So, who's your favorite (or best) NBA player?

My favorite would be either Kobe Bryant or LeBron James.

this is a toughie.

Being from New Jersey, I obviously love Jason Kidd. He's one of the most balanced players to ever play the game (67 triple doubles as of now, 4th most all time, and by the time he retires you can bet he'll have surpassed Wilt, putting him in the top 3 with Magic and Oscar Robertson), he's one of the best passers of the last decade and a half along with Magic, Stockton and Nash, he makes everyone around him better and he's an awesome floor general. Best of all, he's a Net.

But, putting aside team bias, its gotta be Iverson. At any given time he'll be one of the smallest guys on the court, playing with at least 3 injuries and for 40+ minutes a night. And he's still the fastest, most agile, most fearless player in the game. No one plays harder, and no one is more exciting to watch.

after that, I really like LeBron. He does it all, and does it all really well. A beast on D (2.2 steal and 7.4 rebounds pg), a great passer who knows how to run an offense and create openings for others (7.2 APG) and one of the best scorers in the game right now (27.2 PPG). He can dunk like a motherfucker, he hits the clutch shots, he's only 20 years old, he knows how to handle himself and he's a nice guy. With backup in the form of Dwyane, Amare, Melo, Bosch and Yao, the future of the league looks to be in good hands.

Those are the current players. Favorite all time though would have to be Magic Johnson. IMO the best point guard of all time, one of the most balanced, versatile players imaginable, fun as hell to watch, a truly wonderful human being, and most importantly, someone who truly loved the game. Other guys, like Michael, you could see in their eyes that one thing and one thing only mattered to them: winning. Magic won a lot, but you could see for him that, win or lose, he just loved to play basketball.

Magic Johnson, love him to bits. He really loved the game, and it was always a great joy & pleasure to see him play.

Well Jordan is the argubly the best player who ever played Basketball. I love Jordan when he was playing. Now it's all about King James with his plays and his unselfishness, I only wish that the stupid owner would just hire Basketball people to worry about the team and get off their backs. Go sign Ray Allen or Michael Redd or a pure, smooth shooter like them to help James out when they have a wide open shot.

I also like Kobe only for his game but not his ball hogging personality. The Answer is just too tough and so good. KG is pretty good too. Duncan is good but somehow his just boring to watch maybe because he's so mechanically sound. Imagine the Flash, Ray Allen and LBJ playing on the same team, talk about Dynasty.

I'm out

All-Time Favorite:
1. Larry Bird- Played the game for the sake of the game and loved every bit of the game.
2. Michael Jordan- 'Nuff said.
3. James Worthy- Incredible man.
Current Favorite:
1. Tayshaun Prince- Tall and nimble forward who will one day become a great legend, I hope.
2. Corey Maggette- Great Clipper rising star. I just like watching him play, even when he messes up.

Current Faves:
Tim Duncan - all talent, no ego
Ray Allen - silky smooth shooter
Steve Nash - amazing passing and vision, sweet shooter, just a joy to watch
Dirk Nowitzki - can shoot, drive, rebound, great all around skills
Amare Stoudamire - already awesome, he will become an absolute MONSTER!
Dwayne Wade - crazy skills and athletic ability, Lebron James, without the mega-hype

Retired:
Jordan - self explanatory
Magic - amazing player, amazing passion for the game, one of the great personalities of the NBA
John Stockton - one of the greatest PG's ever
Dominique Wilkins - a dunking monster
Reggie Miller - Mr. Clutch

Zeke AKA Isiah Thomas

Air Jordan AKA Michael Jordan

and last but not least

Granmama AKA Larry Johnson

All who just happens to be retired, although Rasheed Wallace is creeping up there

MJ is the GOAT and nobody can argue that. Although so many people already have him as their favorite player. He still is my favorite of all time but my favorite really is Rasheed Wallace (Jordan can't be in the same category as mere mortals :laugh). All joking aside Rasheed is definitely my favorite player, the intensity, heart and pure skill is what makes him my favorite player. My second favorite has to be Earl Boykins, similar to Rasheed because he has so much heart despite being so small and his skill is great, hopefully he can work on making more effecient passes in the off-season. A short guy like that driving into a lane of giants and succeeding, what more can you ask for? So there ya go two underrated players that are great but I like the underdogs because they are like me, although they don't deserve it because they are truly great (unlike me :sad ).

From my favorite team, the Detroit Pistons: Ben "Afro" Wallace.
And in general Dwyane Wade, who rocks everything this year and the only chance of the Heat to win against the Pistons.
Bad luck getting injured against Detroit.

Allen Iverson.

The most heart of any basketball player I've ever seen.

But of all time, my favorite would HAVE to be Sir Charles. He brought the funk back to Philly. :)

Active? Off the court, I gotta love Shaq, he's one of the funniest men alive

On the court, Dirk Nowitzki's game is sick. How can someone so huge run the floor like that?

All-time fave? Gotta go with Bernard King. He could do some silly, silly things offensively. I grew up emulating his patented running one-hander :)

And there shall always be a soft spot in my heart for the warrior, Pat Ewing. He gave me a lotta good years of ball-watchin.

all-time MJ, i remember i was 10 or so and saw him make his "last shot" against the Jazz, simply amazing.

But like what someone else said Jordan can't be mentioned with the likes of mortals. currently my favorite is Ben Wallace, although he hasn't been as nasty as in past years i still love how the guy plays. He's like a Dennis Rodman without the whole weirdness thing.

2nd all time Larry Johnson( this guy showed me my first 4 point play when ny was playing against the pacer)

I would say kobe but he doesn't have the drive compared to most players. You can just tell he doesn't try too hard. I really believed he could've been the next michael jordan but he has like small passion.

Mines would be jordan because I saw how his greatness came from hardwork. In this documentary I saw usually when all normal players are done training Michael usually stays like 2+ hours after to perfect his craft. Mike has gotta be one of the most passionate player therefore my favorite.

Also T-Mac, and Shaq.

4.King James-All the commercials and hype make him pretty cool
5.Shaq-When he is wide open, he's unstoppable.

I'll have to go with LeBron. You can argue that Kobe is better right now, but in a few years time, it will DEFINITELY be LeBron James. (Hopefully in a few years time he won't be the next Grant Hill then I will look back at this thread and start laughing at myself.)

With what I've seen from last season to the begining of this season I'll give it to Lebron.

Kobe should be next, but Kobe scores. Lebron scores, grabs boards, and gives assists. He's a real Team Leader.

As for T-Mac who is my fav player in the NBA, he doesn't have his groove back yet after that frustrating back injury. He is happy with the new roster and feels he can make it far with his new team mates. And he has the potential to become the best.

But no one is matching Lebron at the moment.

We're IN 2k6. :oh

Besides, how does being younger make you better? o_O

Tell Lebron to drop 82. Call it what you want but if you had been watching that night, you would realize that Kobe is simply the best there is right now.

Kobe's stats last year : 35.4 PPG, 4.5 APG, 5.3 RPG

Lebron's stats last year : 31.4 PPG, 6.6 APG, 7.0 RPG

Pretty even stat lines, but Kobe plays in a tougher conference.

Like I said, Lebron will get there, he's just not right now. The public will naturally like him more because of the media, marketing, and general mass perception, but Kobe at this point is just a more dominant player.

Kobe and Lebron is easily tied for the best player in the league, but Kobe is more clutch, so he wins.

I gotta say LeBron. The guy has it all, size, speed, he can shoot, pass, penetrate, hit the 3, have a positive, mental influence on his team, shows a lot of energy and heart and will only get better.

Wade, Nowitzki, Billups, Bryant are honorable mentions as well.

^He does? Not sure about stat, but LBJ is often lost in their defensive scheme. He can learn those in due time. Kobe on the other hand is a very good one on one defender.

The best player in the NBA?? hmmm, i'll say it is LeBron because he passes the ball, scores, and rebounds. The best scorer, i'll say Kobe even though I don't like him. The most exciting, i'll say McGrady because he always comes with a jam. And the most dangerous with the ball, i'll say Iverson because he has the cross over.

Kobe is better. People need to consider defense here. Kobe made the All-defensive team and has done it many times in the past. Lebron will never make one.

Duncan. He dominates in the paint, offensively and defensively, allowing his teammates to go to work, knowing they have an eraser behind them. Duncan's style of play is conducive to winning and that's the goal in the NBA.

Kobe would be after him. He is an offensive juggernaut but while his individual defense is good, he can't control the defensive side of the ball like Duncan can. Plus, I watched him choke away in his last two playoff series, most notably when the Lakers were up 3-1 on the Suns and he went scoreless in the second half of game 7.

LeBron doesn't belong in the conversation. No defense. No J. No Killer instinct. Until he gets two of those three, he can't be number one.

D-Wade for me.

I love his style of playing, he has great agility, passing, good D, and a very good shooting percentage. And he is very exciting to watch. One of the problems about him is that he turns the ball over more than your average superstar. He sometimes, slip and fall when driving But I feel his shooting range increased, he might take more 3s this upcoming season.

He is probably the more consistent player. He doesn't really take over the game unless he needs to and he doesn't take a lot of shots. He takes like 15 shots and makes 8 or 9 of'em, sometimes 10. He keeps a very good FG%. When he does take over the game though....dude...this is guy is dangerous and fun to watch. This is all when he is healthy.

Kobe~ He's a good all around player. Good D, great shooting range, good handles of the ball, and when he is hot, he is dangerous. But that's when he gets hot. Sometimes it takes him a while to truly take over the game. He does end up taking over though, but he cannot score whenever he wants to.

I think his teamwork skills increased a lot, and is recently playing more of the roleplayer rather than the dominate player. If he needs to, he'll try to take over the game and is able to take 3 guards at a time too.

LB~Basically a monster. Very strong and could drive in the paint with his strength. He is similar to Wade, but with less style and more power. His FT shooting needs a bit of work and I'm not really sure about his D. I'm pretty sure it's decent, but to be honest, I never really took notice that much. I'll pay attention more on that this season. And like Kobe, he's pretty much hard to stop when he's hot and is a bit difficult to guard because of his power.

As I said before, LB is similar to Wade with less style and more power. And probably less speed too. And less D.

Chris Paul. Probably the most enjoyable person to watch as a New Orleans bred(before Korea of course) person and Hornets fan. I love just watching CP TO TC. Just soo awesome how Chris does what he does on the court. I love how Hornets gets everyone involved in the play.

Another would be Manu Ginobli. The guy is just pure class and clutch. As a left hander, I admire him. All of his shots and passes are so pretty. :)

MJ was a legend but what the heck MJ. Perfect defense(most shots blocked as a guard, second most steals of all time behind Stockton, NBA defensive player of the year, all defensive team numerous times) Perfect offense(don't want to make a long list of how great he was a scoring and assistings as well as rebounding), Perfect Player. Guy was perfect.

Without a doubt Dwayne Wade is the leagues best player. He is also my favorite player. LeBron is Junk, Kobe is good, But Dwayne is obv better than both, he scores more points a game, he gets more steals per game, he gets more assists per game, and he gets more blocks per game, and beats Kobe is rebounds, I think it's pretty obvious who the best player is.

The thing is, Kobe Bryant’s natural position is SHOOTING GUARD, although he can play Small Forward, SG is his natural position. Do you expect Kobe to be averaging as much rebounds as LeBron? Hell, if you moved Kobe to the SF position, I bet he will be averaging at least 6 rebounds! As for the assists? Can’t do anything about that, Kobe plays in the triangle offense in which assists do not matter!

Yes, that is what LeBron does. The thing is, LeBron RELIES on his natural athletic ability and his combined athleticism. His offensive part of his game is more athletic rather than finesse such as Kobe. Kobe’s game is completely off of his skill, and raw talent. LeBron can play interior better than any player in this league, arguably in this game ever, except the thing is Jordan is the best in interior game BAR NONE! His free throw percentage has increased, I will agree, the thing is, he is still not shooting 80% from the line this year compared to Kobe(86%). His midrange game, needs work, he is not consistent in it. I haven’t seen an argument of LeBron making it rain in his midrange game yet, but his midrange game is still a BIG HOLE in his offensive game, a very big weakness, and it will probably be exploited come playoff time. Another part of LeBron’s offensive game. His 3 point shooting. It is very streaky, he’ll be on fire, at nights he’ll miss each one. He is shooting a career average 32% compared to Kobe(34%)

Both players from draft day to 23 3 pointer percent
LeBron: 32
Kobe including lockout:31
Kobe excluding lockout:32

Both players from draft day to today:
LeBron:32
Kobe including lockout:34%
Kobe excluding lockout:34%

Both players so far during the 2008-2009 NBA season:
LeBron:28%(This was rounded up, he is under 28, 27.8% to be exact)
Kobe:32%(This was rounded up, he is under 32, 31.9% to be exact)

Let’s not forget about LeBron’s body compared to Kobe’s completely different builds.

LeBron:
6’8” and 250 lbs
Kobe:
6’6” and 205 lbs

You see the huge difference? Imagine if Kobe Bryant had the size of LeBron James, who is 2 inches taller, or the build of LeBron James of 250 lbs of pure muscle compared to Kobe, who is 45 lbs lower. Also imagine this vice versa. Would Kobe be dominating in LeBron’s body? Would LeBron be dominating if he had a body like Kobe? He actually has a better defensive advantage, because he can practically defend ALL 5 POSITIONS due to his quickness, while Kobe would be at a disadvantage at the 4 and 5 spot.

The rebounding part I can agree with, LeBron is much more taller, and plays at Small Forward, whose job is to do everything, while Kobe a shooting guard, doesn’t have a priotrity to rebound. However, Kobe is a swingman, and when he is shifted to the Small Forward spot, he would be averaging the same amount of rebounds as LeBron, GUARENTEED!

Can I see LeBron being compared to the Big O? Yes I could, mainly because of his stats.

Michael Jordan? In a way as well, again, his stats. Also his interior game is the best in this league, including his finishing, but let’s not forget. Jordan is the best interior man the game has ever seen, and the best finisher BAR NONE!

Magic Johnson? Definitely. His court vision, passing ability, even his gameplay resembles Magic the most, I myself witnessed Magic playing in the 80s while growing up, and I can tell you LeBron has the traits of Magic, not Jordan, and not Oscar. Now of course, to me Magic is the greatest player of all-time. LeBron has the skills of Magic, will he be better? My opinion is a no.

Again, refer to the Magic Johnson part of the post.

Yes I agree, he, Kobe, and Wade did lead the US to the gold medal this year in the Olympics, can I agree with this? Yes, he is a leader.

A great defensive player? You can’t really say that. I do think he has vastly improved on his defensive game when Mike Brown became coach. But what makes him a better defensive player than Kobe? Has he proven he can play lockdown defense at will like Kobe or Jordan? No, LeBron’s lockdown defense part of his game still needs works. If anything, I will say LeBron’s shot blocking is better than Kobe, but does shot blocking the only thing that determines a better defensive player? Altering shots and contesting shots matter, not when LeBron goes up and swats the ball doesn’t make him the better defender. I agree he sets the tone, oh well, so does Kobe. Next, check the facts, do you remember how many seasons Kobe has made the All-Defensive team? He has made the list EIGHT times! Six of them on the All-Defensive First team, the rest with the second. How many defensive teams has LeBron made? ZERO! If we check when Kobe made the All-Defensive team until 2003(where he became 23 years old) He has made it four times! Twice on the first, and twice on the second! How can you say LeBron is the better defender when clearly, the FACTS, don’t lie?

Great, I also see on his resume that he holds the Cavalier for most turnovers in a half, with 9! LMAO!

As for Kobe’s record? Same thing, he has posted great numbers and his resume is astonishing, the thing is, Kobe Bryant is probably going to retire as a top 10 all-time player(I think he is 9th or 10th on my list)

He is only 23, that’s great. Still remember Kobe when he was that age? People had dubbed him the next Michael Jordan when he got out of high school, and people were saying Kobe Bryant is the next Michael Jordan. As for the nowhere near his prime thing? Let’s not forget one major injury could change his entire career, I personally hope that doesn’t happen as nobody would want somebody hurt. Remember Grant Hill and Penny Hardaway? They both had comparisons to be as great as Michael Jordan, they could have possibly been if they hadn’t been hampered by injuries later in their careers.

You see? Kobe has the more polished game than LeBron, he’s an all league defender, his accomplishments are as great if not better. LeBron needs work on his shot, 3pt shooting, and free throws. Kobe is better offensively and defensively, beat Kobe in driving, he’ll make it rain with jumpshots. Shut down the lane for LeBron? He’ll have to be forced to use his jumpshot, and he’s not great at it. LeBron is going to be great, he will be dominating the league when Kobe retires, but right now it is Kobe the best player hands down. You have your opinions, but come on now, you’re simply ignoring many facts that Kobe has.
