question about photoshop

does anyone know why text looks like crap in photoshop? i mean its really rough looking see check out this pic

am i doing something wrong? anyone know a way i can make the edges of the text smoother?
its like that with most fonts it seems
im using photoshop cs btw

set the font to smooth & try to play with things like the blending & opacity...
