Speaking of Hyuuga fanworks, it's so difficult making a NejiHina layout because of the lacks of pics. There's fanart, but I still follow old net-etiquettes and will not use other people's fanart (especially for websites) without e-mailing them first. And it's too much of a hassle to e-mail, especially if half of them are not fluent in English. I'm too lazy and uninspired to draw my own.

Thanks guys. The problem seems to be that it works on Firefox and IE 7, but not IE 6. Now I'm not sure how should I adjust to make it work for IE 6 users. It's easy to remember Neji's. He seems to share a birthday with everyone. Including my younger sister.

But Hinata gets caught up in the holiday rush. Seems to always happen to people with birthdays around Christmas.

Oh thanks for the birthdays *writes it down on a piece of paper* now I'll remember from now on. Yes, you're right about that. I tried searching for just Neji and I get a lot of NejiHina popping up. It is great, it means that NejiHina is dominating the world! *Makes a dramatic laugh of triumph* Personally I dislike NejiTen so I don't really bother in looking for that NejiHina rulez!

I personally get more NaruSaku vibes than NaruHina in the ending, honestly. NaruHina is portrayed as a one-sided crush, whereas Sakura was the first to notice Naruto in this opening, had a serious scene and ended with a major moment too. But it's only an ending anyway so it's not like it matters.

NejiHina, how do I begin. It's a bit hard when there bond to each other
is so complex and has so many levels of depths to it, that it can be hard to even be able comprehend it at times. But at the same time I get such a serene and relaxing feeling when ever I think of this pairing. There's so many reasons why I respect/enjoy it.



(I'm not sure but this might be somewhat bias a little =/)


Hinata and Neji. Two individuals who, since tender childhood, were forced to witness and experience heavy realities that no child at such a fragile age should have to even know existed yet. And learn just how unfair life can be at times. Both were born into a very strict family, that followed extremely harsh and rigid rules and were forced to bear a harsh destiny that was given to them by the very people who were supposed to love and protect them more so than
any one else in the world.

But what I also find another sense of loss when I think of all the what-if scenarios that could have happened if things were just a little different for Neji and Hinata.

From what I saw of Neji's flashback (the one he had in the chunin exams when he was
fighting Naruto), I did not see the cocky smug guy who ridiculed others, nor the girl who had serious self-worth issues and who did not like herself. But rather I saw two young and very naive children, who had yet to fully learn what kind Family/Clan they had been
born into.

Both were just so naive and innocent back then, that it was heartbreaking to see what they both went through to scar them so much.

Neji was always smiling and had such a sweet gentle childlike nature that he had no trouble displaying to anyone. He liked the thought of being Hinata's protector and
wanted to take that responsibility with vigor and excitement. Even after he was forced to recieve the traditional branch family seal, he still wanted to perform his given duties with naive enthusiasm. But tha sadly that was ripped away from. His Father, the man who was most likely his whole world back then, was tortured and treated like his existence was less than a dogs. By not only by his uncle, but by the man whose daughter he was charged to guard for the rest of his life. This birthed within Neji, a dark bitterness against Main family branch house, and the fate that caused him to be born in such a enviroment. This was only enforced when his Father was sent to his
death for reasons that were never truly explained to him until much later in life.

Hinata was always a sensitive and shy child. What children, ecspecially ones like her, need most from their parents. Are approval (well unless they were doing something bad at the time -_-;), warm affection given daily, and open love. Her Father did not give
these things to her very well. He was often stern and harsh on her. Expecting things that were too much and too fast from her. When I saw the first meeting between her and Neji, she acted shy but, looked happy also. Maybe she hoped that they could be close. But sadly that did not happen. Neji's growing bitterness and frustration of his past and current circumstances would lead him to direct and blame all his suffering towards the Main family Branch, Fate,..and Hinata.

If things had been different, just a little different. Perhaps Hinata and Neji could have grown to be each others anchor. Where they lived was a cold place. They could have been the others warm place and thus provided and shared a small sanctuary with each other against the troubles of the world. Been each others confidant and support.

But no...that did not happen.

Because of the way society worked in their Clan, Neji and Hinata were not allowed to grow in the enviroment where they could br free of predujice and the high and low expectations that were to be expected of them since birth.

Hinata became withdrawn, Neji became unreachable. Both were lonely, they really had no one. Neji's Father, the only true support he had since the day he was born was gone. Hinata was forsaken by her own and thrown away as if she were just a broken tool. And because Neji was so deep in his angry despair, and Hinata with her shyness and timid ways. The distance between the two became to far, neither could reach the other.

In the Chunin Exams match where they would be matched to fight against the other. Neji and Hinata showed just how complicated their relationship really was for the first time to me. Neji knew exactly how to weaken Hinata with just a few words. He would
try to act like she was too insignificant to push him in anyway. Yet I saw more reaction and emotion come from him, then I had anytime before, because of Hinata herself. Hinata could also use words to impact Neji.

She saw his deep suffering, how he was still a bird trapped in a cage built around him. Unlike herself who was slowly learning to move forward, and break away from the despair that used to control her life. Hinata saw that Neji's despair was still locked on him, preventing him from moving on, and becoming a free bird.

So even with death looming over her, she reached out with a open heart and all the courage she could call forth. Hinata told Neji the words hat no one else ever bothered tell him.

Something within Neji snapped. He became violent and rushed forward with the intention of hurting her. Why would he do this instead of just scoffing and turning
away without a second and take his advancement to the next round like that.

Because I think he felt the truth in her words. She read him like a book, and spoke with sincerity to him. To have someone, who he thought with disdain, understand and reach out to him in such a way that no else ever did or could, angered him. Because she was someone he thought he hated, because she was a living reminder to the family status he was born into, and because he was so deeply hurt and too afraid to openly admit to wanting to fight against his fate. In a way Neji was fighting against
his fate by refusing to protect Hinata. But he was still discouraged and very frustrated by his circumstances and did not want to get his hopes up for ever escaping those painful binds that trapped him to the past. For he was afraid of receiving more failure and
dissapointment than he could take in his life.

Hinata is one of the very few people who can draw such a powerful reaction out of Neji, and understand/relate to him. But thier relationship was still sour.

Naruto helped though. By being a inspiration for Hinata and defeating Neji in a match, he proved that people can change and overcome obstacles as long as they never give
in/up. Neji was able to let go of his hatred, since like Hinata herself said, it wasn't doing him any good in life. And has stopped using Hinata as a scapegoat for his problems. And Hinata bears no grudges.

Hinata and Neji have traveled a very long and hard road, but they've become stronger people now, and their relationship has changed.

Hinata is no longer afraid of Neji and seems to be very comfortable and trusting in his companionship now. Neji no longer blames Hinata for his problems and treats her with
more respect and care.

Neji acts content around her in a way I've never seen him act around any one else before. His smiles directed to her are content and happy. He lets his guard down
rather quickly to her and starts casual friendly conversations with her. Something I hadn't ever seen him do with any other character before (well maybe his Dad, but
he's long dead -_-). Hinata also looks very content and serene with him. She does not act unsure or timid with him, nor does she fret about messing up infront of him.
She is completely relaxed in his presence. Hinata does not worry about losing acceptence from him, therefore she can be herself freely and not have to worry all the
time trying to please him all the time.

Both understand each other in ways that no one else can. They don't need to comunicate with words in order to know what the other is thinking or feeling. Both
completely accept the other's being. They know each others strongest gifts and ugliest faults and embrace them all with fully accepting and understanding arms.

I believe they could bring their broken family together and changed the way it is for the better. So that future generations would not have to endure what they themselves had to. Hinata could be the warmth to the frigid and gently have everyone acknowledge the wrongness that is in their Clan. Neji would also appeal to his family, but would also be Hinata's main support and pillar of strength through the ordeal. And continue to
stay by her side, just being that constant souce of acceptance and understanding for her, like she is for him.

Both have grown from their experiences, with each other and as individuals. The distance between them has continued to close and become less and less as each day goes by. Hinata and Neji have in my opinion have one of the series most complex and serene bonds, that has changed grown in many ways.

They have overcome and acknowledged much with each other and there selves.And I believe their bond will only continue to grow stronger as life goes on.

I'm not that fond it because it's too one-sided.

I personally get more NaruSaku vibes than NaruHina in the ending, honestly. NaruHina is portrayed as a one-sided crush, whereas Sakura was the first to notice Naruto in this opening, had a serious scene and ended with a major moment too. But it's only an ending anyway so it's not like it matters.

Sasuke has always been afraid of creating bonds. He was never close to a women besides his mother, and then he goes and gets teamed up with a fangirl of his. At first, he really dislikes her, for not understanding pain and things she'd never dealt with (proof that Sakura is a realistic, normal character, THANK GOD), but somehow that doesn't stop Sakura. All of his rejections help her mature and she ends up falling in love with Sasuke.

He does care about her - he just has a hard time showing affection. Do realize he tried to kill Naruto.

Sakura's speech was far from pathetic. She was desperate, she was in love, she was a typical girl who wanted to keep her precious person with her, she was realistic, she was needy, she was selfish, she was average, and she understood more now. She tried to understand Sasuke's pain - she no longer treated Naruto like he was lower than dirt - she understood she wasn't the strongest kunoichi in the world. She was able to start out from a selfish person, to a self-sacrificing one.

"Thank you" were Sasuke's last words. He then knocked her out to keep her from yelling, and left her lying on a bench.

The fact that he said "Thank you" at all says so much.

It's considered reposting. Most fanartist worked from a while back, back in the day when the anime fandom was actually composed of many many wonderful sites. Normally when people who post other's fanart without permission or a credit link back to the artist, it's considered stealing. Also most fanartist does not like people editing their fanart, such as using it to be part of a layout or icon, etc. Because it takes too much credit away from the artist, even if credit is provided. Each artist has their own policies. You'll have to look at what they say, most Japanese artist are part of a protection project (http://www3.to/ofp/). I couldn't care less about what people say, I support NejiHina because I beleive the two of them could truly be happy together. I believe they have already risen above their hatred and fear to form a strong bond and it will only progress from there, the two complete each other, cliche but true, Naruto brought them together and together they'll stay.

I think there will have to be more interaction sometime. The Hyuuga family story isn't over, meaning they'll have to come in contact sometime. In regards to this pairing happening, if NaruSaku happens, the chances of this will skyrocket. Well, not skyrocket, but you know what I mean. The chances will be a lot higher.

I really don't think Hinata will get with anyone other than Naruto or Neji, or she might even end up alone. But if that happens, we can speculate all we want :P

Anyway, I've written a ship manifesto if anyone is bored enough and wants to read it.



Normally, I don’t have that much trouble picking the pairings I like in a fandom, but Naruto was a toughie once I really started to think about it. I started off as a SasuSaku/NaruHina fan, but I really didn’t care about NaruHina at all. It went with SasuSaku, so of course I liked it. Soon, however, I grew bored with SasuSaku, so I started looking for a ship for my favorite character, Hyuuga Neji. Up until then, I had been shipping NejiSaku, but it just wasn’t cutting it in terms of fandom. I still like NejiSaku, but there’s so little fanart and fanfiction to feed my interest. So, I started to look elsewhere. I tried extremely hard to like NejiTen, considering it had all the prerequisites I normally need for liking a pairing (I like Neji, I like Tenten, why don’t they mate? XD), but as hard as I tried to force my affection on this pairing, it was no good. I just couldn’t sense the chemistry between them, and it really isn’t the kind of pairing I normally ship anyways (I still read NejiTen fanfiction, though).

So in my mind, I was out of pairings. I couldn’t bring myself to consider NejiHina as an option because, sadly, I was an “ew, incest” person. This is part of the reason that argument doesn’t bother me much, because I know how they feel, and I consider it a much more valid excuse for not liking NejiHina than “it would destroy their characters.” Anyway, the first time I read through the Neji vs. Hinata fight in the chuunin exams, I remember thinking, “Wow, Neji must have some tragic childhood to screw him up that bad.” Of course, I was right, and when I saw their past, I really wished that they weren’t cousins. Neji embodies all that I love in a character through the fact that he was a jerk, but he changes. He is redeemed, and I’m a sucker for the redemption story. Not only that, Hinata never blamed Neji, and in her seemingly infinite mercy, never hated him. Hatred to devotion. In my mind, it made the absolute perfect pairing.

But they were cousins. It was against everything I had been raised to believe (and I live in South Carolina. The only time “ew, incest” comments bother me is when they associate these things with the South. It’s just as socially taboo down here, people :notrust). So I tried to satisfy myself with NejiSaku or NejixMe NejixNobody. Still, I couldn’t stop my curiosity. I ventured into a few NejiHina fanfics, pretending that the story was about Neji and someone else, but finally, I had to admit that the story wouldn’t be as good with anyone else. They couldn’t have the same relationship if they weren’t cousins. So, I finally decided to head over to the Hyuugacest FC to hear their arguments and settle my thoughts once and for all.

I was surprised to find some of the best arguments for a pairing that I have ever read, and what I was even more surprised about was how few of the fans actually even considered NejiHina incest (not that many of them would have cared). I started with the manifestos, but when I got to one of the essays on culture and incest, something stopped me cold in my tracks. “Even the Bible doesn’t care. The Church started it for political reasons.” I’m a Christian, so what the Bible says is pretty important to me to say the least. It suddenly made sense, and looking back, I actually can’t believe I didn’t realize it before. I knew before that it was respectable at one time to marry someone’s cousin in Europe, but for some reason, it didn’t click with me that it wouldn’t have been so highly regarded in such a religious atmosphere had it been forbidden by the Bible. But of course, I had to find the specific verse to be sure. Looking it up, it listed, father, mother, even uncles and aunts, but not cousins incest (it’s Leviticus 18:6-18 if you’re interested). The fandom was correct (or at least by my standards).

Even so, I couldn’t bring myself to ship it. The fact that they were genetically half-siblings was too close for comfort for me, even though the genetics essays made me a little more open to it. So I stopped bashing it, but I wasn’t “supporting” it. But I still read its fanfiction. And looked at fanart. And defended NejiHina against bashers (only in my mind though XD). When I finally took a look at myself, I realized that I had succumbed to the inevitable: I had become a NejiHina fan. In the words of Mr. Darcy, “I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.” It still took me a little while to “come out of the closet” of NejiHina shipping, but now, I’m not really worried about it. I finally have my OTP.

In closing, don’t be too hard on people who bash this pairing for incest. They just don’t understand :amuse

For me, the incest has never really bothered me. It's just like with m/m pairings. Sure, I was a little uncomfortable, but I was TWELVE, so cut me a little slack. XD I got over it quick, and NejiHina...gahh, there's just no other pairing like it. Not because it's "OMGCANON", but because their interraction is so deep and so heartfelt that I just can't help but love them together. :nod

I'm not religious in any way, shape, or form, but I know how hard it must have been for you back when you thought your beliefs and your interest in NejiHina were conflicting. Naruto was the first anime/manga when I actually became pairing obsessed. Before, I just went with canon - Kyou and Tohru for Fruits Basket, Inuyasha and Kagome/Sango and Miroku for Inuyasha, and the usual. Naruto was different though. The fandom was different.

I never really got into God, the Bible, Christianity, or any religion, to say the least. So I was never taught anything about "incest" or how "marrying your cousin is bad". I don't ever even remember it being mentioned to me - I just think it was in my brain from natural instinct, since it's been around for so long.

My first introduction to NejiHina was my best friend, Melissa. Looking back, I think she wanted me to freak out. I asked her "Hey, give me an idea for a fanfiction!" She thought for a minute, and then said "Write a Neji and Hinata one." I think she had a smirk on her face.

I gave her no reaction. I grabbed a sheet of paper, and pencil, and just let the ideas roll. By the second chapter, I had Neji saving her. The fanfiction ended up converting her into NejiHina as well - I don't think she ever learned much about incest either, considering her family. It was something me and my friends all kind of accepted.

The Hyuuga cousins making out never got to us.

Writing that fanfiction made me think - I looked around for more NejiHina stuff - fanart, fanfiction, anything I could get my hands on would do. In the end, I found a few fanfictions I liked, and I ended up becoming obsessed. I'm not entirely sure how it happened - I wrote the fanfiction, and it just kind of...clicked. I defended NejiHina against bashers, wondering when people had gotten so unaccepting? I knew cousin/cousin relationships were not considered incest in a lot of Asian countries, and I didn't understand why so many people couldn't accept that.

I still don't.

Now NejiHina is my 2nd favorite pairing. And I'll defend it, I'll enjoy it, manifestos, fanfiction, AMVs, everything.

Well back on topic. Your essay was interesting, personal stories are always fun to read, especially ones about how one got into something. Most fans have similar experiences, but each with their own unique vignette. Hmm... I should find the post that inspired the creation of this club. The origin of Hyuugacest on NF.

After a while our FC got running on the road and gaining popularity, and mostly influence due to the BNF on this forum, there was a whole big spaz. People arguing back and forth for pages and pages.
It was such a long time ago, all the way back when my favorite NF couple were still talking to eachother. Started on the 2nd page, I think, but if you search through our arguments with the all sorts of shippers on NF went far into the pg 90s, and probably even further.

So that's about it the origin of Hyuugacest FC. It's a lot more interesting if you actually read through the thread and not just my crappy summary

It was sort of the same with me. I liked the same pairings as you in Inuyasha, but I did become slightly interested Sess/Kag (though I still like SessRin better, whether or not that's canon, I don't know). Then I liked Zutara in Avatar: The Last Airbender, and then I found Naruto and never really liked any of the "canon" pairings.

On a completely random note though, I'm very hesitant to call any of the pairings I like (NejiHina, SasuHina, NejiSaku) crack. They may not be canon, but I think of crack as pairings that are outlandish in that they're meant to be funny, like GamabuntaxIno. My pairings may not be likely to happen, but they're meant to be serious (and angsty :jk)

I think it's mostly due to fanfiction, but for some reason, they take this as meaning that it's the only way it will happen. I mean, why is it so much more possible for Naruto's love for Sakura to change to love for Hinata than it is for Hinata's love for Naruto to change? I mean, do they think Naruto's love is shallow? That's kind of insulting if you ask me :wink
