Have anyone used Gundam Markers GM-14(luminous pink) or GM-15 (luminous green) to paint beam sabers and/or head camera before??
Which Gundam marker is best suited for rockets thrusters? :blink
Chillin
07-28-2005, 12:38 AM
It depends on the color of the actual inside of the thrusters. They vary from model to model, but most are either red, yellow, dark grey, or black. If you want to give the thrusters that "used" look then go with black and either streak or smudge (depending on if you are using paint or ink) the insides of the thrusters to make it look as if it has been in use or whatever you want to call it. There is another way to do it, but you can easily get it to a similar effect by doing that.

i just want to ask one thing... its kinda obvious but im just going to ask to be safe... which of the 2 are you going to buy, HG 1/100 Freedom, or MG 1/100 Char's Custom Zaku II... they both have almost the same price... but the Zaku is old stock and i think the store where i saw it is selling it at 50% discount:whoo :whoo :whoo ... so which one will it be?
And another one... is the hg 1/100 sword impulse good? or does it have the same problems that the force model have?
Kiba-kun

The Zaku II MG is one of the biggest selling models of all time...and it's Char. Get it. ^_^
Haven't got the Sword Impulse yet myself ;_; If I do, I'll post about it....perhaps someone else has one?

Fudging crap that thing looks even uglier than I thought it would.
I'll be getting the 1/100 Sword Impulse model next month (end of next month at that). Maybe someone else has it? I actually thought the 1/100 Force Impulse wasn't so bad, just got to work with it a little.

holy crap that thing looks fugly
as for sword..i havent heard anything good about it, although I havn't heard anything bad either.
I'll be getting it also whenever it drops in price, unless Blast somehow gets released but at this point..its doubtful they'd even release a HG 1/144 version
too bad T_T, Blast was my favorite Impulse pack too
Chillin
07-28-2005, 02:34 PM
Yeah Blast Impulse was my favorite as well. Hold out hope though, I remember the Blitz 1/100 scale came out even after the 1/100 Freedom and Justice models.

haha yeah
but then they'd still have to release Gaia and Abyss
sidenote: Woohoooo I just got my Destiny like 5 minutes ago =D
box is freaking just as big as the MG Zeta X_X
its a little crushed in but its okay haha
just had to come back and say that =)
chances are I am going to make Destiny before Zeta XD

Nice ^_^ Tell us poor people, patiently waiting for ours, how good it is david! ^_^
I'm really hoping I can pick up a slew of HGUC Zeta models. Been rewatching the series, got some fantastic designs in there. Hopefully gonna get Mk.II, Zeta, Qubeley, O, Super, Hi-Zack (EF colours), Gaplant and a chrome plated Marasai. And maybe the poor, poor Asshimar if I have money left over. That has to be one of the worst designs I've ever seen! Anyone else wishing they'd release a Methuss already?
Chillin
07-28-2005, 06:23 PM
I got my Destiny! This is a good day. I got my digital camera today and my Destiny came in the mail. I suppose I would like a Methuss, but that thing reminds me of a Transformer more than a mobile suit. I would get the MG Zeta (not A1 or C1) but it sucks. I'll probably get the MG Super Gundam, as well as a few 1/144 HGUC Zeta kits like you Kiba.

haha you'll probably build yours before I get to mine though.
maybe I'll start on it this weekend =/
but I gotta start signing up for classes and shit so maybe I won't have much time lol
I, for one, have not seen Zeta yet. Although I know about the main Gundams and such, but thats about it lol. I bet if I watch it though I'm going to want to get the Gundams in it. Since I already got a Zeta and I like the Qubeley
I have nearly every Gundam from the SEED/Destiny.
I'm missing.....Forbidden, Raider, Providence, Saviour, Force/Sword Impulse
Other than those I have every Gundam thats been a model from those series'

I saw a HG GOUF Flight type. 1/144 on ebay today and desided to get it, now is this model easy to paint or a pain in the ass?
Chillin
07-29-2005, 01:22 AM
1/144? Probably will be a pain in the posterior. It shouldn't really be too too hard actually, but some of the little parts may be off in color and that's where the difficulty lies.

I want the MG Freedom ;_; My friend has one and it's so gorgeous...has anyone else heard anything about it being discontinued? It's really puzzling me why it's no longer on HLJ. Perhaps they're gonna reissue it with parts for Strike Freedom? *Drool* That would be so great...
Chillin
07-29-2005, 01:02 PM
The MG Freedom sold a motherload (reason why it's sold out everywhere) and Bandai indeed discontinued making the model for the time being. They always start making more, but the MG Freedom has been discontinued longer than most models have before they come back into production. It is possible they are making molds for the MG Strike Freedom *prays*
Yeah Ha-ri, you can get acrylic paints, they are really easy to find
Edit: I just checked HLJ, they got some MG Freedoms in stock today, as well as the MG Accguy! If anyone likes the Accguy (how couldn't you? It's cute) get this model. It has a lot of cool stuff with it and some really new cool perks that I've never seen in a MG release.

Yeah definitely bring your Gundam manuel. It has the color guide right in there. It actually tells you how to mix certain colors in order to get that exact color, but you would have to be able to read the symbols and characters to understand.
Good news people the HG 1/144 DOM Trooper has just been released as well as the Cosmic Region Freedom.

well... if you're the lazy type, i think the markers are good enough...:amuse but if your the type that wants his/her models to look like the one in the manual, or someone who likes to customize the paint of their models, i suggest you use acrylic paints... sprays or the old fashion brushes will do... but if you really want it to look good, i suggest you go buy an airbrush... :amuse
and just make sure you have good brushes... the ones i used on my saviour were sooo bad and cheap that the bristles came off everytime i brushed paint on the model...:mad thats why my saviour got sooo dirty... maybe i'll re-touch it during my school break. which is comming in the next 2 weeks...:amuse

ssouske you did a great job with that Saviour. I didn't even use gloss paint with mine only touch ups where the color was inaccurate or where I had to use stickers. i jus did my Destiny's wings last night...it turned out alright, the black pieces
havel ike white spots where i cut them but i jus painted that over haha
and I just thought of that X_x
and btw..for the eyes...do u actually paint those in? or jus use the stickers?

The eyes look best when painted in, generally. Use gundam markers ^_^ And sand your pieces to get rid of those white marks.
Nice Saviour ssouske! Made me want to get my own now. I should really post up pics of my models! How bout we all have a pic-posting fest? I'm gonna have a problem getting good lighting for mine (I have a life-size incredible hulk blocking out most of the light in my room XD) but I'll try anyway! I have actually seen some of those official gundam markers in a robot convention done by animax asia... there are markers that have huge tips... i've seen some 1st grade kits colored by those markers and they're kinda good... but in my opinion, nothing really beats the acrylic paints...:amuse just use the pannel line marker for the lines... i think they dry faster than the regular art pens...

Anyone tried assembling your gundam model with only Gundam Markers? :blink (no other paints)
No, but I might try; most gundam markers are thick-tipped paint pens, so it'd work fine so long as you're good enough not to make it uneven and streaky. The only fine tipped ones are the black and grey panel liners (which EVERYONE should own). Gundam markers are worth buying, for intermediate modellers like me. I'd love to move onto airbrushes etc but I don't have the time nor the money :(
Just charging up my camera now for photos ^_^ Bandai should thank you guys - you've just made me want to buy the Saviour! Hopefully mine'll look just as good.
Kay, so I've got a shitload of money to spend and I need to narrow down what models I should get. Already pre-ordered Destiny, so that's a definate. My other choices are:
HGUC and HGGS 1/144:
Hyakushiki with Mega Bazooka
Saviour
Zaku Warrior (Pink)
Operation V (Gundam, Guntank, Guncannon)
Blaze Zaku Phantom + Slash NG conversion (mentioned earlier)
Gaia
Mk. II
Marasai
Rick Dias
MG and 1/100 SEED:
Gundam ALEX
Hyakushiki
God Gundam
Wing Gundam Ka
Blaze Zaku Phantom
Justice Gundam
Aegis Gundam
Need to narrow down this list a little XD Any ones that jump out as being great buys to y'all?

Kiba-kun and ssouske how do you guys take good pictures? That one I took of my Saviour sucked so bad :sad
For MGs Kiba definitely get the Wing Gundam Ka. and God Gundam. Hyaku shiki too, but you probably can't do much with that but snap it together.
For the HG 1/144
Saviour
Marasai
your Blaze Zaku Phantom/Slash conversion thing (I want to see that) :laugh
If you have to get the Rick Dias make it the MG, it looks really good and is very well done
Kereo you really don't need to paint the models. Most look fine (or even great) without paint. It just adds to the overall appearance if you do touch ups or paint the model entirely. At least do panel lines though, like Kiba-kun said, it is a must.

Touch ups? Like, just add abit of paint on some parts where it looks off? And with panel lines you mean lines between the "metal" panels I assume.
So, what do you suggest as a good starting model, in both looks and difficulty, and starting supplies?
*Edit* I personally like Seed, Seed Destiny, 08th platoon, Zeta and X. So if it could be a model from one of those series it'd be great ^_^

I'm so glad you said that, it was what the back of my mind was telling me anyway XD That's pretty much what I'll be getting then, but if they have the DOM Trooper and the MG Accguy when I get there I'll want them instead of/as well as the above.
Kereo, a good start would be the SEED/SEED-D HG 1/144 lines. Just pick your favourite gundam from that line and go! Very few of those models have anything to complain about, but most need some serious panel lining and a bit of extra colour (not everything will be correct) so they'll provide a fairly long and fulfilling project. Try the Strike or anything GINN based (Cgue, Deep Arms, Miguel custom etc).
For some reason my f**king camera won't work...I'll try using my friends, she left it here ages ago. Might as well put it to use!

Yeah you hit everything right on the head. Like Kiba-kun said, go for the SEED and SEED Destiny HG line (1/100 or 1/144 scale). If you get a 1/144 scale make sure it isn't the NG models. The colors are mostly off and they have very limited articulation.
Starting supplies all you'll really need is some micro sheers (or sprue cutters, essentially same thing just different name) for cutting the parts off the runners, and a fine tip art pen or Gundam marker to do the panel lines(primarily black). Eventually you may want a sanding stick or file for smoothing out areas where you cut the parts off the runners, but that isn't necessary at the moment.

Ok, thanks. A few more questions. From the Seed time line, I think Freedom is the coolest, but I saw in this thread that the 1/144 hg sucked. Also, in this thread I believe I saw that 1/144 in general wasn't that good. And, just to get it straight, its like this right:
Perfect Grade > Master Grade > High Grade > No Grade
*Edit* In the line you guys recommend, the High Grade, is the EZ8 in there? Cause I think either Freedom or the EZ8 is my favorite suit ever.
*Edit part Deux, the edit strikes back* Also, wich shops do you recommend? I saw the hlj one, hobby link Japan or something like that. Any other ones?
*Edit part three, Return of the Edit* Ok, just realised something else. What kind of paint is needed for painting? Cause, I will appereantly need some paint for touch ups. I have some paint left from when I still did Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40K, but thats quite expensive paint, and the only shop that sells it around here is like 30 minutes on bike.

There are a lot of good HG 1/144 kits. But yeah stay away from the NGs, and you are right about the grade ranks. I think the only way to go if you want a good Ez-8 is the MG.
Hmm that's interesting your Freedom does that Raku, I didn't seem to have that trouble. Sorry I don't know the answer for that. All I can say is work with the model a little. It will pose the way you want it to eventually.

Yup, that's the one. Hold it about 30 cm away, making sure you're in a well-ventilated area (they REALLY smell, perhaps consider wearing some sort of mask) and have sufficient backing against the piece you're spraying (they go everywhere) and spray with a constant, even pressure on the nozzle. Not hard to use at all, but you might wanna try building a few models so you get used to them before using it, or buying a couple of crappy models to practise on.

Also, new question, doesn't that mean I will have to paint other parts? I mean not every part is only red. There is also white and yellow on Aegis, wouldn't that be sprayed over when you spray?
Maybe I'll take the Duell Gundam to http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN919250

as for the markers...I have the exact same ones.
I use them just for touch-up paint and all that b/c I'm new to painting.
and I suck ass with a brush so I use markers instead.
I'd use airbrush but I don't have to the time to learn how to use it really well like Kiba-kun.
But yeah, those markers are decent for touch up paints and such.
as for stores, if your in the US www.imageanime.com has some good ones and other various US based sites also have the older SEED models.
for new stuff HLJ is the best place or ebay.
Saw the DOM Trooper on there yesterday already.
I'm assuming when ppl spray paint...they spray the primary color on then do the other colors later? but I could be wrong
Looking at pics makes me want to posting my craptasicly built models as well.
maybe if I can work my bro's digi cam I'll take some
Yes, I am a noob when it comes to digi cams

Ok, so that spray can, those markers. Anything else needed/handy for the models I posted earlier? I'd like to know, cause then I'll pick it up right away and I'd like to get as much as possible in one go, as it cheaper with shipping.
These are the models I mean:
1/100 HG Aile Strike (http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN914211)
1/100 Aegis (http://www.hlj.com/product/BAN916410)
And Kiba, can you answer my question about the spraying (see below)?
Quote from myself
Also, new question, doesn't that mean I will have to paint other parts? I mean not every part is only red. There is also white and yellow on Aegis, wouldn't that be sprayed over when you spray?
Kiba-kun
08-01-2005, 05:30 AM
The parts are made into different coloured sprues, so all the red parts would be on one or two sprues, all the white on another etc etc. So, what I did was to simply spray each individual piece as I went along before assembly. You won't have issues covering up colour then. Or, you could assemble, then cover up pieces you don't want sprayed with modelling tape or similar, but there's a lot more room for error there.
ssouske
08-01-2005, 10:03 AM
Or... you could do it the hard way... build and assemble, then slightly disassemble but leave some parts like the legs, arms etc... then paint... and do the touch ups... but you know what, i think painting before assembling is better...:wink
Kereo

Ok, all I need now is know if any additional supply's for touch ups and such are needed for the 2 models in my previous posts (Strike and Aegis 1/100 HG). I'd like to order as much as possible in one go, cause thats cheaper with shipping. So, if one of you could please answer that, I'll go order :D

Umm....only things I can think of would be the black fine tip gundam marker for panel lines, some kind of clipper for removing parts from sprues and some sandpaper for cleaning off nubs...but those are the kind of things you'd find around the house anyway (any very fine tipped black or grey pen will do for panel lines).
Good luck and have fun with them! Remember to show us pics when you're done! ^_^

Is there a way other then spraying? Cause I just realised, my room is not really good to spray a model and neither is our living room. Wich leaves me with the garden, but I live in Holland, and here it rains more often then not, so I'd be completely dependant on the weather to do Aegis. So, I guess that leaves me with painting or the markers?

I was looking around and I saw that the SD Force Impulse Gundam and the SD Gunner Zaku Warrior [Lunamaria Hawke Custom] are coming out soon and I was wondering, Do ou think theres gona be a destiny or S-Freedom SD model?(I know some or maybe all you don't like em)
EDIT: Oh and how would you paint a SD Model? Cus the ones have look crappy without any paint so I'm just wondering.
EDIT2: I just finished my 1/144 HG MIGUEL'S GINN
ssouske
08-02-2005, 12:56 AM
YOU WANT TO PAINT AN SD?!? OMG! thats soooo much more difficult to paint compared to the 1/144 models... anyway... heres how i'd paint it...
just like the ordinary models, i'll paint most of the parts with the base color of the model... (like red for saviour, and whatever) you can use either a spray or the brush... after the initial paint has dried, i'll proceed to coloring the model in detail... use a brush... specifically a small/fine one since your doing an SD... after detailing, do the touch-ups if need to... just make sure to let the paint dry before applying the details... we don't want the colors to mix up... and i recomend using spray or airbrush on the base color... its easier to do that... plus the paint will be spread evenly...:amuse
edit: i found a very cheap airbrush!!! yay!!! but i still don't have the money... maybe next week i'll get it... its worth Php500(US$1=Php56 do the math) but i hope its still good even if the price is cheap... but im really having second thoughts about this one... coz it says made in taiwan....:laugh

Would around 80 dollars be a nice deal for a 1/144 HG saviour and Gaia? This includes shipping. The 1/144 HG Saviour is the one Chillin and Ssouske posted pictures of right? Cause I can get them in a bundle from plajapan, and they can be here in a few days. Also found 2 stores that are pretty close by my house that sell acrylic paint, so I was thinking of maybe getting those 2, plus some paint before the HLJ order comes in, so I can try painting, assembling etc with those. Would that be a good idea?

Can you please explain 1/100, 1/60, HG, MG, PG? I can wait for the best.
As far as I understand it, a PG 1/60 is the best quality. Its like this: PG 1/60 > MG > HG > NG
And the bigger the model, the better it is. atleast, from what I understand of it.

Oh ok, not bad at all. I have no idea what shipping to other countries would cost, but that seems to be a deal right there. I would definitely practice painting on the 1/144 HG before I move on to more high-end models. With acrylic paints if you mess up you can always use paint thinner and it will come right off with a little cotton swab or even your finger nail.

Alright, then I think I'll do it, after checking with plajapan on some of the shipping options ofcourse. Can you please explain 1/100, 1/60, HG, MG, PG? I can wait for the best.
ok... the 1/144, 1/100, 1/60 are the sizes... its based on the ratio on how small the model is compared to the real size of the gundam... so if we say 1/144, it means that the model's size is 144x smaller compared to the original size in the specs... and 1/100 is 100x reduced... and so on... 1/144 is the smallest of the models, and to my knowledge, 1/60 is the biggest models... of course huge MS and MA like METEOR & probably Destroy will only get a 1/144 scale model since they are very big... HG, MG and PG are the grades... the grades are based on the points of articulation/details the model gets... the more the better... 1st grade or what some call no grade are the most basic... they're the cheapest models and they can be assembled easily... the drawback is the lack of details and they really need to be painted since most of the part's colors are very innacurate... 1st grade/no grades come only in 1/144 size... next is HG or High grade... you get more detail/points of articulation in these models compared to no grades... they also have more parts they come in 1/144 and 1/100 sizes... next is MG... or Master Grade... i never yet had one so i can't really explain much of this but they do get more detail and they supposedly have more parts compared to HG's... and they feature removable armor plates so that you can see detail underneath the gundam's armor plates... and i think they have a special skeleton so that you can do the poses... usually they do that for legs... and these can be posed in more realistic looking poses compared to HGs these come in 1/100 or 1/60... and then there are PGs or Perfect Grades... these have the highest amount of detail... they have a better version of the skeleton system that the MGs use and some usually feature cast iron parts... expect that these models would look a lot like the gundams if they ever excisted... these models come in 1/60... SD's are the small gundams that have huge heads and small bodies... i do not recomend buying those... then we have MSIA... or Mobile Suit In Action... the seed line uses a skeleton system similar to those of MGs... unlike the plastic no grades-PGs they already look good out of the box... no painting required... they are made of soft rubbery like plastic... and they're more like toys than models...
I hope that helps... i'll change this if i get more info...:laugh

I hope that helps... i'll change this if i get more info...:laugh
i wanted to add this. a lot, and i mean a lot of the MG models also have their cockpits open, so like you get a little pilot to put in it. i know that with the PG versions, some of them light up, like the strike which lights up in the head. and wing zero custom lights up on its head and the jewel on its chest. also, not only do they have cast iron parts, but because the PG models are so big, i read that you need screws to keep the parts such as wing zero's gigantic wings in place. i was reading the instructions for wing zero custom and you even build the interior of the cockpit and everything. it was so insane.....like the detail includes the seat belt, the screens, keyboards and everything. i dunno how they do it. but PG of course is just so awesome. i have yet to get one.....i was so close to getting RX-78gpo2a 1/60 PG but my dad felt that it was too big....i was like, f*ck!!!!!!

lemme just ask 1 thing.... you color those models yourself or are they already colored ?
just wondering since i've never done a Gundam model in my whole life, and thought i might try one, but the colouring would be a pain in the ass... XD
darksage78
08-11-2005, 08:07 AM
They look uncolored to me... Most of Master Grade parts are already molded into the colors you need. Like for my MG Freedom I barely had to paint parts, just a lot of panel lining. HG 1/144s take more coloring and HG 1/100s a little less. I'm not sure about Perfect Grade since I've never built one.
As for Master Grade, I got Zeta and Freedom. I must say that it took me 5 days approx each seeing as I painted and panel lined. (I screwed panel lining many times so I had to redo with alcohol) One thing I really liked about the MGs was their frame. Unlike the HGs, you can take a particular part off really easily and fix it. e.g paint
Oh as for thisbedavid, I'm pretty sure Taiwan would still have the "Limited Edition" version in October. They float around for quite awhile. But I think the only differences for Limited Edition were part colors and stickers right?

You don't need to be able to read what it says. All the instructions are image based. Also since your gonna get MG Freedom, my tip is to get Gundam Markers, they're awesome. For the parts that require stickers you can do a better job with the markers. For example Freedom's gun, there is a rim of blue along the edges, it looks much better with the paint.
Thanks for the rep!

wow! i didn't know there were so many other people out there who like gundam models!
I have a pretty sizeable collection myself. I noticed you all are into the master grade freedom. I didn't bother to the the MG and went straight to the BSRD(very similar to perfect grade) one. I also have the BSRD Strike Weapon System. I would not suggest getting the Perfect grade Wing Zero Custom, its legs are like noodles and the wiring is a pain in the ass, I still havent finished the wiring. I need to find some markers for my archangel before I can build it, anyone know where i can find the Gundam Seed Marker Pack? anyways i do like the sd models also, they r just so crazy looking. I have almost every 1/144 scale gundam wing models and most of the 1/100 Endless Walts ones. There are a few others thrown in, but all in all i have about 30-40 models. I also have like 10 zoids models also. I even have the five conversions of liger zero and the weezel unit for my gunsniper. So, yeah iv got alot of them and i want more! Preferably White Base and the Meteor Unit for the highgrade Freedom and Justice. :laugh

It's HG, but I wouldn't be surprised if they eventually came out with an MG S-F. It is extremely popular and in addition to the 1/144 NG and 1/100 HG that is already out they are coming out with a 1/144 HG and 1/60 scale of the model complete with LED (and that is after Destiny ends) and what not. Next stop has to be MG

No problem. Markers are the paint. All you have to do is shake them well and then press on the part that needs coloring. As for panel lining, its just to make the lines stand out on parts, especially white parts. There are grooves for you to fill in or lines to carefully trace along.

We have one "hobby store" here in the little town I live in, but theyonly sell paint, brushes, paper, parchment craft stuff, and other miscelanious hobby things. One of the big toy stores in the country had Wing no grade models I believe, back when Gundam Wing aired, but back then it didn't spark my interest. For the rest, there is the city close to our town, there IS a store that says on the window something about manga and anime, but its a comic book store, so I assume they only have comics and dvds. And thats all I know. If there are any stores that sell model kits, they are probably little shops that specialize in anime and stuff, wich I no none off. Maybe there are one or two hidden in Amsterdam or Rotterdam, maybe even Utrecht. But, that means taking the bus, then the train, and then possible the bus again. And public transport sucks in Holland -.-
Anyway, I hope to finish painting the first layer on every part today!

since you're doing freedom, i recomend you buying a pure white spray and a black... use gloss sprays to improve the looks... because it will make the model look something like shiny metal object... just use the markers for the other colors...:amuse
EDIT: OH! and try to find a clear acrylic spray... and spray it thinly on the model.. it will lock in the paint and protect the paint from any damage... plus it will make your model look more shiny...:amuse

only places i know are actual anime shops but they all suck except for two
one is my friends shop, but he only gets the stuff tahts released in america
like...when Destiny releases in DVD in america he'll get Force Impulse and the Zaku Warrior only and maybe Chaos
he didn't get Freedom until the dvd with Freedom's appearance was released lol
but his prices are reasonable 14-18$ for a 1/144...25-28$ for a 1/100
although he gives me the stock price which is like 8$ and 15$ lol :laugh
another shop called anime pavillion actually has Destiny models for around 20$ 1/144 and 1/100 for like 30-40$
they actually also got it pretty fast but since its summer I dont go to that area anymore so i dont go there lol
some stores jsut overprice like crazy...I saw Blue Frame Second L for like 50$ at a anime shop in the mall lol
so yeah....for me... ordering online is always better for the newer stuff.
btw if anyone would critique my Destiny a bit, could they? :laugh
I want to make it look better if I can
i'm just gonna order my 1/100 destiny and strike freedom and was wondering what other things i should get for the detailing.
i was going to buy the thin grey panel marker and maybe the black but i don't know what to do about paints and the like.

Ok, I couldn't control myself anymore. I just HAD to put the torso of Gaia together :amuse
All thats left on the torso is touch up some red on the black. The red won't form a nice enough layer, so I am still working on that... And the yellow exhausts on the chest still need a second color. And ofcourse it still needs panel lines. So yeah, almost finished the torso now :amuse
I took some pictures of it, but I can't find the proggie needed to put the pictures from the camera on the pc :sad

Out of curiosity, do the stores at your places not sell gundam models? I find mine at a local toy store. JUst wondering.
if ur talking about me. uh, i would have to say most likely. i mean, ive been everywhere, and i havent found a store. they used to have tons of them in houston, but it seems like the only place i can get models now are at cons, but my parents are really anti anime. so im like, w/e

Holy shite, I'm glad I bought my S-Freedom already. One of the bids on eBay has gotten as high as 51 dollars without shipping. Monday! Oh sweet Monday, I will get the box then put it on the backburner for about 2 months :laugh So many others I need to do. I know one thing; immediately after I finish either the Destiny or the S-Freedom I will start on the other.

but damn.... ebay sellers are going all out on Strike Freedom lol
I would take advantage of this also if I sold models lol
It's crazy what people would pay lol
Strike Freedom is like the most in demand model
I think Destiny comes at second though haha

Anti-anime? :sad Why? My parents aren't keen on anime but they're not against it.
I bouy mine at a local toy store. They got models from Destiny and SEED. My boyfriend fixes it up for me. We don't paint it, though. He uses stickers on them. :amuse

@David...
pannel lines... add them and destiny will really look better...:amuse
the next step would be custom painting... although that will eat up time... thinking of the perfect custom colors for Destiny will definitely take a lot of time since nobody would want to ruin it... or if you do not want that, you could go for the used up look... spraying a thin layer of black in some parts give it the battle used look... perfect for dioramas and etc... i have a friend that did those for his endless waltz collection... and damn... his models looked great...

Ok.. i've decided to revise the beginer's guide that I made... and im posting here the contents of an article from a local anime mag that i think, already went broke or something... nevertheless, thanks to them for this guide...
First Grade/FG
First/No grade kits are the simplest in Bandai's line up. They are in 1/144 and are relatively cheap compared to their souped up counterparts. tye are molded in plain colors, have limited articulation, and have the barest of accessories. examples are kits from SEED
Basic/No Grade/NG
Basic kits refer to the 1/144 and 1/100 ungraded kits released by Bandai that differentiates them with their FG counterparts by their slight increase in building complexity, more points of articulation and color molding. examples are from Wing, G, and Turn A... it is important to note that some of these kits (especially Turn A) are of near HG quality.
HG: High Grade
First released in the 1980's, HG has somewhat become the standard for most model kits released by bandai these days. these kits offer even better articulation than the previous grade, have multicolored spruces, and more more option parts and accessories. they come in 1/144 and 1/100 scales. examples are those from HGUC (High Grade Universal Century) line, HG Fighting Action series (Endless Waltz series) and the HGGS (High Grade Gundam SEED)
HG Mechanics
This is a line up of 1/550 High Grade kits of some Mobile Armors from the Gundam universe... examples are the Val Walo, and Dendrobium.
EDIT: I think METEOR and ArchAngel models fall under this category...
MG: Master Grade
If you want kits with more than a hundred parts, working pistons and gears, lots of detail and an internal frame or "skeleton" to hold the whole package together, then this is the line for you. MG's are 1/100 kits of some of the more sought after mechas from gundam. Master Grades are molded in accurat colors and look good right out of the box, but are quite expensive. These kits are priced almost twice of their 1/100 HG counter parts, sometimes even more...
PG: Perfect Grade
PGs are 1/60 model kits with parts that are almost 5 times more than those of an MG. Expect to find individually articulated fingers, working piston and gears, lights, an amazing internal frame, and tons of mechanical detail. currently only MS06F and MS06S Zaku II, RX-78-2, RX 178 gundam mk II, Wing Gundam Zero Custom, RX-178 Mk II titans, MSZ-006 Zeta, GP01Fb, Strike, Aile Strike Rouge+Sky Grasper, and recently announced Freedom have been incarnated into this grade.
Real Detail
Real Detail Kits come somewhere between the HG and PG kits. HG for amount of detail and PG for sheer size(1/60). they do not have internal frames like those of MGs and PGs but have articulated fingers and opening cockpits. an example is the Real Detail Strike Gundam or what we usually reffer to as the 1/60 MG strike...
LM: Limited Model
Limited Model kits are in 1/144 scale and are quite scarce. they have very limited articulation, much like FGs, yet are made of solid plastic. examples of LM kits are the Duchess Custom from GX and Mobile Leo from GW...
SD:Super Deformed
Super Deformed kits are just that: super deformed... these are the SD versions of the Gundam Universe and are cute and funny because of theri big heads and small bodies. they have limited articulation because of theri design limitiations, though some SDs like Strike and Gundam Astray have really funky leg and arm articulation that is unexpected for models in this scale. also, some SDs are fully decked and have tons of accessories.
Head Strikers
Thse kits look like SDs but have balls for their heads that can be fired at other head strikers.
MSiA: Mobile Suit in Action
the article did not include this so im adding my own facts about this grade...
MSiA kits are more like toys than models because of their rubbery plastic construction... they are durable and are suprisingly very poseable... like the MGs and PGs, they look good out of the box and usually does not need or only needs minor assembly... the SEED line made use of a skeletal system that is slightly of lower quality compared to MGs. the SEED line also had gundams in deactive/Phase Shift Down colors...
now choosing a kit... the article says that for most beginers the basic and HG kits is the best starting point for those who want to start collecting gundam models... and for moderate to expert builders, PGs and MGs are more suitable for those people...:amuse the article also says to stay away from FG, LM and SD kits because they suck bigtime...:laugh

Just how are sprays? Cause I've heard that the airbrush is amazing for creating textures and finishes on models. I've seen some too, but what I'm worried about is if its difficult to do, expensive, etc. Cause all I've ever used were Gundam Markers and Testors paint...
Chillin
08-14-2005, 04:37 PM
Sprays are nice. They are easy to use, the only problem may lie in finding the exact color you want for your models. I have an airbrush, but I haven't used it. I want to practice on a NG kit first. Once I do it, I'll tell everyone how it is.
has anyone got the MG nu gundam?
i reaaaaally want to get it but i wanted to know if it had any problems or anything.
and is it best to buy both the black and the gray panel liners? i thought S_F would look better in gray but i also want to use the black for destiny

I only buy dark grey pens just in case. Other than that I mainly use black. It's up to you though. I have the MG Nu Gundam. It was one of my first MGs and all I did was assemble it. I had no problems with it, it comes with die cast parts for the legs so it can hold it's massive back weight. Now that I'm more experienced I was actually thinking about getting another one and decking that one out. It looks great as is though.
its gonna be my first MG as well before the freedom's back in stock in october ^^
thanks for the help chillin i really love that desgin and i would've been gutted if it had things wrong with it.
i'll post pics of my models once i get my cam and everything finished

Hmm I'll be going somewhere soon where I can pretty much buy any model I want. What would you guys recommend? Can be any grade, I need at least one NG to test my airbrush out. The rest of what I get will be HG, MG, or PG.
I haven't built a Gundam model in like 2-3 years. The last one I bought was either my HG 1/144 RX-79 or MG 1/100 God Gundam. I stopped after I got upset with the quality. When I finished my God Gundam 3 parts never wanted to stay on and I never really wanted any Perfect Grade models so I just stopped. Now I'm eyeing a MG 1/100 Freedom Gundam.

I have it. Once again no complaints. I don't know which one you are going with (Wing Gundam Ka. or Wing Zero), but both are solid. Seems like the hands of the Wing Gundam Ka. are a bit stiffer than the hands of the Wing Zero so it holds it's weapons relatively better. Only thing I didn't like about the Wing Gundam Ka. is that it didn't come with a display stand like the Wing Zero, so you can't pose it in mid-flight or whatever you want to do. Another thing about both models is that there is hardly no panel lining (well only on the Wing Zero's wings) or painting needed. They look awesome right out of the box.
sorry meant wing can't find zero on hlj at the moment.
yeah its shame it doesn't have a stand but it looks so hawt. thanks for the info again chillin! i'm gonna order it tmoz so when ever i get it i'll post pics ^^

I'm hiding in this thread until I've caught up on SEED-D. *cries at the mild spoilers in above sig*
So, what I didn't count on was suitcase room. My wild ambitions of buying tens of models were very quickly crushed! But I got four across varying grades plus all kinds of supplies, and I'm gonna spend a looooong time on each so they'll be perfect. I got:
MG Qubeley - Such a classic design! Couldn't resist the thing as soon as I saw it.
1/100 Astray Red Frame - Posibility of a MG and a sword? Where can you go wrong!
1/100 Destiny First Production - Not much to say about this. Love davids version ^_^
HGUC 1/144 Char's Zaku - To complete my MSG Char collection, and perhaps for a spot of customisation.
I'll start on one tomorrow....the only problem is deciding which! Any help? XD

yeah man, when i go to Taiwan this october (hopefully ><)
I'm gon try to bring an extra duffel bad or something to fit the gundams lol
b/c I know I'm gon buy a shitload...when I went back last summer I could barely fit all my stuff in because I bought 1/100 Freedom, Justice, Aegis and Blitz
and thats only four 1/100's, so I'm gon try to get only 1/144's lol and maybe one or 2 1/100's
my relatives are gon be be like "holy shit" lol
but oh well
I'm planning to get...
1/144 HG DOM Trooper
1/144 HG GOUF Mass Production
1/144 HG Infinite Justice (if I don't get it here)
Whatever scale of Legend that comes out at that time.
MG Wing ZERO ver. Ka (if I don't get it here)
an Impulse of some sort...maybe 1/100 Sword
Maybe a Providence, Raider and Forbidden lol
But maybe I won't get too much b/c i should cut down on the model buying ><
I would make Char's Zaku just because it might take the least amount of time? lol
Or Destiny just because .... it's Destiny ^_^
Chances are I'm going to make my Strike Freedom before I make the Zeta A1 =\

1/100 models are around 500-600NT which is like 15$-18$ in US dollars
1/144 HG's are probably around 300NT whihc is like 10$ lol

Yeah I know. My cousin in Hong Kong has way more models than I do cause he can just buy buy buy for cheap. I have a friend who goes back to HK every other year, whenever I go over to his house I see all the boxes piled up... Asian countries other than Japan tend to get things almost just as fast. Like I saw in a lot of Hobby Shops that had the new Destiny models with an "Airmail" sticker on it. Same goes for manga, you can always find the newest manga from Japan.
XP at least you've been to Taiwan. I've never been, I was supposed to during July but the trip got cancelled cause of the typhoon. Hopefully I get to go this Christmas.

in this part of asia, we don't get models as fast as we want to... we always need to wait for the official local distributor to import stuff from japan... usually they import the more popular ones... and of course, since they are the distributor, they import in bulk... good thing the daughter of the local distributor became my college blockmate... and luckily, she also became my friend. hehehe! so i can order stuff from her and get it the next day:laugh although they do not import the official marker and that kind of stuff... i asked her if i can make a special order of a model that they do not normally carry... and she said yes... YAY! so maybe i'll order an AA, METEOR and a PG Freedom when it comes out...:amuse and i hope i get a discount...:laugh

@Kereo Nice Gaia, will you get other shots of it? Perhaps seeing the full body?
@ssosuke There's going to be a PG Freedom? I'd be so happy if there was lol If Bandai does make a PG Freedom they'd probably make Strike Freedom as well to take more money out of my pocket since I'd get both. They better make a MG and PG Justice and Infinite-Justice too. Also the Phillippines are farther away from Japan. HK, Taiwan and China are all relatively close so a lot of the stores(both large and small) usually have contacts in Japan to set them up with the newest stock.

i was strolling in a mall earlier... then i saw a modeling shop... i was looking for gundam markers but they did not have those... when i looked at their collection for sale, i saw 2 HUGE MG boxes... one was a MG MKII the other was a MG perfect zeong... i was totally shocked because i never have seen such HUGE boxes before... because i got used to HGs and small boxed MGs... when i looked inside another shop the had PG Strike and a 1/60 strike weapons pack:drool :drool :drool (although i think the weapons pack is for the 1/60 Real Detail Strike or the one some call the MG 1/60 Strike)... GOD i wanted to buy those... but money issues kept my hands away from those boxes... and i also saw the HG 1/100 Blaze+Gunner Zaku warrior that has athrun and dearka in the box... damn another model i really wanted to buy... if i only had the money now... :crying
Next week is my final exam and i only have 2 for this term... so ill be getting more free time to retouch my saviour... and i already translated saviour's color guide... so ill be getting those tamiya paints next week... hopefully i can make my saviour look more decent this time arround...

Doesn't it seem like Bandai has been rather slow with the release of the 1/100 HG kits for GSD? Out of the five original Gundams, only Chaos and Impulse(s) have been released 1/100 HG. Abyss, Saviour and Gaia still haven't been released while Strike Freedom and Destiny have already been.

They knew Destiny and S-Freedom would sell really well in comparison to if they had released any other MS from the series. Despite the models not selling well as a whole, from what I've seen the Destiny and S-Freedom have sold very well.

Strike Freedom more so than Destiny.
Infinite Justice will probably bring in huge amounts of sales as well.
sidenote: i got my Strike Freedom this morning lol
might start it up in like a day or two.
and its first edition..woohoo i did not waste money

I'm pretty sure Saviour would've sold really well. I've been waiting for its 1/100 HG release since GSD started. And since I saw the 1/144 HG Abyss I'm waiting for its 1/100 HG version too. I just hope they make a 1/100 HG I-Justice. I prefer I-Justice to S-Freedom.

Make your Freedoms quick, you guys, so I can see if it really is worth buying. I've probabl y missed the 1st edition by a long shot by now.
Gonna go snap together the HGUC Zaku II. *shrugs* Nothing better to do, and I don't feel like painting the cute little blighter. My Destiny has been salvaged, and hopefully it'll turn out well. It's cheesy, but in my mind I've kinda dubbed it "Dark Destiny"...I've toned down the colours to what I feel is more appropriate for its role and character in the series. Pics up when complete!

My S-Freedom box is in much better condition than my Destiny box. It looks like someone intentionally beat the shite out of my Destiny box. Plan on getting a few models at Otakon. I'll tell you guys all about the models I get. I want the MG Hyakushiki, because I'll be damned if I ever pick up that (non-gold plated) Hyakushiki with that ugly ballute pack.

I'm gona start paint my models with my HG 1/100 Burning Gundam that I just ordered. If I can't get a gundam pen for panel lining, whats a good alternative?

regular fine tip art pens... its the next best thing... although im warning you that those pens take forever to dry up... so let it sit for a day or two to make sure it dries... another option would be buying REALY fine tip brushes that Tamiya sells... those brushes are so insanely small that the tips can be as small/fine as a big needle's point. but i would only recomend them if you had a really steady hand... :tem

Just finished the 1/100 Destiny. Overall, a good model, but with some bad points.
Firstly, the hands are TERRIBLE. You have to take them apart every time you want them to hold something new, and they fit together so snugly that this becomes a project in itself. I never thought I'd say this, but i really do prefer master grade hands.
Secondly, the carriers for the sword and launcher rifle are incredibly loose, and will fall off at the tiniest breeze.
Thirdly, the first production crap is a waste of money. The stand isn't adjustable, is a horrible colour, and is very poorly designed. The instructions aren't clear enough - I had to take the bastard thing apart twice to get it right. Make sure you concentrate on that part, people ^_^;; And the new hips are silly too, because you can't interchange them. So you either have normal legs or have legs that constantly look like a turkey.
However, it does look kinda cool on the stand. And the sword is so great. XD

nice destiny =)
your panel lines are a lot more visible than mine lol XD
but yeah the things that hold the weapons are very loose =/
and the extra hip piece is a pain in the ass to change because you have to take apart basically the entire waist.
iuno if its just mine but my destiny's right leg cant go that high lol
like... if i move it further apart... it slowly comes back lol it doesnt stay.
but its still good =)
and yup...everytime you wanna make it into a new position you have to take apart the hands lol
mine is still in the position where its holding the cannon
oh well lol
sidenote I started Strike Freedom
8 funnels actually took a while =/
now painting the thruster on its wings because it comes in a completely different color for some reason -_-
