What is your opinion on who would win in an awesome ninja showdown between Kakashi and Gai?:P I believe that it would be Gai as the victor! Gai-sensei said himself that their battle scores were 50-49, him winning! Taijutsu is power!

Kakashi will beat up Gai for sure. It would be better this was topic was posted in the jap manga section because i could back up my claim. Nevertheless Kakashi rocks.

Has it actually been used in the series yet (I don't think so), you spoiler!
No, -character not mentioned in the dub yet- is much better (a move in Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 3 and 4. I think it's up B)!
Or Narutimate Entry for Naruto: Narutimate Hero 2 and 3! XD

thats a tough question to answer, especially judging from the point in which the shows have been translated. gai hasnt really shown much of his strength.
now, in most generic "contests" the have, they are almost tied (at the point the american version is, i believe gai is winning with 50 to 49). but if they were to seriously fight each other, it would be a difficult choice to make. id prefer kakashi, of course, but i really feel that they would, in fact, be tied.

It would be a good fight. I think Kakashi would win though. Kakashi never seems like he wants to compete with Gai. To him it's a waste of time. I've never seen a serious battle between the two but I think if Kakashi got serious he would win. He is the copy ninja.

Ew. I'd rather do Gai than Kakashi anyday. Gai is original, hygenic, sexy, and more passionate. Gai ftw.
He's also not legendary because he doesn't copy everyone's moves. Plus, Kakashi had a legendary father. So he's legendary by default.

And Lee's speed proved to be such a great thing against Gaara, who's slow as heck because of the heavy gourd on his back.
Speed does not equate auto-win in Narutoverse (or in real life either).

And Lee's speed proved to be such a great thing against Gaara, who's slow as heck because of the heavy gourd on his back.
Speed does not equate auto-win in Narutoverse (or in real life either).
That's a bit different. Gaara's defensive techniques make him naturally strong against taijutsu. Lee ended up against the worst possible opponent for a taijutsu specialist.

As expected, Kakashi's being overestimated and Gai's being underestimated.
Gai knows what the Sharingan can do, so he's not going to be fooled like Zabuza was the first time. Gai focuses on taijutsu, but he's not limited to it like Lee. Even if Kakashi can see the taijutsu, it doesn't mean he can match and counter, like how Sasuke couldn't the first time he fought Lee. Kakashi's best bet is probably ninjutsu and genjutsu, but we know how much strain the Sharingan puts on him because he's not an Uchiha, so we know that he can't last very long using the Sharingan and has to watch his chakra use. Gai on the other hand probably has a lot of endurance.
It comes down to whether Kakashi has a ninjutsu or genjutsu that can counter or defend against Gai's taijutsu and whether Gai can counter or endure Kakashi's ninjutsu or genjutsu. Result: unknown. Gai's not definitely going to win, but neither is Kakashi.

I'd have to say Kakashi, cause even with Gai knowing how the sharingan works and how to counter some of its properties, Kakashi after being around Gai must know some tricks to counter Gais fighting style. That and you still have the sharingans ability to predict movement. I'm not saying that it would be an easy fight or anything, this is one of the fights that can easily go anyway, but I just think that Kakashi has a little bit of an advantage in this fight.

gai does have the speed but he really can't due ninjutsu or genjutsu really well like kakashi can. plus kakashi does have the sharingan and could predict anything. also being rivals for 21 years most likely they know eachothers moves. it will be hard for them to take eachother down, but it will be really fun to watch. But i think kakashi will beat gai hands down!!!
Kakashi would dominate Gai for a number of reasons, most notably his justu superiority.

No it wasn't. Kakashi doesn't even acknowledge Gai as a rival, if they had ever sparred maybe he would. It's purely a one sided rivalry like Lee and Neji.

How was he planning on killing him with one arm? He used the prison so he could kill the kids first (With the kids dead (and his mission dead) he had a much better chance to win (and he completed his mission, so he could run away). If he didn't have a plan after he killed the kids and the old man, he would've been dead and he probably knew that. It's a pretty safe bet that he would've had a way to deal with Kakashi even one-handed, especially since he can create Water Clones with one hand.
And how would Gai have done against Zabuza? In fact Gai would've been killed even quicker. Unlike Kakashi he has no means of find Zabuza through the mist.We wouldn't know. Do we know what his summoned turtle can do? Do we really know how quick his reactions are? Do we know how well he can sense things? No. No. No. Gai would've been killed quicker is not a fact at all.
No it wasn't. Kakashi doesn't even acknowledge Gai as a rival, if they had ever sparred maybe he would. It's purely a one sided rivalry like Lee and Neji.Watch the episode where we find out more about their competitions and tell me what Gai asks Kakashi. I believe that's where the 100m sprint thing came from in the first place. If that were an indication of previous challenges, then they might have sparred before. Kakashi not taking it seriously has been an overused excuse. I don't believe we were ever even told that by Kakashi; it's only an assumption because he chose Janken. We don't know if Kakashi really tried in any of the other challenges that Gai chose, which were more than likely physical challenges. We don't even know if Gai won all/most of those either, so we couldn't say definitely either way.

It's interesting that you completely disrergard the fact that he had to protect 4 people. After the first Water Clone, the other 4 didn't matter; Zabuza just used them as bait to get the fight started. Even if they weren't there, I'm sure Zabuza could've come up with something else or he might have been able to do the same without any bait at all.
So, in theory if you could beat Mike Tyson in a 100m sprint, you'd beat him in a fight?

Oh, so we should assume that he would have performed better than Kakashi? Because that is what you implied in your post.
Watch the episode where we find out more about their competitions and tell me what Gai asks Kakashi. I believe that's where the 100m sprint thing came from in the first place. So if we don't anything why are you even using it as an example? The fact that Kakashi is the world famous technique specialist from Konoha, should tell you how strong he is. The fact that Gai is obsessed with Kakashi is only evidence of his infatuation not his strength.
After the first Water Clone, the other 4 didn't matter; Zabuza just used them as bait to get the fight started. Even if they weren't there, I'm sure Zabuza could've come up with something else or he might have been able to do the same without any bait at all.

The fact that Gai is obsessed with Kakashi is only evidence of his infatuation not his strength.Look at the posts I was replying to and even the last part of this quote. People are saying it's textbook because Kakashi copied 1000 jutsu, has the Sharingan, has the Chidori, etc. and Gai is silly and fast and strong. Kakashi vs. Zabuza should have also been textbook, but Zabuza gained the upperhand anyway. That's why I used Zabuza as an example. Yes and that would be a baseless assumption. Considering zabuza first tried to attack Tazuna, should telly you that things would be differant if they were fighting one on one.It wouldn't be baseless at all. Even though Zabuza "tried" to attack Tazuna, Kakashi didn't have to stop any jutsu he was trying to execute and he didn't get hurt trying to protect the others. If it were just Kakashi sans others, he would've been on the defensive after Mist Concealment, Zabuza would probably still use Water Clones, Kakashi would probably still get tricked by the second Water Clone trick, etc. I fail to see how Team 7 and/or Tazuna made Kakashi get tricked by the second Water Clone or kicked in the water or get trapped in the Water Prison.

I didn't intend to if I did. I was only trying to make it clear that you can't say Gai would've been killed quickly "in fact" when it's not a fact at all.
It is "fact" because judging from there abilties that we have seen Gai has no means of countering Zabuza's jutsus. His speed and strength are meaningless when fighting someone who relies on concealment.
Look at the posts I was replying to and even the last part of this quote. Since when is fighting an S class missing nin textbook? You make it seem as if Zabuza was weak and Kakashi is weak therefore for being captured. They were both obviosuly on the same level of strength. Having 1000 jutsus makes you strong, getting caught by Zabuza doesn't make you weak. Especially when you have no evidence that Gai would fare any better.

You fail to see how having to be aware of 3 genins and a civilian with a contract on his head, would figure into a fight? Whether Zabuza succeeded in attacking Tazuna isn't the issue, the fact that he even attempted it completely invalidates your argument.

That's a tough one. I like them both and they seem like most powerful of all Jounins. Still, I would bet on Gai :) Too bad I haven't seen him using any ninjutsu. Does he even use any (I don't read the manga)? Anyway, his taijutsu should be superior to Kakashi's (if he can see it with his sharingan, his body might not be able to move that fast) besides, he can open the chakra gates. Even if he doesn't have any "massive" ninjutsu, taijutsu is always good in 1 vs 1 :wink
I say that because Akatsuki members seemed to hold his power in high esteem and he was even ready to fight just with looking at their feet. That's Gai for you :leepose
About Gai vs Kakashi competition: even if Kakashi doesn't take it seriously, it doesn't mean that he thinks Gai is too weak to be his oponent. Kakashi doesn't want to loose his style :P Naruto is loud too, do we like him less because of that?
I like Kakashi a lot too, they are both my favorite characters.

Gai would. He's stronger than Kakashi, he can do ninjutsu and he's faster. He's already winning. And anyone who thinks Kakashi will win with his sharingan obviously doesn't know much about Naruto, in general. It's been said, multiple times SHARINGAN SEES THROUGH NINJUTSU AND GENJUTSU, BUT NOT TAIJUTSU, which Gai is going to mainly use. The sharingan is a disadvantage.

Gai would. He's stronger than Kakashi, he can do ninjutsu and he's faster.
Gai is physically stronger then Kakashi and so what if he's faster? With the sharingan he can follow all of his movements.
He's already winning.
Winning what? those competitions that Kakashi doesn't care about? Congratulations.
Perhaps you should read or rewatch Naruto so that you may better understand it. The sharingan can see through all jutsus, even taijutsu. If not, then how do you explain Sasuke copying Lee's jutsus?
starblade876
12-23-2006, 05:53 AM
It is "fact" because judging from there abilties that we have seen Gai has no means of countering Zabuza's jutsus. His speed and strength are meaningless when fighting someone who relies on concealment.Do we really need to look at the definition of the word "fact"? No offense, but that last sentence just seems ignorant. Speed almost always has meaning even if the meaning is running away or running to a better playing field (e.g. away from a large body of water).
Especially when you have no evidence that Gai would fare any better.Seriously? Do you really just not get it? Despite Zabuza's "S-class missing nin" title, on paper, Kakashi just looks better. Assuming they're about equal in speed, strength, chakra, intelligence, cleverness, and techniques, Kakashi has the Sharingan and Zabuza has his Zanbatō. Zanbatō >= Sharingan?
Does that mean that I think Zabuza's weak? I neither state nor imply that. Does that mean that I think Kakashi's weak because he got caught by Zabuza? I neither state nor imply that. So, what's the point I was trying to get across that I thought was obvious? Scant observations and technical statistics don't mean everything. Gai does NOT definitely lose to either Zabuza or Kakashi.
You fail to see how having to be aware of 3 genins and a civilian with a contract on his head, would figure into a fight? Whether Zabuza succeeded in attacking Tazuna isn't the issue, the fact that he even attempted it completely invalidates your argument. The logic doesn't follow at all. Kakashi thought he had checkmate at the second Water Clone trick. He wasn't concerned for the others' safety at that point because he thought he had Zabuza. For things to end up similar, Zabuza only has to get Kakashi to think he has Zabuza after the first Water Clone trick. If you don't agree, I can only guess that you don't remember how it all went down and that you won't try to see it again or that you're not even trying to think. 12-23-2006, 02:38 PM
Do we really need to look at the definition of the word "fact"? No offense, but that last sentence just seems ignorant. Speed almost always has meaning even if the meaning is running away or running to a better playing field (e.g. away from a large body of water).
A large body of water isn't necessary to create chakra enhanced mist. As long as there is moisture there can be mist so your argument falters. Speed isn't meaningless your right, it justs means less in this instance. Theoretically speaking, Gai's speed won't help him see any better. Nor would speed factor into dodging an attack he isn't even aware of. Zabuza can silence his whole body and find his opponents through sound alone. Gai can't.
Seriously? Do you really just not get it? Despite Zabuza's "S-class missing nin" title, on paper, Kakashi just looks better. Assuming they're about equal in speed, strength, chakra, intelligence, cleverness, and techniques, Kakashi has the Sharingan and Zabuza has his Zanbat?. Zanbat? >= Sharingan?
Does that mean that I think Zabuza's weak? I neither state nor imply that. Does that mean that I think Kakashi's weak because he got caught by Zabuza? I neither state nor imply that. So, what's the point I was trying to get across that I thought was obvious? Scant observations and technical statistics don't mean everything. Gai does NOT definitely lose to either Zabuza or Kakashi.
I could careless how Kakashi "looks". He beat Zabuza, but not with ease. Therefore, Kakashi may indeed be stronger then him but the gap between the two isn't large at all. As for Gai, we deal with what we know. You brought up Zabuza, which was your mistake.
If it's either of those, there's no point in trying to talk about that subject further.
I don't remember how it went down or i'm just ignoring the situation? I'm well aware of what happened and it is a perfect example of your ignorance(intended or unintended) that you would suggest that. You can't even see past your own argument. How could the fight between the two be the same had Kakashi not been protecting his teamates, when Zabuza directy attacked his teamates? It is categorically incorrect and you would have to be blind not to see it.
Anyhow, theres no need for me to shoot more holes in your argument, not when your doing it for me. Enjoy the rest of the show/manga.

Nor would speed factor into dodging an attack he isn't even aware of. Zabuza can silence his whole body and find his opponents through sound alone. Gai can't.I'm fairly certain it should be safe to assume that it'd take a longer time for Mist Concealment to finish if it's away from a large body of water. During that time, it would seem odd for someone to wait. I'm also fairly certain it's safe to assume that a drop of water isn't going to create mist as thick as what we saw. Even regardless of all that, your argument jumps the gun by assuming Gai's senses and reactions. If you've seen an instance or instances that proves your point and it's a spoiler, feel free to PM it to me. Otherwise, if you don't know for a fact and have no reason to really come to a conclusion, don't treat it as fact.
I could careless how Kakashi "looks". He beat Zabuza, but not with ease. Therefore, Kakashi may indeed be stronger then him but the gap between the two isn't large at all. As for Gai, we deal with what we know. You brought up Zabuza, which was your mistake.Again, you seem to miss the point entirely. I didn't make any mistake in bringing Zabuza up because it was a classic example of how you can't conclude the result of a fight just on a little bit of observation and a little data. With Gai, even if we only know a little about him, there's no logical reason at all to conclude that he would lose to either of them because we don't know what he can do. It'd be like saying, "Since we don't know who Kisame is yet, Tenten would kill him easily."
I don't remember how it went down or i'm just ignoring the situation? Anyhow, theres no need for me to shoot more holes in your argument, not when your doing it for me. Enjoy the rest of the show/manga.I said it could end up the same (i.e. Kakashi in the Water Prison). I already explained it. If anything, Team 7 and Tazuna should have made Kakashi even more careful about Zabuza. That is unless we're going with the whole idea of him having stage fright and being unable to perform well in a crowd. Of course, that would be a baseless assumption.

Well, when Rock Lee fought Sasuke, Lee won, so I think Gai would win since he is much more fast and powerful then Lee.
It's like another Sasuke and Lee fight, except with older Jounin's. That's all it is. Gai said in one the episode to know how to avoid the Sharigan when he was fighting Itachi. Gai obviously knows how to avoid Kakashi's since he goes up against him so often.
That 50-49 thing was different trivial games, not just battles. Gai said that he has won against Kakashi before when he met Sasuke, Sakura and Naruto for the first time.

Kakashi has Sharingan which he can use to whip up awesome jutsu, but using it too much will tire him out. Gai has speed, but Kakashi has many tricks up his sleeve, and I am sure he could find a way to counter Gai's speed. A battle between them could go either way, but I think that they would end in a draw.
Hmm...
Hatake Kakashi's advantages
Ninjutsu: 5
Genjutsu: 4.5
Intelligence: 5
Seal Knowledge: 5
Trump Card: Sharingan
Kakashi is more well-balanced than Gai; the only attributes he's lacking in are force and stamina.
Maito Gai's advantages
Taijutsu: 5
Force: 5
Speed: 5
Stamina: 5
Trump Card: Hachimon (Eight Gates)
While Gai's aforementioned attributes are of the highest degree, his: ninjutsu, genjutsu, seal knowledge, and tactics are sorely lacking.
I have no idea who'll win; they're two completely different shinobi who complement each other.

Wow, I reckon this one is super close and you can easily argue for both sides. If Gai starts using Hachimon then I reckon Kakashi will be in for a tough time... but Kakashi is so wiley he could trap Gai with a cunning plan. I reckon if Gai really wanted to win he should either distract Kakashi with a IchaIcha Paradise book and go in for the win.
This is all speculation of Course but one thing I know for sure: MOUSTACHE GAI WILL WIN EVERY TIME NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!!!!

Gai sensei if he opens up all 8 gates and uses his anti sharingan techniques.
Yeah, that would be reeeeal smart. If he opens the eight and final gate he would die:P
Though i do not doubt that it would be a rather even fight, i still think that Kakashi would win.
I mean, If Gai opens up 7 of the 8 gates, Kakashi would be in real trouble.
(I am considering that this would be a battle of life and death) But Kakashi still has his Sharingan, and he is so much smarter. I'm sure he would be able to figure out a smart strategy to beat Gai, but it would be one of the most even battles of all time:nuts

What is your opinion on who would win in an awesome ninja showdown between Kakashi and Gai?:P I believe that it would be Gai as the victor! Gai-sensei said himself that their battle scores were 50-49, him winning! Taijutsu is power!Taijutsu will only get him so far. Look at Lee. He has zero talent with jutsu's, but is extremely talented with taijutsu. That'll always be his down fall.
Anyway, it can go either way. Gai knows how to fight against a Sharingan user like Kakashi, and I'm pretty sure that Gai's taijutsu style is far superior to Kakashi's. We've not really seen Gai use any ninjitsu moves, though. This fight would be like watching Sasuke fight Lee almost. Kakashi doesn't have much stamina, and his Sharingan would be virtually useless against Gai. He also knows 1000 jutsu's, which I'm sure would come in handy somehow. Kakashi has his Chidori, which, honestly, I think Gai would easily avoid. Well, unless he goes all Zabuza on Gai. And Gai could open up a few gates and wipe the floor with Kakashi with brute strength and lightning speed.
I guess, Gai would take it.
Darkened_Uchihaz
03-13-2007, 09:58 PM
It'd be a close one, I suppose. Of course, Gai is too enthusiastic and confident about his abilities. That just may be his undoing when fighting Kakashi. Kakashi is cool and collected, and is even considered a genius in the Hidden Leaf Village. However, his lack of interest might cause him to forfeit and give Gai the satisfaction of winning. Gai would be too proud to take that kind of victory and force Kakashi to fight for real. Then they'd get more serious and have an intense battle.
If it was anything like Sasuke and Lee's first battle, I'd seriously be disappointed...

when people refer to to the standings between kakashi and Gai at 50-49 in Gai's favour, remember this is a contolled environment and also the fact that they are friends (kind of) plays into it all. Kakashi would win because in an open environment match up where anything goes Kakashi would anihilate Gai.
Don't forget kakashi's sharingan and that also Gai's opening of the gates takes time. Kakashi would be able to exploit this the first chance he gets.

I know you can make all the reasons you want for both sides, but there is no way of knowing since they are too even. Gai was winning in their record until the rock-paper-scissors thing tied them up. If I had to pick one, I think it would be Gai if he went all out. But if it was just a normal, "friendly" fight, then maybe Kakashi since he has Sharingan, which is a pretty cheap advantage.

It would be a long match. Allow me to explain. Kakashi has the Sharingan, and even though it's in only one eye, it is fully developed, being a 3 tomoe Sharingan, decent strength, and speed. Might Guy, has great speed, strength and stamina. What Kakashi lack in those departments, the Sharingan, and 1,000 jutsus make up for. Zabuza did indeed catch Kakashi in his water prison, but not because of team 7, and Tazuna, but because he outsmarted Kakashi, nothing more nothing less, it does not mean Kakashi is weaker, or Zabuza is stronger, but, it means that Zabuza got the upperhand, just for that moment. Yes, they both know eachother's strengths, and weaknesses, which is why the match would be so long. It could go either way, as they are both quite strong, all though in the end, I woul hope that Kakashi would win, because Kakashi is............... KAKASHI :yell !!!!
Wolf Child

Taijutsu vs. Ninjutsu = pathetic vs. unstopable, remember Lee vs. Gaara preliminaries.
Yes, Gai is strong, but as he admited himself, Kakashi's coolness is too much for him to withstand... (this happened during Chuunin exam 3rd part Sasuke vs. Gaara)
