As the thread states: Old gundams kick ass.
Currently im watching Gundam ZZ (on ep31 now) wich I think is great. It's probably the best gundam I've seen to date. It's just something special about it. Quite hard to explain. The new one's are too 'new', it's so different from the ones made during the 80's and 90's.
The best thing about Gundam ZZ so far is the gundams. Hyaku-shiki is probably the coolest gundam ever. The Zeta and Double Zeta are also very cool.
And despite ZZ's age it's very well made. Very intense and good mix of drama and stuff. It has some bad parts though (Mashima and the guys crying over how 'dedicated' their mates are.) But other than that, it's pretty much flawless.
And I who was told that ZZ was a joke (in the beginning at least, wich it was.) turned out great. And if all the stuff Kevin has said about Z, it can't be worse.
But now I have to wait for ep31-40 for like 3 hours. Buhuuu. :sad

If you loved ZZ, you are really going to love Z. Kevin and Tanon can probably write freakin' essays on why Z Gundam kicks ass, so I'll leave that to them. I'm too lazy

Well i like the new anime series alot, but i got a thing with the series from the 80's and 90's.Yes the animation is outdated, but i like the nostalgic vallue of them.
Not only do i like them, but i really want to collect them on dvd. Right now i really cant deside wether i should buy the original mobile suit gundam series, or the movie trilogie of mobile suit gundam. Do you have any recomendations?
And not only ms gundam, but also other old anime series like mobile police patlabor or the macros saga(robotech), aura battler dunbine, gatchamen, i realy want to collect those as well.
Does annyone else have this krave to collect old anime series or have anny recomendations?

I wish I could share your enthusiasm mates. I cant seem to download Gundam ZZ at animesuki. Anyhows on the topic, I think the Gundams that were made roughly around that UC time rocks. My fav is still the RX-78GP03 Gundam "Dendrobium Orchis". Ive been slowly getting Gundam Zeta ive only gotten first 3 eps so far, but since everyones crazy about Im sure it will be worth the wait. :wink

Ah, watching Z and ZZ out of order are ya? You should see Zeta at it's prime in Z. And Hyaku Shiki piloted by Quattro is way better than anybody else piloting it. It also isn't a Gundam. It was a prototype MS used to test some of the technology that went into the Zeta. It's basically a walking shield due to the coating. Yazan in ZZ was stupid. In Z he'll make you hate him. Yazan in Z > Yazan in ZZ. Z is just freaking awesome. My favorite of the Gundam series. Though, I really do need to see all of ZZ so I can see more Haman. Mmm Emma Sheen, Four Murasame, and Haman Karn...:love I'd write more on the awesomeness of Z but I'm pressed for time at the moment.

The original Gundam rocks my socks, I loved all the weird designed Zeon mobile suits, as they looked so freaky. Especially the marine types like the ZGOK etc. Also the characters were good too, didn't really like Amuro too much but Char was just better than sliced bread. Such a genuine guy at times, none of this "Mwa ha ha ha" crap, he is what a antagonist should be like.
Not seen Z or ZZ though, but hoping too soon!

First of all, I'm not a "download guy" since all I only have a 56k, so don't suggest that I download it instead...
Well, I had the money, but the anime shop doesn't have it. And to think that I was so excited the night before.
But that's off-topic. I'll have my chances, though, someday...
The only old Gundam series I've seen is the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Char's Counterattack (that was also made in the 80s). Both are good, IMO.

Well, if you still have the money and the ability to order online, http://www.rightstuf.com/ had it for a fairly good price when I pre-ordered it.

Just a word of warning for any prospective viewers of Zeta, avoid the HK dvds....the subs are painfully bad. I can't believe I wasted my money on them...Still, my japanese was good enough for me to turn off the subs and scrape by, so I still got to watch the awesome series.

I avoid bootlegs at all costs. Which is why I suggested Rightstuf. They sale R1 DVDs. That's where I bought my collector's box set of Zeta.

Annyway, actually first i wanna buy the dvd's from the origianal ms gundam, but i have doubths wether i should buy the movie trilogie or all the eps on dvd? Do you have anny recomendations, are the movies well done? I know that they are recap movies but is it still fun to watch storywise?

I'll take that as a warning. Thanks. And yeah, thanks for the suggestions. Sooner or later, I'll share my thoughts on Zeta. :)

UC Gundam series were the greatest, yes... You really should watch Zeta before ZZ, though 'cause it's like right after Zeta, like maybe a day or two later. But then again, you should watch MS, 08th MS Team, 0080, 0083 before Zeta, if you haven't already. The story is much more understandable that way. Yay. I was much fortunate to get mine while in Japan, so no trouble of downloading, though they are all in Japanese with no subs, but that's beside the point. Yes, they are awesome. And yes, the newer series just don't cut it like the old ones do, like right to the bone, ya know, like wtf.

ZETA ZETA ZETA ZETA !!!
Ah, my friend, you have discovered the wonders of the Grypps and First Neo Zeon Wars ^_^ Congratulations to you! I'm currently re-watching Zeta, and I still get chill bumps. It's such an amazingly good series, that you NEED to watch it. Double Zeta didn't fare so well at first, but it turns out alright in the end. Tomino stepped in to give it a shove in the right direction so he could make CCA a success. And yes, the Zeta may kick ass in ZZ (just ignore the Zeta Zaku, please). But in Zeta...she is godly. I still shudder with joy at the thought of it's badass-ness. ^_^

I don't know where to put this, but since this one talks about "old Gundams"...
The reason I was out for a few days (well, most people won't notice it anyway...) is that I was finally successful in having my own copy of the whole Zeta Gundam series. Though there were some minor problems, though.
Anyway, to go on.
Warning: Spoilers included!
Thanks to some of your insights, I was expecting that Zeta will be a very good series. And after watching the full 50 episodes, all I can say that it really rocks! :)
What I liked most in Zeta is that in almost every episode, there is always a MS battle, and despite all of that, the story and characters still manage to develop. A friend of mine said that it is because it is an old series, there is this "MS Battle For A Day" syndrome. Well, Tomino is also responsible for Voltes V. Go figure. Speaking of which, the best is at the last episode - the four way battle between Char, Camille, Haman and Scirocco. That was soooo good.
And yes... characters. Zeta is the best in terms of that. I was so attached to each and every one of them, especially Kamille. He isn't angsty just because he needs to, but he definitely has reason for being such. Not to forget, the characters from Mobile Suit Gundam - Char, Amuro, Bright, etc. I was surprised on how they were after then. And surprisingly, Katsu is a major character.
There were also a lot of female MS pilots - Emma, Four, Fa, Reccoa... and the list goes on. I've said this in some other thread that I really like females piloting mobile suits. :D
Lastly, the last few episodes. That was so good. The best cliffhanger in a story... ever.
I mean, I've just watched in only once. Of course, I would like a second round. And maybe I'll be able to find more good points about this wonderful series.
It may be old, but it rocks. Looks can be really be deceiving...
