Unfortunately, I believe 4Kids still holds the rights until 2009. However, given their recent financial troubles, who knows how long they'll actually hold out. Hopefully sooner or later, Viz or Funimation can get their hands on Naruto.

FUnimation's good too. Although don't expect to see a new dub for a while, as the OP name is quite tarnished in the US. No matter how good the new dub will be, it would be foolish to start it early as it would suffer the same fate as the old dub. So most likely they will wait a year or 2 then try again. Either Viz or Funi is fine.

...But I doubt it'd get picked up again. Sad. A new dub would mean the dubbers would have to start at episode 1 for a series with close to 400 episodes. They'd have to skip a LOT - well, that's what filler is for, but meh - and it'd be expensive if it didn't get ratings. Also, One Piece's early episodes weren't really all that fantastic, esp. animation wise. D:

Starting over is obviously the most favorable choice, but who would watch it if it's restarted, sub fans aside? Continuing on would mean plotholes from the skipping of Little Garden. And what'll happen with Zoro and Smoker's names?

Subbed DVDs are really the only hope here.

Well, this pretty much just killed my high :(. The sad thing is, you're most likely right.

But still, I'm holding on to my hope that this'll be another DBZ situation. I pray that someone from Viz picks up on how good this series is, and how much we all want it to be faithfully dubbed.

It was going to happen sometime or later since the fanbase for One Piece was really low. I used to watch it like everyday when it came on at 10p.m but now I just watch the japenese version. I think when it began it was pretty popular.
Well the fanbase was good enough, from what I recall, the Toonami ratings were appearantly very good.

Though if 4kids did indeed drop it, there are much better dubbers than Viz... I'm surprised people consider them good in terms of anime (though I'd say they do a very good job with manga). Though I suppose their job with Inuyasha and Naruto aren't that bad, other series not so much. Genon and ADV do a good job more consistently, and I'd say even Funimation would be good enough. Though just because they aren't dubbing it, doesn't mean another company can pick it up.

Yeah, that's my main cuase of concern. I'm worried that because One Piece failed with 4Kids, Viz, Toei and everyone else will think the anime is a failure when it comes to the American audience. But I'm still prayin that Viz will realize its potential and pick it up :wtf.

I actually liked Saban's dub though. Especially for the first 3 movies. Only problem was the heavy editing for the fight scenes, and the music changes.

But Funimation replaced the music with much crappier music, and changed the dialogue to make it cheesier. They did leave in the violence however. And Funi has gotten alot better since then, they no longer do that type of thing with other series, so I wouldnt mind them getting OP.
Viz would be perfect too.

I can't say I'm very optimistic about other companies picking it up any time soon, though. 4kids may not be ready to sell the license - and even if they are, possibly nobody else wants to pay for it now. They own the license until 2009, I think.

Well, 4kids DID finish dubbung Alabasta, the end just didn't air in the US. They didn't spare kids from spoilers with the release of the games which have Robin as a member. And Japan spoiled all non-manga readers by having Robin in the opening song before she joined the crew :wink

Kappei Yamaguchi does a great job as Usopp most of the time. He just overacts sometimes.
But at least he can act. :P Jason Griffith just warbles. I've never heard a shred of real emotion in his delivery, ever. I can't stand it. I even can tolerate David Moo's Sanji more.

Heh, I had this dream last night that Shanks' dub voice changed. That would only happen if some other company does start dubbing One Piece though. XD

The second person talking is Yasopp. I don't remember if the third guy is Ben Beckman or Luck Reux, I don't remember the visuals.

If this is true then I hope another company picks it up. One Piece anime shouldn't be lost to the U.S. just because 4Kids killed it. At least we won't have to see anymore of those crappy dub episodes and it's horrific puns.

This may sound goofy of me, but i decided to wander round their god forsaken forums and to my surprise; they've just removed their One Piece forums and any advertising of it on their site. So apart from their initial minor section, One Piece is gone from 4kids; is this a real moment to celebrate their surrender?

I mean i know about their halted production and all, but it looks like they're also beginning to erase their traces of ever dubbing it..like that'll do much :notrust

Nope. The episodes they're showing were already produced a long time ago and aired in the UK. There are no more new episodes being produced by 4kids.
