Pfft. I don't think Sephiroth stands a chance against someone who's a half demon son of the most powerful demon ever, someone with such speed that his Trickster far surpasses Dante, his long-ranged Yamatou attacks, his sword bullet...things, and he has such sword skills. And this is just Vergil in his BASE form. Sorry Sephiroth, but there's a new villain in town, and his name is Vergil Sparda.
Edit: If you give Vergil the ability to use Beowulf's gauntlets, then Sephiroth has no chance in Hell against someone like Vergil.

Ah, but Sephiroth can fly, his sword cuts a lot longer than it has any right to (watch AC, his sword makes cuts way beyond it's range), he has random magic abilities, plus he's strong enough to cut through skyscrapers with his sword.
But in the end he got beaten by an emo nutcase, while Vergil had to be defeated by the badass Dante. So Vergil wins.

Flying means shit to Vergil. He still has long-range attack to tire out Seph if that thing you can call a wing can tire out. To counter flying, Vergil would probably have to go DT or maybe even Super DT to use that attack where he dissapears and all those purple slashing orbs come either in the direction of the enemy or just randomly, both can pretty much still damage you badly, especially in Hard mode and Dante Must Die. Overall, I think Vergil could win without even thinking of having to use DT.
P.S. Just to let you know, if he is able to equip Beowulf's gauntlets, he can jump in the air and use a Bee Sting (At least I think that's what it's called) and it can home in on the enemy and still make him fly backwards, so flying for Sephiroth won't really help him in either situation.

Actually, he doesn't need his wing to fly. That was true both in the game and the movie. And the reason I mentioned flying was because he could fly out of Vergil's effective range (I don't mean out of range entirely, just enough so that it's hard to hit him), then cast magic on the area.

Since we're talking about Vergil, who, I think, is smarter than Dante, isn't stupid enough to just let someone to fly out of his range like that and let Sephiroth bash him weith magic. Vergil has a stronger version of the Trickster, where he can run at even longer distances without breaking a sweat. Call it anaebolic running, if you will. It's also going to be quite arduous for Sephiroth to hit Vegil with magic if he keeps running about. Once he gets close to Sephiroth, he'll either "blow" his head off with Beowulf or just hack and slash without hesitation. Even if he does get hit, he and Dante are also known to regenerate rapidly, and even moreso in their Devil formsm so I don't think magic would be effective much to him even if he did get hit.

If we're going by game rules, then magic is autohit for Sephiroth. Magic ALWAYS hits in FF7, it's just that it might not do anything to the target (excluding Death and Gravity).

But as I stated earlier, even if it autohits, which in the DMC series Vergil isn't easy to hit, he'll probably just make use of the time to go Devil Trigger and attack Sephiroth as his health begins to rapidly regain back to normal.

Anything from Devil May Cry loses because those games stories suck worse than Naruto filler episodes.
The gameplay on the other hand is top notch.

Are you fucking kidding me? I admit, DMC2 was shitty, but how can you diss DMC1 and 3!? they were THE best Capcom ever made. I doubt some psychotic one-winged creep with a long-bladed katana who got his ass owned by a spikey-haired emo with co. could beat someone with cush calm, quiet and yet fiercely skilled warrior such as Vergil (No offense to any FF7 fanboys out there though). But I really just don't see Sephiroth winning, unless there were to be handicaps which would restrict Vergil from going DT. The stories are just incredible too. I don't think you've EVER played DMC1 and 3 to fully understand the plot in the game.

..That's like trying to say D' Alundar was fun...which it wasn't. The gameplay was severely crippled, the plot was just...shitty, the bosses were WAY too easy (except those three heads) and how stale and dull the storyline was.
