There are spoilers- and I have attempted to seal these spoilers as best as I can. However, the very nature of such a thread can bring about spoilers- so be careful.
Hypothosis- 1.) The Curse Seal works on a similar chakra pattern as the Sharingan, and 2.) may serve to Orochimaru's downfall because of the method to activate the Mangekyou Sharingan and the nature of the Curse Seal.
Part 1
A. The Curse Seal is a kinjutsu, requiring the near-death state of it's barer- and creates huge amounts of physical pain for power.
B. The Sharingan is a bloodline limit, requiring psychological havok to activate it's full power- and *possibly* creates a huge amount of emotional pain.
C. Both share the same three-tome feature (while the Sharingan is progressive, it's most common form is the three-tomes)
a. Also, this sign is used by Orochimaru on his snakes durring the Battle against Konoha and in his hideout.
(Induction)- It's possible that the Curse Seal and Sharingan uses the same STYLE of chakra consumption, allocation, etc.
Part 2
A. The Mangekyou Sharingan requires you to kill your closes friend.
B. The Curse Seal creates an attachment to the giver of the seal so that individual could be controled.
(Implication)- Because of this, The giver of the Curse Seal runs the risk of being killed for the Mangekyou Sharingan by a possesser of the Sharingan bloodline limit, as it requires a person to kill someone with a close emotional attachment that the Curse Seal obviously follows.
Highlight the areas to remove them- at your own risk- they contain manga spoilers.
This is not a big leap of logic- the Curse Seal and Sharingan exhibits similar features- and with this relationship, can make Sasuke a dangerous opponent... if he can bring himself to kill Orochimaru.
Feel free to debunk with facts I could've missed.
