What's your favorite gundam series?

It would probably be a tie between G Gundam and Gundam SEED, before SEED came along G Gundam was the only series that held my interest. I don't want to say that the other series were confusing but I was young and didn't want to watch anything that force me to think beyond my normal faculties. It's called 0083 Stardust Memory, and yes it's one of my favourites. The 0080 one is the War in the Pocket, a very sad tragedy and is also one of my favourites.

In fact, from what I've watched so far (0080, 0083, 08 Team, F91, 0079 One Year War, W) I liked them all. I plan to watch Z and ZZ and V to finish the entire UC timeline. :)

My favourite Gundam series is Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny. Why?

The animating, music, story, is simply more appealing to me than the other Gundam series I've seen has. The main set-backs of the other older Gundam series is mostly the extreme re-usage of the same scenes, over and over again. SEED and SEED Destiny still has some problem with re-usage of scenes but it's not that much of a set-back compared to the older ones. Anyway. The minus with G SEED and G SEED Destiny is the character designs. Almost all characters look the same. It's almost as if it's the same face on all characters but with different eyes, different hairstyle and color.

And of course, Freedom is there. One of the main reasons it's my fav Gundam. :P

Seed is my favorite, other than that I have a hard time choosing between Zeta and 08th MS Team as my second fave. Seed Destiny is pretty freakin' good so far, but I'll wait till that finishes up before I put it up there as a favorite next to Seed.

Anyways, I from what I hear SEED is a remake of a previous gundam series but with better animation (find by me ).

It has some similarities, but also has a fair amount of differences. I heard that it wasn't a remake, but a Gundam for the new...um..."era" I suppose. Something that will draw in new fans, but also keep the old Gundam fans happy. I do hear people making comparisons between Mobile Suit Gundam and Seed though. Hell, I can be accused of it too, sometimes I even look for similarities between Zeta Gundam (the sequel to MSG) and Seed Destiny (sequel to Seed of course). Can't help it :laugh

I've seen Mobile Suit Gundam, Gundam X, Gundam G, Gundam Wing, Gundam SEED and Gundam F91 as of recently.

Among those series, I'd choose Gundam SEED as my favorite. Why? Well, it's new, and despite its story and character flaws, I love the mecha fight scenes and designs. Oh yeah, can't forget Freedom, too! :D

Next would be Gundam X. Original storyline, less depressing and of course, the Double X!

I gotta admit the Zeon suit is pretty special and they haven't "reused" this designed yet. But the Zaku design has been so reused that it has become quite obsolete imho.

Okay I've seen Gundam Wing, 08th MS Team, and G Gundam. I thought I would ask in this thread which series you would recommend me to watch next because I haven't seen a Gundam series in awhile.

Going back to topic, Gundam Wing was really good, but I love the Gouf Custom from 08th MS Team. Kind of tough to say which series was better, but I think 08th MS Team was a tad better than Gundam Wing.

So Far Ive finished watching Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, Gundam Seed, and War In A Pocket. Im currently watching Gundam Seed Destiny and started watching 08th MS Team and Gundam Zeta.
At the moment War In A Pocket is one of my favourites, Its moved me MUCH more that all the other series that Ive watched. It was only 6 episodes but it was brilliant. Guess that shows that less can sometimes be more. :wink

Yes, Zeta is the best UC series that I've seen so far. As I said in the other threads, Zeta has the best story, character development and the best cliffhanger of a series. Though I may still get the chance of watching other UC series...

On the AU series, it's still Gundam X - great characters and story despite mediocre mecha battles. X is the only AU series that made me feel that I'm watching a UC series. Don't know why, but I felt that way. SEED now comes second since well, I've been exposed to it too much. And Destiny... I can't say anything about it yet. Got to finish it first before I give my opinion, but so far, it isn't promising yet.

Of the series I have seen, I'd say my top three are tied. Zeta, SEED, and ZZ. All three had their flaws, yet all three provided requisite amounts of awesome and cohesive storytelling to make me enjoy them.

Following them would be MSG, G, W, and, underneath a potential Gundam about my cat's litter box, would be SEED Destiny.

In the OVA and movie portions, I'd say that I enjoyed 08th the most of the OVAs I've seen. Followed closely by F91, 0080, and CCA. 0083 was okay until Nina became an idiot in addition to being annoying, and the Neue Ziel saves it.

I have yet to see V, X, and Turn-A.

I'd say my all time favorite Gundams would be Zeta, SEED, ZZ, and the 08th.

Must say I agree with Mindless last post as well. I watched Wing again after seeing so of the other series and had the urge to throw myself out of a window after a couple of episodes.

My favorite series so far have been 1. Zeta 2. Gundam X 3. Seed 4. Victory (though it's all kinds of depressing) 5. ZZ which would have ranked higher expect the first 15 or so episodes are brutal to sit though but after that I'd put it up there almost with Zeta until it slows down again in towards the end.

Too freaking many Gundam Wing fans here. Gundam Wing is properly one of the worst Gundam shows ever.

As for my favorite, I have to give it to Zeta Gundam. I've only seen the 3 movies version of the original series, but in my opinion the 0079 movies and all the OVAs around that point in time isn't quite on the level of Zeta. They were good mind you, but not that good. I also enjoyed ZZ, V, Turn A and Seed quite a lot.

Sorry, I REALLY have to take a step back to post a disagreement with this one.
I DO like 'Wing' for its deep characters and great fight scenes, but I find the designs of the five Gundams to be the most unworkable in (almost) the entire franchize. Considering that M.S Gundam's claim to fame is its realism, these suits seem to belong more to the 'fantasy' kind of anime, like Voltron and Dangaio. Now, where do I begin?
1. The Wing's Buster Cannon. It's designed with three power cannisters, which would suggest it could be fired 3 times, but is seen firing a good dozen FULL POWERED shots before ruunig dry.
2. The Heavy Arms. With all those guns and rocket launchers, did the designers remeber to leave room FOR A POWER SOURCE? And with such a slim frame, just how the hell does it stay balanced when it's blasting away for all its worth?
3. The Sandrock. While I do get that Gundanium alloy allows for superior protection, does it make sense that the Sandrock can be standing at ground zero whenever it slices right through an enemy suit's (Fusion!) reactor and it blows sky-high? No risk of radiation poisoning for lil' Quatre, or even a little knock-back from the shock waves?
If anyone out there has a better understanding of Wing's technology, feel free to rebuttle. Peace.

Ops, almost forgot to mention my faves. I'm a totally devoted fan of the original Universal Century arc. Love the 3 movies of the original, think Zeta is awsome (Own the limited ed. box set!!:P ) , and Shar's Counterattack has some of the best mecha and design concepts I've ever seen.
I like the fillers, "War in the Pocket" and "Stardust Memory", though the new mecha at the end of Stardust COMPLETELY throws off the technological continuity of the series:huh . Ah, well, can't win 'em all.

I for one, heavily dislike Gundam Wing. Sure, I liked it when it first showed up on TV, but I was ten and I thought blood, cussing, and death was cool. But Six years later I look back on the series with some rather disgusting thoughts. Not only were the characters unrealistic (save for maybe Duo) and the Gundam NEVER getting scratched (I mean come on, even the original Gundam and the Zeta got marked up) and most of the characters confusing and doing stupid things, I really do not like it, at least compared to soem of the other Animé out there these says.

My favorite Gundam series/OVA/Movies would probably be...

Movie: The MSG trilogy (I can't remmeber the series that well, but I did like the dub voices, too bad a dub track isn't on the DVDs)

Series: As of late the only [full] series I've seen are Zeta and G, but I'll have to go with G Gundam, the writing and directing made this show what Gundam is truely about, relationships. Domon and Rain aren't Newtypes or Coordinators that psyichly and instantly understand each other. They develop their relationship through time and trust.

OVA: The only OVA I've actually seen is 8th MS Team, but from what I've read, Stardust Memory and War in the Pocket aren't as good as this sterlling war-drama.

Zechs was the worst Char clone of all time, and the final battle made no sense, because Heero and Zechs relationship wasn't like Amuro and Char's.

Characters changed sides for no reasons, Relena did a complete 180 OFF SCREEN, it literally had plot holes, and Heero remained the exact same for 47 episodes before doing a complete 180 for the final two.

Wing was without a doubt, the Worst Gundam show ever.

Its very existence is a blemish on the franchise.

Regardless of how many times you persuade Wingers to believe that Gundam Wing isn't the best Gundam series in 27 years, it's useless.

Just let them be. They have their reasons for liking GW that aren't considered good by others. Just respect their choices and opinions of it, though some of them just say that Wing is good without an explanation. :P

I liked all of the Universal Century timeline right up to Char's Counterattack. E.g. Mobile Suit Gundam, MS 08th Team, 0080 War in the Pocket, 0083 Stardust Memory, Zeta Gundam, Double Zeta Gundam, and Char's Counterattack. I also really enjoyed Mobile Suit Gundam Wing. I didn't particularly like G Gundam or either Seed series.

Wing's 'story' was just MSG, Zeta, ZZ, and CCA all condensed into 49 episodes, except with the reasons the characters actually did stuff removed.

Yea,your right on most of those things. The show was supposed to be at least one season longer. But, the original writer left, and the original director left after the first 5 episodes. If they had stayed on, then it would have been longer, made more sense. The reason on why the gundam pilots would have done what they did would have been in there.

They actually did have a reason for the final battle between Heero and Millardo. It was because they never finished there first fight, second fight, and even third fight. So that battle was just over fighting...never like char and armaro. (It was a sucky reason, I know)

And since, I sorta figured where the writers were going, Wing is still one of my favs even though for that B.S. The one that was totallt blasphemy to the Gundam name was G-gundam.

Well, the whole point behind Wing was that they didn't want war and decided to stop killing people, but there is some blood. A couple people get shot, lol :P

My favorite series are tied between Wing and Seed. Seed Destiny was good, but not as good as the other 2. I haven't actually seen any of the other ones. Wing and Seed both played in Canada, but none of the others. And I watched Seed Destiny on youtube, lol. I really liked the Strike Freedom though, so badass. That and Custom Wing Zero are my 2 favorite. I actually have a Custom Wing Zero desktop picture that I love and have used for like 3 years now. Gundam SEED was the first Gundam series I watched and at the moment it's my favourite with Mobile Suit Gundam in second, even though I did notice some similarities between First Gundam and Gundam SEED. SEED Destiny was good, but not as good as SEED. There were some moments in SEED Destiny that made me go "what the hell?" But what I did like best in SEED Destiny were the Strike Freedom and the Akatsuki. At the moment, I'm watching Zeta Gundam, so after I watch that there may be a few changes, if any, as to which Gundams are my favourite.

Right... here I go...
1) Gundam X - mecha fights got better as the series went on, but the main thing was the storyline and characters, I think Garrod and Tifa's relationship was the best done I've seen in a Gundam series. Also gives an interesting answer to what Newtypes really are (dispite being AU)

2) Zeta Gundam - Lets see... its got the drama, political stuff and brilliant battles. Really does the Anti War message in Gundam well. The final fight was brilliant too, right down to Kamilles... hmm, original use of the Zeta's Mobile Armour mode XD

3) 08th MS Team - A side of Gundam that we don't see often - the Grunts point of view! Brilliant fights, good characters (Norris pwnz, enough said) and almost all of the battles take place on the ground, which makes a nice change.

4) Gundam Seed - A very well done adaptation of the orignal MSG storyline and even goes off into its own orignal story. Also has good MS designs and emotion is done well (much better than Wing at any rate :P). Also my first Gundam after watching Wing, and I liked Seed a lot more so It'll always be good IMO. Destiny's a different story, good for a while but amazingly crap at the end.

5) G Gundam - Domon. Enough said :P

Well I haven't seen all the series out there but 8th MS team is by far my favorite.

1. Main character wasn't overpowered or super special in any way, he couldn't run into a crowed of 50 enemies and blow everyone up coming out with a few scratches.

2. Norris = best villain that isn't really a villain, ever. He shows what an Ace in Gundam should be, someone who uses superior tactics and lays down his life for the good of the organization (and he actually dies for it unlike other cop-outs)

3. Fights were amazing, they have a much more realistic feel then other Gundam animes.

(OT: I have seen Gundam SEED, Gundam wing, and parts of Mobile Suit, are there any other Gundam series out there similar to 8th MS team? As in, the main character doesn't have godmode enabled and the fights are at least semi realistic?)

Gundam isn't the franchise for you, if you liked Wing. Wing is the blacksheep of the franchise, because of how terrible and derivative it was. If you like shows such as Wing with messes of plots, no character development, and flashy action above everything else, you're better off not pursuing Gundam as a franchise.

If you've seen the UC, you'd know those three are jokes.

G-Gundam isn't even a friggin gundam, It's just a load of sterotypes with a mortal kombat kind of feel to it.

SEED tried to make a contemporary Mobile Suit Gundam remake, but failed miserably. Leaving the viewer with a crappy cast of characters, flashy mobile suits, and emo/teenaged drama.

Wing is the least pathetic of the three, but that's not saying much. It focused on melodrama and flashy mobile suits. While trying to capture the magic found in the first series.

The mobile suits were in fact very cool, but the plot is paper thin and flimsy. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense most of the time, and doesn't seem to want to do anything more then to get you to finish the episode and buy the box set.

Once again, Zeta and majority of the UC blow those three out of the water.

Gundam Wing for me. I'm only about 10 episodes into SEED right now. It just doesn't draw me in like Wing does... yet.

Kira Yamato can't match up to the standard that Heero Yuy set. He was such a complex character, and never failed to deliver. Kira just strikes me (so far) as an average shonen main character archtype.

Of course, this is all subject to change, perhaps.

The seven Gundam pilots in Wing (Heero, Duo, Quatre, Trowa, Wufei, Zechs, and Treize) all had such fascinating stories that I've yet to see from other characters in any Gundam series.



Oh, and for some reason, I can't stand the animation in Gundam SEED. The quick camera panning and badly blended 3D are sooooo offputting.
