[431] The Unseen Answer

In the spirit of this wonderful chapter, and the ending no one saw coming, I have a theory to present.

The Straw Hat's shipwright is going to be... Ussop.

It's going to take Franky a good while to build the new ship, since he hasn't even started yet, and Ussop is wondering what he should do, because he doesn't feel as if he can go back to the Straw Hats as he is, even if he wants to.

So, he's going to take this time to learn how to build and fix ships. Then he'll know that he'll be useful, instead of just the dead weight he thinks he is. He already has talent in this area, since he's the one who patched up Merry all the time and also the creator of the Clima Tact. He just lacks the proper training.

Ussop is also the one who was most affected by the death of Merry, and who felt it was his fault for not knowing how to fix her properly - perfect motivation to become a shipwright, so that next time he'll know what to do.

So he'll swear to the other Straw Hats that this time he'll keep their ship going forever.

nice idea, you could also add in the fact that it was Ussop who first of the crew who made a proper connection with Franky and that Franky knows how important the merry was to Ussop.

Subsequently if he was to ask Franky to let him help or learn I am sure Franky would be more than willing, especially if Ussop told him why he wanted to

Good theory, but I think he'll work alongside with Franky. The main reason he patched up Merry so much is that it was a gift from Kaya.

Franky still has a lot of potential to be a main character, since he shows that he can have a huge variety of attacks.

Nah... Usopp is supposed to be the crew's marksman/sniper like his father. That's what he's best at. And besides, if Usopp isn't supposed to be the crew's sniper, then who's going to fight Van Auger when the Straw Hats and the Blackbeard pirates eventually clash?

He is a strong pirate now, there is no reason for him to stay in Ruffys Crew..Ussop also want to see Elbaf..and the giants take him with them.

Maybe Oda think that Ussop isn't strong enough to go the whole way with Ruffy and the others.
But man, I hope this won't ever happen

You do make it sound like a likely turn of events. I still want to see new blood in the crew. I for one, would like to get Usopp back as sharpshooter plus have a new shipwright.

Ussop learning how to take care of a ship properly isn't going to change the fact that he's a sniper. The important thing is that he doesn't feel as if he deserves to be a Straw Hat, and he needs to find a way to change that. It's not about what Ussop does, it's about how he feels.

Correct, Franky showing Usopp how to make the ship, and Usopp actually doing it, would be a perfect way to get back on the crew. And I'm pretty sure all of the other Straw Hats would gladly except him back in the crew.

anyways, i think it'd be interesting if usopp didn't rejoin the strawhats when they leave water7, and instead travels with oimo and kaashi, since they hav invited him. the strawhats continue adventuring, maybe with or without franky, but without usopp. eventually they come to elbaf, and surprisingly, they find usopp there. only, its no longer the same cowardly lying usopp. he's become stronger (although nowhere near the level of luffy, zoro or sanji), and most importantly, he's become BRAVER. after traveling w/ oimo and kaashi, he decides that he wants to become (insert dream here: greatest sniper, etc) and rejoins the strawhats to achieve that goal.

kinda doubt it would happen, but who knows?

Good theory, but I don't see it happening. What they wanted wasn't a new crewmember, it was a new shipwright. Not totally sure that anyone will join, but I doubt Usopp will be their shipwright.

Ussop wont leave, knowing Luffy, now that he knows that Ussop is SogeKing (that was funny) he will probably ask Ussop to come back. Franky will probably be the new member of the crew, he just has that sort of character which will mix well with the other Straw Hats. I love Franky's poses!

You don't think Franky will join. Right now, I'm not sure. It could go both ways.

We have to remember that every straw hat originally didn't want to become a pirate ( maybe except for Usopp. )

Zoro didn't want to join Luffy until Luffy gave him his swords.
Nami didn't want to join Luffy because she worked with Arlong and hated pirates in the first place.
Usopp kinda did.
Sanji didn't want to join. He stated it plenty of times.
Chopper didn't want to join. He was basically afraid of people.
Robin just wanted to die.
Franky doesn't want to join because he want's to take care of Water 7.

So, I'm not really sure if he's going to join or not.

My bet is Franky has no choice but to join. Im thinking he'll build a very large ship so big the franky family can fit on he lower decks and keep it steamed etc. But he wasnt intending to go.

I think he'll finish the ship and hear that he has a huge bounty associated with the Straw Hats, since he attacked CP9 as a mugiwara pirate, or at least thats what CP9 thought. So theyll be on the hunt for him, and he cant really stay at Water 7 without endangering everything Iceburg has worked so hard to maintain.

I really really hope Franky Family doesn't join. Luffy wants a small crew of only ten. It wouldn't feel right with all of those characters.

But it's possible that Oda has to make a big crew to face the 4 emperors fleets...
Or if the next Arc involves WB Big and powerful fleet they need a bigger number of people, but yes in the end i hope there's a small crew like luffy always wanted...

thats why I said keep them on the lower decks. Have them as like the unseen force on the ship, and that the only ones that show up above deck alot are the original Mugiwara, franky, and from time to time one of the sisters or somebody random pops up above deck and is randomly inserted in a scene confusing everyone, like when Sogeking showed up last chapter.

One Piece is about a small group of friends going on adventures together. Not that group and their work slaves.

I still don't think Franky will join, simply because he's got his own crew that he loves. I just can't see him leaving the Franky Family, even if it is to look after his dream ship. I also doubt that the Strawhats will ever be the kind of crew that has dozens of nameless people. I think it'll always be a small crew of extremely unique individuals.

The Usopp=shipwright theory is good but I think Usopp's role as sniper/liar/guy who fights with brains instead of brawn is secure and that there will be another person joining the crew soon.

I still want franky to join I something happening like the franky family joining Galley-la and Zanbai becoming the new leader he did get a good deal of face time and they've got no more reason to be rivals with Galley-la anymore.

I think that after franky makes the ship everyone will agree that they'll need someone to maintiain the ship so they never have to lose a friend again, and on the ship franky will teach Usopp how to be a shipwright because I don't think he'll have time to teach anyone if he's building the ship.

But I just want both of them to join, I don't want this to end up like a Vivi thing again, that pissed me off.

Franky is wanted by the WG. For the sake of his family he should leave. But then again it might be the way you people say, but I really, really doubt it =/

I'll feel like Usopp actually will go with the giants to Elbaf, then Franky will realize that without anybody to repair the ship good,(he could'nt learn usopp how to repair) he will take his 'place', until Usopp will be back and it will be straw hats complete!(So far)

Interesting idea with Usopp but I think that he'll work up the courage to confront Luffy soon enough. As for Franky, I keep hearing about how he's the new crewmember but IMO the Strawhats don't need another fighting powerhouse that already has his own gang, I think that it's more likely that Paulie will be the one to join as soon as the repairs to Water 7 are underway and Franky's ship is complete. Then again with the WG finding out that Cutty Flam is still alive that might change but I still doubt he'd leave his gang. Besides, isn't it Franky's dream to build the ship he's already started on now?
