My favorite character is, without a doubt, Uzumaki Naruto, the star of the story. I'm a sucker for the "Loser to Hero" character type, I admire his determination, love his jutsu, and enjoy his character quirks.

I'll say Gaara, because as well as being one of the most interesting and well-developed characters in the series, and being immensely cool, he also has by far the best fights in the series. He's had 4 major battles, and all of them have been spectacular - fights like his are one of the main reasons I love this series so much. Hell, characters like this are one of the main reasons I love it so much. :amuse

I chose Uzumaki Naruto because I really can feel his emotions and he reminds me of myself. I love his determination, how he never gives up, and how he always believes in himself. He also inspires others to want to be better people, which is a very rare quality to find in a person. Then there is his anthro kyuubi form which is just plain awesome.

He's generally cool under pressure, his resourcefulness never ceases to amaze me (his battles are by far the best, in my opinion), and he's a loyal guy. Whenever his tactics succeed, you hear one of the best tracks in the series ("Fake"), which immensely adds to the moment!

Kakashi. When I first started watching Naruto I thought it was the dorkiest thing ever. I would actually go around bashing it. But that was mostly because all the narutards were so annoying. -.- And at the time, kakashi seemed to be the only standable character. ...And Iruka. :3

Then Naruto. He used to be the character I disliked the most but, that whole zero to hero thing got me. xD The only thing I don't like about Naruto is that, I think he's the most powerful character with that fox of his. :\ It makes it sort of an unfair fight. I see him becoming the most powerful character, I predict not even Sasuke can defeat him. [No spoilers please. D:]

Kimimaro is a tragic character. He is probably one of the most talented ninjas we've seen throughout the series, and was also quite smart. But he was treated as a dangerous tool by his fellow clan members, and never got to experience something as love. When he had finally found a purpose in life, a path for him to walk, it was taken away from him just as fast, and his existance in the world became meaningless. Moving purely on will, he decided to do one last favor to Orochimaru before he died.

I symphatize with him, in addition to being interested in his personality and style of fighting. Shortly put; Kimimaro is badass.

Kakashi and Gai are both awesome, in two completely different ways. I like Naruto a lot, along with basically all of the rookie nine. And Rock Lee and Neji and TenTen. Also, I gotta throw in all the summoned Frogs, Gamabunta and his kids, they add a lot of humor to whatever episodes they are in. I guess my best way to sum it up is I like the good guys and something that I find so cool about this series is that i find myself REALLY hating the bad guys.

There are some impeccable characters in the Naruto universe, but what makes them so great? Most people seem to have their favorite(s), and I'd like to get an idea of why, precisely.

Personally, I like almost all of the characters, but one of my favorites is easily Rock Lee. Why? Well, even though I find him to be a bit unrealistic in certain ways (never really met anyone who can fight in his/her sleep, but hey, it's all good), I find him to be more of a representation of a basic human trait: determination. Essentially, he embodies the value of hard work and a strong will to achieve greatness. To me, that's just awesome, watching Lee struggle against his 'talentless' origins to improve himself.

So, I wanna know what you think of your favorite characters? Is just their backstory? Their actions/reactions in certain situations?

I guess, I'm looking for more than just the ole' because they're awesome, y’know? Obviously, how characters fight will play a part in what you think of them, but there's usually more to it than that.

If you're wondering why I'm so curious about this, it's simply because I'm looking for some insight as to why people fall in love with their favorite characters. I find that Naruto has a very strong fanbase and I think it's heavily do to the characters that Kishimoto uses.

I have 3 favorite characters.

In order of favoritism.

Naruto - You gotta love a guy who was put through so much hardship and still came out not holding a grudge. That and he sorta reminds me of a good friend of mine.

Rock Lee - For most of the reasons that the OP stated. Also I just enjoy the way he fights and I love speed more than anything, so when he opens those gates it is badass. (Why not Gai then? Meh, he's great but I like Rock Lee better)

Neji - He just pwns. His fighting style is my favorite fighting style out of everyone else. 64 strikes? That's just a more badass version of a game me and my friend used to play in college (and still do on occasion). It is nothing but 64 strikes of rape on you. His attitude left a little to be desired but he made up for it with ass kickery.

My favorite character would have to be Nara Shikamaru. He's generally cool under pressure, his resourcefulness never ceases to amaze me (his battles are by far the best, in my opinion), and he's a loyal guy. Whenever his tactics succeed, you hear one of the best tracks in the series ("Fake"), which immensely adds to the moment!

When I first started reading/watching Naruto, Kakashi seemed like the only standable character. The rest annoyed me so much. Back then, I really disliked the series and thought it was over rated. So seeing that out of all these characters, I was able to even like any character(him :P), it made him special.
And he's just a silly, easy going character. Not all this angst or seriousness. And he's definatly not one of the strongest (From what I've seen/read, I stopped and came back to the series recently. I'm really far behind x.x) but, I still admire him. Usually when someone messes up, I stop liking them for a bit because I'm silly, but I'll always love Kakashi. The fact that you can draw him all silly without it being OOC also makes me happy. :D And the mask, its just hot! ;p

Very very very /very/ close second is Lee. But I started likeing Kakashi before Lee...so. xD *super Lee fangirl* And why I like him?

After that, I love Naruto, Shika, Jiraiya, Kiba, Neji, Tsunade, Kankuro, Hayate, and Sakura. xD ...Though I haven't seen much of some of them. I need to catch up. :[

I would have to say something about my top 2 favorite characters

First Naruto, he is an person that has been shunned by the village during most of his childhood, even so he wants to show everyone that he is not what they think he is, the Kyubi, but an determened ninja who's capable of making the best out of the worst kinds os people. also he never gives up, he gets up when he is knocked down. He is a Proud Failure!

Second is Hinata she has been called a failure among her clan and has lost all confiedence in herself, however due to Naruto's determenation to be the best and become the next Hokage, she trys harder to become acknowledged by her clan, by her friends, and most of all Naruto. little by little shes changing into a stronger ninja, like others she wants to prove herself, thus she has shown me that people can change from worst to the best and in time Hinata will be able to stand with the most elite of Konoha.

Well, my favorite character is Rock Lee. I think the reason I like him so much, is because he is so much like me. He's just...normal. Most of my friends are all gifted in some way. They're really good at a certain sport, they're good in chemistry, math, etc. I'm not really gifted in any sort of field. I just try my butt off to be on the same level as them.

Well I like my favorite characters because:
Sakura- Alota people hate her, but I think she's awesome cause she shows courage and she shows that people can change who they are, her determination is just so great that I honor her, not just all that but she's also funny at times.
Shikamaru- He's totally lazy like me and likes staring at the clouds which I sometimes do, I like him because he's similar to me and not just that he's super smart and he's a spectacular strategist.
Hinata- Another character who showed everybody wrong, she showed that she was once unconfident, but she changed that and she has improved so much, she's also caring and I just love her personality.
Neji- Because he's so strong and a genuise!! And that he changed as well from total jerk to someone who you can depend on and stuff.
Gaara- Because he totally pwns everybody!! And he has a really nice personality (after Naruto knocked some sense into him), he learned he could be caring and with knowing that he became Kazekage.

As for first impressions; mine wasn't as critical as a lot of other people with the classic:

Which may have been true, but in the BEGINNNG. I myself just didn't think much of her, but now that I've witnessed her character growth throughout the series so far, I defintely admire this girl. She's ill-tempered, overly sensitive and violent.. BUT she's also courageous and has a strong sense of will and determination ..and serves as a lot of comic relief in my case. 'Inner Sakura' kills me. :'D Not to menton she's the most.. well, 'normal' character? She has no OMGTRAGIC past or OMGWTFPWNAGE ability.

As Shikamaru bluntly states; Sakura is "A Kunoichi with no special ability." xDD

So, yeah. Maybe it's just because I'm a girl and it's easier for me to relate to her.
