I like the "Top Ramen" chicken and vegetables flavor. Or just the vegetables flavor period. The shrimp flavor is ok, but I add a bunch of my own seasonings into that mix so it'll taste better to me.

The US instant Ramen Mixes are really, really cheap. They taste like regular soup though if you get certain flavors. But you can add your own ingredients to spice up the flavors (like in naruto with the lobster, onions and other vegetables). US ramen just comes with a small packet of seasoning. I really wish there was an authentic Ramen shop around my town. that would be heaven.

Granted, cooked ramen does taste better...I collect random flavors of ramen. My current "most exotic" flavor is Lime Shrimp. As I am a college student, I have a particular aversion to chicken ramen (which is given away free here on campus). Beef ramen is highly interesting...I put tomato paste in it for a change.
Creamy chicken anyone? I am too afriad to try it.
I LOVE MISO.

I'm afraid I have become rather traditional with this. Chicken has won it's place as my favorite.

And all the rest are just...blah...whatever.

Does Yaki soba count? Or maybe Nabeyaki udon. I love just about any Udon or Soba that I can get my hands on, and Yes Even cold soba... It tastes weird at first but you grow to love it. As for american Ramen... Id have to say Beef in the squared packs or Shrimp in the cup soups. But I would have to agree that making your own noodles (I make soba and Udon at my house all the time!) is the most rewarding and cheapest of the bunch.
Psychoku

I have a big book of Japanese cooking. (I use to be a proffessional Chef at a japanese resturant) so I usually cook stuff out of it, but as of late havent been able to do so. Yes they do, it just depends where you look. I get mine from the Oriental Shopping City in North London. You can definitely find it in China Town somewhere/everywhere.
It's basically a square (or circle) of dry noodles and one to three packets of "stuff" (powder, flaky bits, oil, whatever). You boil some water, put the noodles and stuff in and leave for about 3 minutes. It's kind of like soup with noodles in.
And I've changed my mind. Nong Shim is my favourite brand now, not Nissin.

For the quick-made stuff you can cook it without adding the flavour, then drain the noodles and add in the flavour afterward.
Have you also tried stir-fry? It takes some practice to perfect a great stir-fry, but it's worth it in the end.
Try japanesefood.about.com (http://japanesefood.about.com/cs/noodles/a/ramen.htm) to learn how to prepare nearly every kind of Japanese dish, I gave you a direct link for ramen.

The ramen you see them eating at the shops is fresh made ramen XD
Hmm....
Well..
If you want the soup type ramen...
I take some green onions and toss them in...
Followed by cracking an egg and letting it cook in the ramen.
Then put some flavoring/spice... like hot spice on top of it all.
Stir, put some rice in. Slice a few cucumbers. Any left over beef..
cut that up into slices. Turn off stove, and toss into bowl.
Grab the chopsticks and eat.
co_co_the_monkey
10-10-2004, 12:07 AM
add to noodles only(no powder):
2 table spoons of curry power
1 tea spoon of hot peeper (the pizza topping stuff)
a few drops of some tabasco sauce
2 slices of american cheese
let it boil a little bit so it can blend in.
now, its gonna be very hot, but very good.

At last a voice of sanity, Ryan. I'm lucky to have two Ramen shops within a few miles of my house. One serves Tokushima style, their best is the Niku-Iri ramen. The other is kind of a neo-cali-fusion ramen place, so they do a lot of variations. For the fall equinox they did a ramen with japanese pumpkin in it. Pretty strange, but very savoury.
For you ramen fans, I can't recommend trying real fresh ramen seriously enough. Check out the World Ramen site to see if there's a ramen shop near you, at http://www.worldramen.net/index.html.
