i have an idea that the companies should try, it fits perfectly the momento because u can download some games now. My idea is this: What if they created a game that doesnt end. u finish a part of the game and there goes a message: PLz download the second part. And they could create the game, and put the next parts of the game on internet so u can download them paying a little fee. some people could get really addicted to the game and play it for life. they should try this, it would rock

I think they have them but I don't really think they are good, things need some form of completion.

It may work with a game like Disgaea. Think about that.

I say no, I would prefer some variety. Also, I actually like beating games, it gives me some sense of accomplishment, I think a game like that would leave you feeling empty after countless hours of play.

For most games, I might agree. But with Disgaea and it's sequels are all basically the same games with new content. It could have an ending, but then you could download an expansion for it, instead of buying Disgaea 2. The expansions would have to be like another game, however. Otherwise the idea just doesn't work. But you could carry over data and such.

It wouldn't last forever, by any means. But it would probably last you for at least 10 games worth of gameplay.

MMORPGs are "never-ending" games. What you're suggesting are episodic games, but the thing is, it takes time to develop and complete a part of a game, so while you play Part I one of a game series, it may not tell you to download or buy the next part, but due to the way the story is left hanging or seemingly incomplete, you'll want to buy the next part when it does come out.

Other than that, the never-ending games are MMORPGs.

sounds like something no company would try... unless you pay for each new stage.

This is already being done. They release one part of story for players to enjoy and then they'll release the second part later, when they've finished it. An example of this would be Half-Life 2: Episode 1. It's not a "never-ending" game system though, because you would be getting the material from the company itself and it may stop when interest in it wanes or they just decide to move on to another project.

MMORPGs are the closest you can get to a never-ending game because you can still do things in-game or with friends that'll give you a sense of accomplishment, and the expansions would give you even more stuff to accomplish.

Anyway, as long as a game still gets fresh ideas that are turned into something enjoyable for fans, it can be considered a "never-ending" type of game. Starcraft, Warcraft III, and Neverwinter Nights are all examples of this. Modded games are also the same.

Regarding the OP's idea for a "never-ending" game though, it's already been done and that's not really a never ending game. It's just a series.

And yes, I'm pretty much repeating stuff, but that's only to drive the point home.:P
