Hm, not bad. Problem is, I can't remember what significance some of those characters have, if any, because of the waiting. Namely, Soifon. Would someone be so kind as to remind me of who exactly she is? I'm guessing a vice captain, as she seemed fairly powerful/important enough to have a name.

yeah so far, all I recall is that the Yuroichi chick is the one that was training Ichigo. As for Soifon...your guess is as good as mine.

bleach still comes out weekly. Its just that it takes 6 years for MR to scan one(Although I HIGHLY Appreciate MR's work. As they do have a high quality of scans and do an AMAZING job.) Hopefully, since bleach7 said that M7 had been translating all the chapters up till 16something and is going to put them out..that means we'll be caught up with the current manga Very soon.
