You're added. Here is some old threads on Asuma and Sarutobi. I personally think that we can't be sure. Sandaime was always refered to as Sarutobi, but it might have been because he is such an authority they refer to him by his surname. Like students do to their teachers/proffessors. We don't have enough to be able to think one way or the other. The best evidence is that Asuma is so awesome and well rounded, like Samdaime. Sandaime probably had all 5s for stats when he was younger, only Asuma is close to that well roundedness.

One thing I noticed while updating it was that he used to have a 4.5 nin and 4.0 tai. He has not done a single jutsu yet, and he still kicked ass. He definitly needs more respect.

I've also been rooting for a Asuma/Kisame rematch, because Asuma didn't do much else except dodge/block Kisame's attacks and get him set up for Kurenai's genjutsu. I really want to see just how good he is. I would be in favor of Asuma just showing up out of nowhere to save Team Gai like he saved Shikamaru from the Sound nin (although I don't think Team Gai will be needing any rescue). Hell, if Gai can do more than one "dynamic entry" or "nice guy" pose, why not let Asuma make another unexpected appearance?

Now that I think about it, I the only official dynamic entry I remember Gai did was when he booted Jiraya in the face...someone know of any other? But I guess you can say Gai's entries are all dynamic, that's just the way he is.

I would disagree. Read this thread (http://forums.narutofan.com/showthread.php?t=9423&highlight=asuma+sarutobis) if you haven't already. There are others specifically addressing the question of "is Sarutobi Asuma related to Sandaime?"

I think it is impossible for Sandaime and Asuma to even be related. Sarutobi is Asuma's last (family) name, whereas we are led to believe that Sarutobi is Sandaime's first name. Biggest evidence is that Shodaime/Nidaime call him "Saru" or "Sarutobi" (they would not call him by his last name) and the Sannin call him "Sarutobi-sensei" like the rookie teams call their sensei by their first names ("Asuma-sensei, Kakashi-sensei, Gai-sensei, Kurenai-sensei, Iruka-sensei"). So in order for the two to be related, Sandaime's name would have to be Sarutobi Sarutobi. Which is the dumbest idea ever.

Also, if he was related to Sandaime, I'm certain we would have learned more about it. Sandaime was a pretty important character to the series, and Konohamaru (despite how annoying some people think he is) had his time in the spotlight too. I don't think Kishi would have done all of that and just let Asuma slip past without any mention of his relation to the Hokage. Even at the funeral, Asuma was just another jounin paying his respects; if he was an adult descendant of the deceased, I'm sure he would have had a more prominent role in the ceremony. In general, my assumption is that if Asuma was related to Sandaime, somebody would have said something about it by now.

The third was a genius nin as well as a well rounded nin, can we say any less of Sarutobi Asuma?!? And you know what, as longa as the mangaka hasn't written it, it hasn't been written (bring it? consider it broughten!! :P ).

Until proven otherwise, I will consider Asuma the heir (one of many) to the title of Hokage! :nod:

I just think it's stupid that they gave him the same name as the third AND made him look like him but never gave any information as to their relationship. So I go under the assumption that the similarities are there for a reason rather than just a coincidence. It doesn't really matter either way but I hope it's a part of a future plot (just like how they have never revealed the name of the fourth hokage.)

You know another thing that's cool? Asuma is the only guy in the series who can pull off wearing bracelets without his masculinity being called into question. He's just too cool for that. As someone interested in cultural anthropology, I've already stated in a couple of places (latest Sandaime/Asuma merged thread and here) about historical naming practices and why their possible relationship shouldn't be dismissed out of hand just because of the names... So I'm not going into it again. But consider that Kishimoto intended for this to be a VERY long term project. Roumor has it he intends on taking Naruto to the second generation. That means it's a good idea not to reveal everyone's backstories in the first few years. Gives us more time for side arcs and flashbacks where they're more dramatic and meaningful later. I figure, one way or another, someday we'll find out just why Asuma and Sandaime have so much in common. Whether they turn out related by blood, or by deed. No matter what, I expect a surprise twist. ;-)

Yeah, Asuma's stat chart in the databooks is VERY impressive. He's right up there with Gai and Kakashi, so I hope that we'll get more Asuma exposure sometime in the (near) future.

I myself didn't pick up any signs from manga reading that would indicate an expansion of Asuma's character in the manga storyline, but skmt999 has some pretty good points about the future of the series. This is the first I've heard of second-generation Naruto, but if that is indeed the case, then there's plenty of room for Asuma to be developed as a character. And Kishi should do that. Because Asuma is just too badass.

Now that the sub is out, I'm going to watch carefully for hints that would indicate what Naruto is seeing is not real. Since Naruto is kind of a dunce when it comes to genjutsus, I'm assuming (for the health and safety of the anime team) that this is just another example of how he can't handle genjutsus pre-Jiraiya apprenticeship.

Seriously, if Asuma and Kurenai did go down, the anime team needs to be physically harmed for their crimes. I doubt the anime team would do something so rash as allowing the genin Ino-Shika-Cho team to beat the people who bested their sensei, but then again, there was Aoi. And the "rapist Sakura" look that has been appearing in sigs and parodies all across these forums.*Sigh* Guess we just have to get the shotguns ready...

I hope Shikamaru gets stuck in an impossible situation again. Not because I dislike him, but I want an excuse for Asuma to come flying out the the trees, chakra blades in hand. But now that Ino-Shika-Cho is here, I figure that Asuma has to make at least one more appearance in the filler, and it's probably going to be him fulfilling his most important duty as a sensei. Which is treating his students to bbq.

Well I believe the title of the first gallery ("オリジナル") translates to "ORIGINAL," so my guess is that they are original works...

I've never seen those characters anywhere before either...

Nope, half Korean, half White... However, you can pretty much call me one since my best friends are ALL Filipino for some reason. I've become their cousin and have been around their families for so long now, I might as well be one :P

Bippity-boppity bump! A new member! Sorry for the inactivity, NF browsing at work kind of has to stay under the radar. But it's my bosses' (sadly, I have more than one) fault for giving me my own office with a T1.

I feel sad that we will probably not see Asuma again for a long, long-ass time. In mourning, I could piece together all the footage of Asuma in the animated series so far (with the exception of him lying on the ground, "beaten" by the inmates)...but I'll have to feel a bit less lazy first.

Very kewl! As good as the recent discoveries of Asuma fanart has been, I think they take the "Sarutobi" a bit far sometimes and make him to hulking and apeish. However, this ^^ is very nice. Well done!

The main reason I like Asuma is because he reminds me of a young William Petersen, but he also just has that coolness factor to him. I love his laid-back attitude and oh he's just the hottest character in Naruto. ^_^ Thanx for adding me.
