This movie looks awesome! It actually looks pretty scary. Isn't it based on a game?

No, it's a remake of the Japanese film, Ju-On: The Grudge" (http://www.juonthegrudge.com/) (much like "Ringu" -> "The Ring", if you're familar with that film). But yes, it's a great horror film, and the I expect the remake to live up to its predecessor.
well we see what the future holds...........

Yah. Still, you can't really help but expect the film to at least be decent when the remake shares the same director and a few certain actors with the original. :D

So I presume you's a fan of the movie/s?

Here's the trailer for those who know nothing about this movie: http://www.apple.com/trailers/sony_pictures/the_grudge/
That thing looks ultra creepy. There's not many movies that come close to scaring me, but this one looks like it could succeed. Sam Raimi's producing it...that makes me happy. :D
Sam Raimi, the Spider man dude and the Hercules series (Kevin Sorbo as hecules) YEAH! he is cool, but what does a Producer do?

Actually Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) has been in many horror movies. She's a pretty good actress. Since there is a Japanese version to this, I'm pretty sure the American version will be better. The Ring was way better than the Japanese version "Ringu", and the effects were better too. I'm pretty sure it'll be the same case for the grudge.

How was the original? Do you think it'll stand a chance against the new upcoming one?

MAN! Did I just see Ted Raimi in the trailer?! Not the one that's on this message (although he might be; I haven't seen it), but the one that I just saw on TV. Sweet, Ted Raimi is awesome.
The Ring was way better than the Japanese version "Ringu", and the effects were better too. I'm pretty sure it'll be the same case for the grudge.
Personally, I thought the original Ring was better than its Hollywood counterpart. The Hollywood version had more grand special effects, as well as a tense atmosphere, but the original had that unnerving feel, and..
*Spoiler for those who haven't seen one or either*
Sadako's TV walk is creepier than Samara's TV walk; that, and Sadaka was a grown woman. It's just scarier to me when an adult ghost wants you dead instead of a little girl.
Still, to each his own. :)
How was the original? Do you think it'll stand a chance against the new upcoming one?
It's almost like the original Ring to The Ring, I suppose. Although the one thing that Ju-On and The Grudge differs from that series is that both the original and the remake will have the same actress and actor for the part of the ghosts, and that both the remake and the original will share the same director. So I'm fully expecting the Hollywood version to be better or on-par with the original.
But if you're asking if the original movie is creepy, scary, good, etc.. then yes suh, yes it is.

Has anyone played the game on "the grudge" site? It's actually pretty freaky if you're alone in the dark.

I've seen the original, and I've seen all the trilogy ^^ If u know The Ring, i think this Ju-On is scarier than The Ring. That's my opinion. My certain friend, who had never scared of such things, got scared because of this movie. He didn't scare at all when he saw The Ring. I notice that the remake version uses the same 2 ghosts, so I guess it'd be fun!!! Have fun experiencing the fear ^^

I'll have to check out both versions, but something tells me that the high budget American version will do better. =\

I just saw this movie last week. It was by far the freakiest movie I've ever seen. It had quite a good storyline to it.

Ah, I saw the Grudge today. It actually wasn't that scary in my opinion. It was more like the scary parts all went one scene at a time, and they didn't flow together. Made the story less realistic, and less freaky. Scary movies are REALLY scary when you lay awake at night afterwards and get freaked out at being alone. Didn't happen with this movie :(.

I've watched the original first then I watched the american remake (for free at a midnight screening, Sarah Michellle Gellar showed up for a couple seconds too =P) they are essentially the same movie. which is to say, pretty scary but any sort of character development and storyline is fairly nonexistent.
They both were directed by the same japanese director, filmed in most of the same locations and even employ some of the same japanese actors.

In reference to the ju-on movies, apparently there are a few as I understand it.
the ring and the grudge are linked in someway, is this it or is there something else? I also know that there are more like this, i've read about grudge 2, ring 2 and dark water i think its called, what are these and how do they relate?
I saw this halloween night and i've havn't been into a film this bad since...well i don't think anythings had this wierd kind of impact on me. I love it, the most terrifying thing ive ever seen. I don't like these people who can't admit anything scares them cos they think its "hard"
Any info on th above question?
I want to see the original and the sequal

I saw it jus 2 days ago, wasnt scary at all. U can obviously tell whats gonna happen, cuz of the music, etc.. i think it was a waste of money i think Ray is worth watching. Cant believe people jumped and screamed, its like watching thos pictures on the net where you wait a few seconds then a face pops out.

I don't think Ring and the Ju-on series are related. Dark Water is different, too. The Ring isn't really about ghosts and stuff, it's about a psychic girl (Sadako) who spreads her virus to a lot of people via her tape. Ju-on is about.. well, you know what it's about.
Ring 2 and Ju-on 2 just give you more information about their prequels. Oh yeah, and there're currently 5 Ju-on movies, two versions of Ju-on 1 (tv and movie versions), two versions of Ju-on 2 (tv and movie) and the american remake. They're all pretty good
I Personally think that the
movie sucked!!
it didn't eve scared me!!
i want my money back!

Haha, ill admit some parts were "wierd" not scary, I dont get scared I just get wierded out. I basically sat through the movie and thought to myself "wow that was odd" thats it. It was funny to see other people jump though. I also saw Ju-On before I saw the Grudge, I think the Grudge was better, I think it was "scarier" in my opinon.
well i went last saturday
and there were alot of old
people (over 20)
and they weren't even freakin'
out
me, i was waiting for the suspence
but it was always the same,

Saw the original in korean.. wasnt to scary to me. US vertion of the ring was better in my oppinion. the plot is mre... consistant. asian scary movies tend to have a bit looser plot and in comparison tend to seem a bit more like a series of scarry senarios wrather than a solid consistant movie.
thats not to say it ISNT scary ... just not as blow your mind scary as some other shows i have seen.

This movie didn't scare me at all, only freaky parts were the Office Building Stairway part and the House Stair part where she crawls her way down or up.
i know it was somehow pathetic
but i like the story!

People who say they've seen the Japanese version need to be more specfic.
There are four versions of Ju-On, basically the same story, made in Japan.
The Grudge is the fifth version.
The American sequel, being planned, will be the SIXTH version.
It's still the same story. Each and every time directed by the same director/writer of the Japanese versions.
Hats off to Shimizu Takashi. He deserves it.

I've seen Ju-On: The Grudge.
It was interesting and awesome to some degrees.
The people looked insane!
Anyways, I haven't seen the english version,
but I heard that its not even worth my money,
that the Japanese is a whole lot better...
But that coming from a group of people who understand the Japanese version.
Where can i see
the japanese version?

i've seen all three of the original. it's true, there are three of them. many people think there are actually two, in fact it's 3.
personally when i saw the preview for "The Grudge" I knew i wasn't going to watch it. all the horror scenes are EXACTLY the same as the japanese one and the plot (however non existant) as well. i wouldn't watch it but i would recommend it to anyone who wants a scare. it is scary and is by far one of the scariest japanese horror movies i've seen. (yes i've seen all three and i really regret it now... ^^" haha)

man it probably would have been scary if the person i was watching it with would stop flirting with the guys in the back. it was ok there were some scary parts i really hated seeing her face it was just scary as hell but i would have to say the ring was better. i only was scard a day of watching it. but when i watched the ring i was like holy shit i need my mommy man that was scary i was scared to use the toilet cause i thought it was a well.

Heheh I heard in the middle of the movie, there isn't any sound. Then the girl ghost pops out and freaks everyone out. My sister's friend saw it and said that the theater was packed when it was starting and half full at the end.

I know that that movie isn't scary. it was just weird and creappy. in some parts it was funny and somewhat stupid. but my friend was jumpin out of her seat and covering her eyes when the horror seens started. but then she wound up laughing. you could hear people in the theatre laughing out load. oh well at least i had a good time, Laughing that is. well, im out........

hahaha.. when I was in the theatres, everybody just laughed and I was the onlyone, who was scared all the time ^_^; Okay.. There were few stupid scenes and I laughed, but I was scared.
And I think that S.M.G. was a bad idea for being the main character of the movie. She's not credible actress at all. And Jason was a bad idea too.. He's a freakin Roswell ALIEN, not a horror movie-cutie.
