Godsmack and System of a Down are basically the same type of music, alternative metal. Both are different because Godsmack is more about personal feeling and human nature, while System of a Down is pretty much an anti political band except in a few songs. I'm a fan of both bands. Which one is better in your opinion? This is mine.
Singers-Sully Erna vs. Serj Tankien
Winner: It's a tie
Why: Because both singers are singing in the same genre but are both better at singing on what their bands are more oriented to. Could you seriously imagine Serj singing Godsmack's hit song Voodoo, or Sully singing B.Y.O.B? No I don't think so both would sound crappy. Since they are both in subgenres of a genre they both are phenominal in those genres so you can't say one is better then the other.
Guitarists-Tony Rambola vs. Darren Malakian
Winner: Darren Malakian
Why: Because System is so guitar oriented. Sure Malakian doesn' play solos, which is all Tony plays, but Tony's solos are not that good. Darren's guitars are some of the best guitar I've ever heard. If it wasn't for the fact that they slowed down recently I'd say that earlier system of a down, pre Mesmerize ablums like Toxicity and Steal this Album are almost thrash metal. So one for System.
Bassists-Robbie Merrill vs. Shavo Odajian
Winner: Robbie Merill
Why: While System is so guitar orieinted, Godsmack is a rare band in the sense that they are very bass oriented. A lot of Godsmack that you hear during the songs is not guitar, it's bass only during their first album did you hear a lot of guitar. This means they have to have very good bass lines . System of a Down bass parts are pretty easy for the most part, me giving them about a 3 on difficulty level. Godsmack bass lines are pretty tricky, getting about a 7.5. Robbie may not be the next Alex Webster (bassist of Cannibal Corpse and currently the best living bassist at finger style), but he's a better bassist then Chavo.
Drummers-John Dolayman vs. Shannon Larkin
Winner-John Dolayman
Why: While Darren may have slowed down on guitars, John kept up the beat keeping System's drum style at that of thrash metal. While the band may have gone from heavy metal to more hard rock now, John is still a great drummer. I almost feel bad that he's in System, because he sometimes deserves to be in a band where his talents can be put to full use. Shannon is not Godsmack's first drummer, actually he is their third. Although he isn't a bad drummer he's not as fast as John, so John gets this one.
This is my opinion now what about yours?
