What kind of match is this?

it's a brawl, a competition , or are you trying to discuss which martial art is better?

As a former judo student, i've practiced both

In a fight Jiujutsu wins.

But in a video game Judo looks pretty sweet check it out

If the fight goes to the ground , yes, the jiujutsu specialist most likely would win (not always, since Judokas practice Jiu-jitsu too, ground-fighting it's part of the daily training)

However, if a judoka throws you, and you dont know the proper way to fall or you're fighting in a rough terrain instead of a tatami, you wont get up.
And unlike the other stand up disciplines (karate, taekwondo, muay thai, etc) a judoka isn't helpless if the fight goes to the ground

Fedor Emelianenko, the current undefeated Pride Heavyweight Champion is a Russian judo champion:oh
Hidehiko Yoshida, former gold medallist in Judo in Atlanta comes to my mind too.

Muay Thai >>>>> Ju-Jitsu > Judo
If the fight goes to the ground, Muay thai is as useful as a small cripled little kitten.

Jiujutsu is simply more practical for all forms of combat, especially close ranged ground as many have already stated. Most (if not all) real fights eventually end up on the ground anyway.

My brother does jiujutsu and I do mainly judo. When we fight I've found it extremely difficult to beat that kid. I usually try to avoid grappling at all costs which, is essentially impossible if we're fighting for real.

Nobody is ¨pure¨ in MMA anymore, you'll get owned like no tomorrow if you only know one style.
Fedor's background is Judo and Sambo.

Compare the martial arts to one another.judo derivated from Jiujitsu. jigoro Kano Judo's creator was a jiujitsu master, indeed.
He wanted to create a less aggresive style, well suited for women and children to practice.
Basically, they're the same. The difference is that Judo focus on takedowns and throws, Jiu-jitsu focus in ground fighting.

MMA fighters are all mixed martial artist, though they all have a base style; ie - Judo, Juijutsu, Kung Fu, Muay Thai, etc.

From personal experience, Judo is the better style since it is a style that encoporates all aspects of hand-to-hand - Stand-Up, Grapple, Throw, Submission.

There plenty of people who only fight using brazilian jiujutsu. its the best overall combat form.

How can you do Judo and avoiding grappling?

The OP never specified BJJ

Brazilian jiujitsu and jiujitsu are not the same thing.
Brazilian jiujutsu is an hybrid martial art , it was specifically created for that purpose (all-around combat). Carlos Gracie, the creator was a street fighter (and also, a classic jiu-jitsu practicioner), and the style incorporates aspects of many martial arts.
It's been a long time ago since the Gracies reigned in MMA.
And even they were forced to incorporate other techniques like Muay thai as the level of competition increased.
All the current champions dominate at least 2 styles.

You're right sadly....I kinda regret taking Muay Thai lessons sometimes, but heck it was fun,and it's neat to show off.

In a real fight Judo would most likely win, grappling tends to pwn any martial art forcused on striking.

Maybe you cant do ground fighting but you can always KO them :P . Like a 90% of the current MMA fighters incorporates Muay thai to their training, some champions, like Wanderlei Silva are muay thai specialists.

Lol yeah I wasn't very specific there. I also have taken Krav Maga and TKD. I really need to take something more combat practical like boxing or muay thai though. The general point I was making, is that he's a better grappler and as a result I try to avoid those scenarios. Though that is rather impossible to do in a non-regulated setting.

That's generalizing. It depends on the fighter. Some striking fighters have those quick jab-like strikes that deliver a lot of power, enough to knock someone out if hitting in the right spots.

i don't think judo would win against a juijitsu user cause judo are more on throwing and slaming people to the ground. while juijitsu uses various ground techs using it to submit ppl. it all depends on the user and who gives away an oppening

Jin22

These styles are very similar though If I were to choose between the two, I'd go with jiujitsu.

In all honesty, I believe though depending on the individual, that either art could overcome the other.

If the guy had no training he would get chopped down by leg kicks by a Muay Thai practitioner. A Judo practitioner would throw him to the ground and wrap him up. Jiu-Jutsu guy would take him to the ground and bend his limbs in ways they where made for.

It all depends on the fighter.

Crocop = Kickboxing
Wanderlei Silva = Muay Thai
Fedor = Sambo and Judo
Antonio Nog = BJJ

IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE FIGHTERS

Anybody could have no training what-so-ever and have been in fights all of his life. That guy would be a beast just for what he's endured.

In order to survive in such a high competition level, they all know more than one discipline.

Silva holds a black belt in BJJ
Crocop has studied wrestling
Fedor and Nogueira are also great at boxing

That is basically Tank Abbott he can also bench press 600 lbs. Tank Abbott has beat some guys and brought brutal knock outs but he has been beating by Judo, Muay Thai and Jiujutsu practitioners.

I wonder what started the brawl. It was probably at some bar where your sensei got drunk and got to talking.

Locard
12-20-2006, 11:44 PM
It was in a park, during a school kermess or something.

My sensei is also a lawyer, and it seems that some people there had a grudge against him due to some lawsuit issues, they got drunk and menaced him and tried to give him a beatin, my sensei did beat them nonsenseless and then some of their siblings and friends joined and tried to gang bang him.

too bad vitor belfort sucks now.

I heard he is in some different dojo now (i think he created the dojo along with a friend)

and he also said that he will be a new vitor (hinting that he's going to be the vitor when he was in the UFC)
reason? i think he got over his sister's death and other drama.

Sengoku
12-21-2006, 12:31 AM

that is good for Sylvia because i cant stand that fuckface oaf :/

though, at the same time, it is bad for PRIDE FC. :cry

Gray Wolf

You see how easily Fedor takes his opponents to the ground?
that's the power of Judo, pal.
And once you're down there, you cant do shit cause Fedor is a S-Class sambo master, which is very similar to Jiujitsu but more combative, and it seems like the guy is unphased by pain.
Crocop broke his nose in the last match and Fedor didn't back down (!!),
i remember Crocop trying to pull a Vitor Belfort vs Silva after he landed that punch on Fedor, but Mirko was the one who ended in the ground.
Fedor spits on pain.
