Just wanted to know what was the first anime you've ever watched. I remember watching sailor moon awhile ago. Got really interested in the series (especially the last one: sailor stars). I was about 14 or 15 and thought it was cool. But DBZ was the anime that really got me hooked, tons of action, some comedy and decent storyline.

Dragonball Z was my first real anime, where i knew it was anime. I was all over Transformers and Voltron in the 80's just cuz i was little and thought they were cool. DBZ will always be special to me like drug users always like pot... it opened my horizons to all sorts of new anime (thanks toonami). They made some bad-ass fighting games too (Hyper Dimension, Budokai 3)

Back in the day when I was just a little scrub, I was the only kid on my block and the only kid out of my playmates from school that had cable TV.

The first anime I ever watched was Robotech when it first came out in the US around 1985 with my cousin, I was around 3 yrs old. But I actually started really watching it a year later when they started playing the re-runs and I loved it ever since.

That is why Macross/Robotech is and always will be my #1 favoite anime.

Wow....this thread brings me wayyyy back (as well as back to the fourms after a LONG ABSENSE)...My First one might have been VOLTRON which was about these guys who piloted robotic lions which came together to form one big human/lion robot, it was a VERY sentai show.

But I'd have to say the one that got me into anime, the show that i watched religously right before 'STREET SHARKS' on USA's 'Action Xtreame Team' was....

SAILOR MOON, thats a classic right there, surprisingly the dub was pretty good compared to todays horrible dubbing by 4kids, (they could swear and smoke), man they should lisence the last one soon just for memories.

Finish watching the Sailor moon stars series last week. And sadly if they ever dubbed they would have to butcher the series with countless edits and totally get rid of certain episodes. The last series was pretty good but went in a different direction than the other series. Let's just say that making Michiru and Haruka close cousins in the previous series instead of what's obvious won't work in this series. Three words: Sailor Star Fighters, find out more about them and then you'll understand.

Yes, I'm well aware that Robotech is comprised of 3 separate titles and butchered script (at least, that's my point of view), but it truly introduced not only myself, but mainstream culture to Japanese animation around the world (trust me, I still remember the cult following Robotech created in Chile)

I used to watch all the stuff that they would carry at rental places , most of which was not very good and dubbed. That which I actually remember enjoying at the time was Project A-ko , Vampire Hunter D , Akira , Devil Hunter Yohko , Fist of the North Star etc,

I got into DBZ fansubs around 97 or so , and that lead to me actually getting really into anime series .

After that, I saw Akira on Sci-fi channel around 5am one day. It thought it was weird, and I didn't get it (I was like 9 or something), but it got me interested. Then Pokemon and DBZ sealed the deal.

Actually it was an anime movie about an old man, who was about to die. Though he was on the verge of death, his entire life was repeated inside his life, it was quite cool. I was about 5 and had no idea what they were talking about.

Samurai Pizza cats was one of the first I've seen. Those cats were called Speedo, Guedo and Polyester right? I can't believe I remember that.

The very first anime that I ever saw though was Robotech. The only scene I remember from back then was a Veritech in guardian mode landing in a forest. I still rate Macross as the best mech anime ever.

First anime I ever watched was The End of Evangelion. The movie... I swear I have never been so confused in all my life. However, this inspired me to watch the whole series and after watching it many times... I'm still confused as heck :) but what can you do? It's still my favorite anime though!

Galaxy Express 999 i saw when i was about 9 or 10(guessing) and i just watched it cause it was a cartoon that was interesting and not funny to what i was accustom to. Then after i figured out that was 'anime' i got into digimon 1st and 2nd season and those were sweet for their time :P

I watched Pokemon, got addicted to it. Meaning, I got all the cards, played the games, I was a pokenerd. Then, I bought Pokemon Gold on ebay, and that ruined the entire series for me. Nothing to look forward to, after playing the whole game in Japanese.

Then, I started watching DBZ during the whole Namek saga. Good show, except after watching the entire series about 300 times,(Cartoon Network repeats fucking a million times) I lost interest. It was around the part with Buu.

Then Adult Swim came out, and I learned about Cowboy Bebop. Good show.

Anime rocks.

Choudenji Machine Voltes V - yes, this was so popular here in the Philippines in the 80's. It was later replayed a decade later and it became a bigger hit. Oh yeah, this is one of those "combining robots series" and that was the formula followed by Voltron.

Not to forget, Yoshiyuki Tomino of the Gundam fame is one of the directors of this one (if not directors, just one of the staff, I don't exactly know). Though it's not exactly one of his works, for this one is less tragic than what Tomino is used to doing. :)

almost 8 years ago, the battle angel alita ovas(well first non main stream morning cartoon anime)
when i saw that i was amazed that an animation could be created that had a good story, lovable characters and violence like i had bever seen before.
this just blew my mind and opened me up to a whole world i had never thought existed.

Well, at first I thought sailor moon and DBZ were the first anime that I laid my eyes on, but in actuality it was Ranma 1/2. And if there was ever an anime to watch for the first time, ranma 1/2 would definetly be right up there. I watched a subed copy back in 96 and loved it. I eventaully started watching other anime (as previously mentioned), and have continued expanding on the ever changing world of anime.
