate definitions include Batman, Wolverine, and Chuck Norris. Now Gai, Lee, Tsunade, and Sakura are Chuck Norris class seeing as how their punches change the landscape (literally), and Asuma is like Wolverine with no temper (which may lower the badass quotient). But there are no Batmans or Sam Jackson level badasses. Quote scripture before you blast someone... nobody comes close. Sorry Hidan, but your cockiness eliminates your badass quotient entirely. If i had to narrow it down it would be between Itachi, Sasuke, and Shikamaru. I used to think Itachi is the most badass overall, but as of late i'm going to say Sasuke.

Why Itachi is one of the most badass

Itachi is uber powerful, his mangekyou sharingan(tsukuyomi, amaterasu) is all that and the guy was ANBU squad leader at 13, slaughtered his clan, obtained MS and he tortured kakashi for 72 hours with tsukuyomi :amuse also he makes it so that his brother is always a few steps behind and he can cast genjutsus that turn him into birds and stuff :amuse one of my most favourite scenes

As far as Chouji goes, Jiroubou was the only one he could possibly handle, as the others would've destroyed him. Kiba/Akamaru were a bad match for him, since he si ply bitchslapped Kiba during tsuga. Gatsuga may've been a different thing, but I don't see a clear victory. Shikamaru's chakra would've been insufficient to hold him for any significant period of time. He probably would've beaten Jiroubou, with a little time to analyze his style. Naruto's TKB never works, so that's out. However, he could've summoned Gamabunta, who would've destroyed Jiroubou. Not physically, of course, but with jutsu. Also, Rasengan > Jiroubou. Neji would've slaughtered him, though. 'Course, the only one of the Sound Five who might've been able to defeat him would be Tayuya, depending on which would override the other: jyuuken or the summons' jutsu. I'd bet on jyuuken, though. Lol, Neji > any member of the Sound Five! [s]Too bad CS2 Sasuke and KN1 Naruto would likely have been able to school him, though he'd at least have been able to put up a decent fight against them.

I agree with the Kiba/Akamaru thing, since it was a two-on-two fight.

The Neji/Kidoumaru fight was a great one because each was the perfect match for the other. No, that's not quite correct. Neji was the only one who could survive Kidoumaru's jutsu, but he was also at a disadvantage, insofar as his enemy was very calculating and a ranged master. I highly doubt that any of the other Sound ninja could have put up such a fight, coming to the point where Kidoumaru could've killed Neji if he were so inclined.

Fortunately, he underestimated his enemy. The thing that makes his underestimation believeable though, was that he was totally correct in his thinking. He had dominated Neji, and had ample time to insult him to his heart's content. There wasn't any way for Kidoumaru to determine that Neji had unlocked the ultimate powerup: the Will of Fire. Kidoumaru was a very cool character for me, since he showed far more common sense and analytical ability than anyone save Shikamaru. Man, I loved that fight. Fav. fight with Lee/Gaara, Lee/Kimimaro, VotE, KN/Haku, Neji/Naruto, and Shikamaru/Temari coming in after that one for fav. Part 1 fights.

The fight to which I've devoted so much time discussing is the reason why Neji's my fav. character. He got a double KO (always enjoyable) on a badass ninja who had several distinct advantages over him. He won (sorta) and uphill battle, which is very, very uncommon in this manga. Usually, the hero must be the perfect matchup in order to achieve victory on his own. Neji did his with no reinforcements or physical powerups. All he got was the pure determination only exhibited by Lee and Naruto prior to Neji's unlocking of it. Genius + Will of Fire > your mom. Her personality is tough and she can easily talk down a guy like Shikamaru

She cuts down a whole forest when hunting a single person. Basically she doesnt take chances.

TenTen - Obviously Temaris fighting style was a bad match for Tenten, but still she obviously showed whos the boss in the ring.

Shikamaru - She was able to tire out her opponent with her massive amount of chakra and power, she also proved out to be quite a good strategist. Not exactly everyone would count it as a real win, but she still won.

Tayuya - She obviously showed no mercy and showed one of the most destructive attacks in the series. When others supress their attack on a small area, she didnt need to, she was able to one hit kill her opponent with large scale wind attack.

4) Way the ninja interacts with the outside world
Cant really think of anything in here.

5) Appearance counts for little
She has 4 ponytails! Four! And a big red ribbon around her waist, and probably only genin from the genin exam who has some cleavage.

6) Way the ninja interacts with others
She seems to get along nicely even with people from other villages. She was chosen as Sunakagures representative in chuunin exam.

7) Quality of mind
She has shown some tactics and smarts when fighting against Shikamaru. And she has even shown some smarts outside of battle.

As shown above she has quite a good stamina for a woman and especially for a person of her age.

Doesnt seem to lack any willpower.

Not that great, she was fooled by Shikamarus Kunai&Shirt parachute trick and would have missed it without Kankurou.

I said Gaara in the past but a new character has taken the throne from him. Kakuzu is the most badass. He had extremely menacing appearance from the start to his demise.
His introduction (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/311-320/312/Naruto_v35_ch312_p16-17.png) showed only his white-within-black eyes (turned out extremely lame in the anime though) and he's just oozing "hey I'm bad" attitude. We see him later on with his cloak off (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/331-340/334-/006-007.jpg) and he has an extremely cool outfit and gives off the impression that he's waited long enough, in a manner that Sasori could never hope to mimic. His second final form is also extremely cool, with the elemental bazookas on his shoulders like any self-respecting Transformer and black threads flying all over.

As for his personality, it really couldn't get any better. The guy is the very definition of a ninja, cause he's a mammal that flips out and kills people (rep to anyone who knows where that's from :P). He has even openly threatened to kill Hidan several times, despite knowing that he can't. Because Kakuzu knows that despite however immortal Hidan is, he's still nothing next to himself. It also gives him the opportunity to get back at Hidan's tedious "lol you can't kill me Kakuzu". Of course, the cream of the cake is when Kakashi stabbed him a hole in him (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/331-340/333/Naruto_v37_ch333_p16-17.png) and, as soon as he realized whose hand it was protruding from his chest, all he could think of was how much cash he could get from Kakashi's corpse. Brushing off an severe injury like that and just thinking about what a treat you're in for is the very definition of badass.

Fighting style then. Well, not only can he do the Itachi kick (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/331-340/334-/004.jpg) better than its inventor, smash buildings like Tsunade (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/321-330/323/Naruto_v36_ch323_p04.png), smack people with a suitcase (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/321-330/326/Naruto_v36_ch326_p04.png) and strangle people with extendable arms (http://devilbox.dead.org/n/321-330/326/Naruto_v36_ch326_p10.png), his main form of fighting is simply widespread destruction. Let loose 4 artillery pieces and have them blast the terrain to hell without concern for who might be standing in their way (no wonder he's killed so many partners!). If anyone gets out alive, grab them with your extendable tentacles and crash them into the ground.

But he's not just going to blast you to hell, he's going to rip your heart out and use it to blast even more stuff to hell. While Sasori's and Oro's ways of stealing enemy skills might be creepier and Itachi's is more effective, Kakuzu's is certainly the most badass. He opens your chest, pulls out the beating heart and tosses your body aside. There is no "I'm going to turn your body inside out for three days, you'd be luckier to end up in Saw 4", no "lol I'm a big snake and I'm going to live in your body now because this one sucks, want to make a wish before you die?" and no "hey I copied your attacks but you didn't even notice". He just does it; no arguments, no warning and no drawn out ritual, yet still makes sure the opponent feels it.

Kakuzu's motives are also of interest. Making money might not be the most original motivation nor the most badass one, but Naruto is hardly full of badass motivations (I'm going to be Hokage! I'm going to live until my parents are reborn! I'm going to make art that lasts forever! I'm going to get Kisame's sword! you get the point) and it's fantastic to finally see such a simple yet realistic motivation. Greed is a well tried motivation and it never fails. And the way he goes about fulfilling his goal is great in itself; bounty hunting. This guy isn't hunting bounties to make a living, he's hunting bounties just because he likes money. How awesome is that!
