Another incredible manga thatno body is reading. Marvellous in every aspect. Some might recall that si ts done by the same mangaka "Hideo Yamamotoas" who did the infamous " Koroshiya Ichi" the bloodiest and most disturbing manga ever to hit bookshelves. (which i so strongly recoomend checking out, but bewarned, you will feel sick, EXTREMLY sick after reading it)

Basically, "Homunculus" is a story dealing with Trepanation, a procedure of drilling a hole in the skull. It is said to increase the blood circulation and improve pressure inside the skull. It is also said to bring out a person's sixth sense, the ability to use ESP, see ghosts, move objects with one's mind. This is speculative fiction based on the concept of trepanation.

This manga is engimatic to say the least, The story entagles you so quickly, to be frank when i first read it was done by Yamamotoas, i expected another gangtser manga, but i was gladly wrong. This is a manga that reall dwells inside the human mind, A great piece of literature actually.

the reason it doesnt come out that fast is becasue manga screener is in par with Big Comic spirits volume releases, but i realy cant wait to see how it deveopls

Haha, I was sure someone would ask that cquestion seeing that the manga ka is the creator of Ichi the murderer. Dont worry, this mangs doesnt have (yet) any violence as its predecessor Ichi did. I really cant pinpoint what genre it is speciffically. Its more of a of mental/pyshcological manga than you would expect. Very interesting concept( an unusual one for that matter). I suggest just reading it. Its really worth while. And seeing your a fellow fan of 20th CB, you will most definiatly enjoy this.

Well I just read the first volume. Very interesting to say the least... Especially when he started seeing those things. Seems like he sees what a person is thinking? Who they are or what made them who they are? But he was able to do those things with his left side before so I guess that ... 'odd' dude's procedure enhanced it I guess.

Indeed, his abilities were always present from the beginning, yet have been simply improved and sharpened by the operation ( I cant wait till we delve in his past. The dude who made the operation (cant recal his name) seems to have known about him for quite sometime.

I'e only read till volume three, but it gets more intruiging with every passing moment.

If you would like to read a similair manga (pyschological thriller that is) I recommend MPD Psycho (http://forums.narutofan.com/showpost.php?p=250567&postcount=41) its quite violent and contains sexual content (though not as close to how disturbing Ichi Is)

Allthough volume 5 is getting a little more sickening than the others..

I'm guessing she's just horny or something... at first. But now she is coming to her senses and is trying to get away from him. And he's trying to install something on her. At first he wanted her away from him because her sand was consuming him. THen he figured someonthing out. Not sure exactly what he's trying to 'install' or do though.

The girl is symbol freak, she wants to rebel against every written guideline there is. Therefore her homunculi is a sand monster who can adapt to every form it wants. Thing is she's stil a virgin so she hasn't had a guideline for that.

Anyway he figures out by raping her that he can make the sand solid. I think he uses a metafor to tell the reader that by raping her he is installing new software, hense the term Installation Complete, the rape was a succes.

But anway, isn't this manga the best! haha this is drawn insanely well :D it must take months to draw 1 manga

Well she got the scar after she cut herself, after a convo with her mom. So I guess if her mom caused her to become the "Symbol" monster, the blood was also a result of her mom. Then there's the scene where she was licking the blood, the main character (yes I forgot his name...) was also suddenly licking the thing on his hand (.... ....) which could represent what she felt. So she was hiding that too from her mother and others (and someone would hide something they got from cutting themselves for obvious reasons... well some people would at least...). So I guess by not hiding it, her true self would spill out with the blood and overtake the symbols which was used to hide it ... . Just a thought. Well I guess the situation is meant to be confusing anyways....

What I think. I only skimmed both 6 volumes quickly however.

The mom is depicted as a controlling dominant housewife allowing no freedom to her daughter. Thats why she is depicted with tentacles attached to her, because she must be able to manipulate everything.

The daughter participates in these sex exhibits, even when she doesnt need money, as a sign of rebellion against her mother's domineering ways. She also cuts herself as a plea for help/rebellion etc and shoplifts. These are all signs of rebellion against the mother, but at the same time she is too scared to voice her thoughts to her mother. She keeps everything a secret, and pretends that she's a good daughter. The daughter is full of symbols because she lacks a identity. Like many teenagers, they lack a clear identity or place in society. And this is compounded by the fact that the mother probably wishes to form an identity around the daughter that the daughter probably doesnt like.

Having sex in front of her parent's house and in front of her mom was I guess the final act of defiance. As well as showing her scars to her mother? Maybe she now won't be so submissive to her mother?

Analyzing was fun. I might actually read the manga over more carefully now, to get a more indepth opinion.

There similar in the way that both characters are bottling up their emotions, which will only end up inflicting physical/mental injuries upon themselves.

To show that both the man and the girl are similar and both disturbed individuals.

I dont think its to show that humans are disgusting, but more like fragile creatures. Its not the authors intent to portray humans as disgusting. He often portrays them first as monsters, but when you get right down to the soul, they end up just being "innocent fragile children"-like the mafia guy.

Recently, I got to read Koroshiya Ichi. When I knew that Koroshiya Ichi and Homunculus had the same mangaka, I looked for Homunculus and read it. Really a good manga, much better than Koroshiya Ichi both in terms of arts and content. But when I finished the 6 volumes, i felt like the manga hadn't met its end yet. And somehow, I also felt that I didn't get all the idea the mangaka implied in it. Anyone felt the same way ? And by any chance, do you know any other manga by the same mangaka ?

I tried reading Homunculus a year or two ago but I was turned off pretty quickly. My tastes have evolved a lot since then though, so I will be giving it a second try in the near future, and I'm pretty sure I'll like it much more this time around.

Finally some news on homunculus, i've been constantly checking thehawks forums for updates. It should take them a couple of months to scantalate the volume. But at least there is hope. I have not read the manga in a while so i will probably re-read the entire thing when my finals are done. It is a great manga with a great original plot. I cant wait to see the next part of himself that he cures in another, if its as interesting as the last couple this manga will continue to be great. I especially cant wait to find out the true past of that piercing guy, he was the biggest spaz I've read about in a manga since matamachi in vagabond (at least he is not afraid of getting some booty).

I read it up to volume 7 and I got to say, I like it more than Koroshiya Ichi, especially because of the concept behind this story. Very original.

It runs in Big Comic Spirits, which is a weekly magazine, but from my experience it's pretty common for high-selling mangaka like Yamamoto to get a deal that pretty much allows them to slack off, meaning maybe they take a considerably higher number of weeks off than the other guys or their chapter page count is lower than it would be otherwise. Stuff like that.

However, I can't say how frequently he takes the week off, and I can't really tell how many pages per chapter since he doesn't like to divide it up into chapters in the volumes. *shrug*

Geeze, I read vol.1-vol.7 in a matter of hrs last night (now i feel guilty after seeing how long you guys have been waited for each one of them, sorry...kakaka)...cant stop!!

I was so surprised when found out the idea of Trepanation really exists, and it's been practiced/discussed the last couple thousand yrs, not to mention still today. The thought of Yamamotoas did not make this up (ok he did draw up the stroy, but it's the idea that counts), he merely magnified the possibility of such an interesting theory's quite stunning to me: that the story in this manga can possibly...exist in terms of the principle? That gives me chills.

And lucky me! Thank you JebbaChan! I'm spoiled again!

ps. it's probably just me, but I keep thinking that if Yamamotoas write this up as a novel might be even better, yet I'm so very pleased with the manga, it's a pure win either way.

I just recently read this manga and it has a very unique concept. The art is spectacular. The only thing I don't like is the nasty shit that goes on sometimes.

One of them is when the guy drank his own semen. I mean WTF? And the girl cutting herself and drinking her own blood. Usually I don't like content like this (Reason why I dropped Ichi the Killer) but I'll still check out this manga. And a question did Yamamoto announce how many volumes there are going to be?

The scene in the car before they have sex is extremely powerful the way the mangaka switches back and fort between Susumu eyes and the girls thighs. Normally you would expect a scene like that to be cheesy or just plain sleazy but it comes of as raw and intense. Besides 17yr virgin in your car at night all alone in a short skirt=win.
