Who would be the best parent? Worst? (Spoilers)

This mainly focuses on the jounin and sannin, but the younger characters can be used in this discussion as well. Who do you think would make the best and worst parents?

I think Gai would be a good father-weird, eccentric, but as someone mentioned in another thread, he's definately dedicated, hands on, and has *Dad* qualities. I think Iruka would also be a good father.

Jiraiya? He's the bad uncle you don't let your kids around.

As far as motherhood goes, perhaps Shizune or Kurenai, who knows?

Don't laugh but in the beginning I seriously thought Gai and Lee were father and son since they looked the same and acted the same. So yeah, I do think Gai would be a good father.

I think Gai would make an awesome dad. Iruka as well, seeing as he is basically like Naruto's father, and is nice, caring and giving. I could see Kakashi as a father too somehow, he's always seemed like a father figure to his team. Hmm.. and I think Shizune would make the best mother out of all the women.

Father would either be iruka, or asuma. Both know what it takes to be a great father.

Most all of the Jounin are pretty responsible. So besides some of the reckless ones, I'd say most would be good parents. I'd stray from any of the Sannin. I dont think they could even maintain an intimate relationship anymore. Been living alone too long...

Just about any of the Konoha males would be decent dads - Gai would be the best though...he would be so involved, but he doesn't smother, and he respects his underlings as if equals almost.

Tsunade could be a great mom, she was very protective of her brother, and very loving with Dan. Shizune would be a more stereotypical mom - she nags a bit...course she has Tsunade , the sake-drinking paperwork-hating Hokage to deal with. Ino would give her daughter a horrible self image, she needs to stop obsessing about weight. Hinata is a doormat, still, somewhat...but she has potential, once she gets more backbone.

Not a lot of well defined females in the series to go from...Temari and Sakura could be good moms for boys particularly cause they have both been on teams with 2 rivals and or difficult/emo males (I love Kankuro but he was a lil bitchy-emo at start). Kurenai, I like her as a person but...she needed to tell HInatas dad (nicely) off, and didnt..I dont think that set a good example for Hinata...like she didnt deserve to have someone stand up for her, or passively condoning what he said..

Anko could be a good mom - sadly, she knows what it was like to be used and abused as a kid, and while she has a taste for blood, she seems playful and friendly and loyal and I think she'd be extra careful to make sure her kids didnt get mistreated like she was (by Orochimaru).

Anywho...need more well developed women in the series, there isnt a mom version of Gai really ><

PS - I include Jiraiya in the good dad category cause he's been that, in a way , to Naruto...just needs a partner/mom around to monitor him to not teach their kids anything naughty - though if Jiraiya had a daughter, I think he'd worship her, call her Princess or something, and totally reform.

Ooo you hit some good points. I forgot about Choujis dad....he is mellow and cool (much like Chouji). WHich reminded me of KIBA....Kiba has a mom that isnt a doormat/housewife/big sister type...his mom seems cool. She seems to over love and guidance where needed, but she tells him hard truths as well, she isnt too soft.

And yeah, Tsunade clearly mothers Naruto but in the best possible way - she doesn't coddle him, but she makes sure he is included on missions she thinks are important - she loves him but you can tell shes grooming him to be Hokage. And she isnt overprotective...she knows sending him out has risks but she knows he needs to take them. She's an awesome Hokage because shes a good mom-type and visa versa - shes raising him without smothering or hindering or being too soft on him.

Gai- Ultimate father figure
Arashi(Yondaime)- over protective goofy father.
Kakashi- lazy father let's you do whatever
Genma- Regulates when he needs too
Asuma- Tough ass father(but not too tough) makes you join the military(he still seems like he
would be an awsome dad though)
Hayate- father who puts you through medical school
Iruka- emotional father
Sarutobi- great father spends most of his time working instead of kids.
(seemed that way to meh i mean who else knew who his son was before the second arc?)
Jiraiya- drunken father
Orochimaru- scary father

Cynycyl, indeed I too have thought about the other parents, but didn't think that they were too average to point out. But I'll elaborate a bit.

I forgot about Shino's Dad. He was very caring, and I would have him on the top end of the parent-charts.

Kiba's mother is definitely the strict type. But really most we saw of her was from the fillers so not sure how Kishimoto really intends her to really be.

Ino's parents seem to be average. Apparently they keep her in-line by tending the flower shop, but also let her time to socialize.

Sakura's mother, like Ino's parents. Nothing steller, but keeps Sakura in line, like any other parent. But you can tell that Sakura was raised by a caring family.

Now for the dead parents:

Sasuke's mother was clearly a loving mother, but his father the opposite - gruff and strict. They balanced each other out.

Neji's Dad was very loving, if he didn't have to die he would have raised Neji well.

Yondaime, (if truely is Naruto's father) cared enough for him from harm during the Kyuubi fight (from the new Naruto book - approved by Kishi). And to tweek the seal to give Naruto the Kyuubi's power, and requested that he be viewed as a hero........... that to me says he was a great father.

Sandaime, was a real caring father and grandfather. Cared for the village, Naruto, and his own family (even with some family quirks). :P

Kankurou would be gorgeous father if he stops using make up. he's carring and protective.

Kimimaro will love his children so much and so does Gaara.

Kurenai is a lovely mother.

Shizune is a mother that sometimes put herself as friend to her children. She's a "kewl mother type".

Tsunade acts different as mother. she's going to love, care, and protect her children.

I'm afraid to have a mother like Anko, so i delete her from my list. So does to Temari.

Ino will be a typical mother: shallow, concentrate to beauty and wealthy. loving gossip. I delete her from my list of "good mother"

i was thinking about good couple parents and...

Tsunade/Jaraiya: They would have their faults like gambling and Jaraiya's pervertedness but i think they would both bring something different as a parent. Tsunade would be caring and very protective but fairly tough and i could see Jariaya treating a son like he does Naruto. If he had a daughter he would probably adore her and she would beat him up for being a pervert.

Asuma/Kurenai: I think their kid would be really cool and strong. Asuma seems like he would be a tough but really awesome dad and in the manga he's often seen with his team. Kurenai would have to grow a bit older maybe(less of an older sister), before having a kid but she would probably be the cool, honest mom you could talk to.

Sakura/Naruto: I can really see them as parents (maybe not the best parents but...) Naruto would adore and encourage his kid son or daughter and give them the good childhood that he wished he could have had. I think Sakura would be a the type of mom that would nag the dad a lot but also really enjoy watching him with their kid. A proud mom.

Other parents:

Gai: Would be an amazing dad! Maybe not typical but he would be really loving and helpful. He'd also make sure that you did something with your life. If Gai was your dad, regardless of your strengths and weaknesses, you would be succesful. (Like Lee!)

Orochimaru: No comment, he must not breed at all costs.

Iruka: Is what I think of when I imagine a father. Nurturing and understanding.

Naruto (future): He went through the hell of loneliness; he was the village pariah for the first twelve years for his life. He was treated with some harsh neglect and was generally. He never knew about parents, brothers, sisters, relatives. If this guy had a daughter or a son, he would make sure his child(ren) would never know or experience the pain he endured. He'll grin, play with them, spend every minute of every day, and hell, when they're ready, he'll start teaching them how to be their own shinobi, teach them jutsu, all of that.

Simply put, he'd be there for his kids, and more than anyone in his own age group, I'd wager.

Sandaime is the very symbol of the word patriarch. He was the entire village's father, it seemed. But maybe his own family could've been neglected by him because of his work.

Hinata: Look at her demeanor, look at her character, look at her personality. She screams mother.

Neji: Somehow, I think he'd make a damned good father. He's a loner; a child, I think would complete him more. And of course, if you're a Hyuuga, in a few years, the best teacher you could ask for will be Neji. I bet Neji's child would be one of the best Hyuuga.

Kakashi: He's been a pretty lonely guy his entire life, until he met Team 7. Someone like Kakashi needs a family. Besides, doesn't he want someone to carry on the Hatake name?

Jiraiya would probably become a semiprotective father if he had a daughter. Since he's a pervert, he'd be on the lookout for other perverts looking at his daughter. The Super Perv would become Super Daddy when it came to protecting his little princess from unwanted eyes/suitors.

Actually Itachi seems pretty calm and cool when he doesn't have his mood swings. Orochimaru however cares only about his ambition and you can't trust him. Also he might want to be your mother.

I find it funny how some people in this thread suggested any of the rookies (no matter in what combination) as "good parents" :S. Don't get me wrong, but none of the rookies (i.e. whole Team 7, 8, 9, 10) can be considered for such a role right now, and we don't know how they will further develop. Even more so, almost all of them are still kids themselves (even behavior-wise), I don't see any of them capable to take responsibility for a child. At least that's what I think.

On topic, it's really hard to say who would make good parents. Tsunade seems caring and strong-minded, although her drinking and gambling behavior kind of speaks against her as a mom. Same goes for Jiraiya as a dad with his pervyness :amuse and the fact that he took Naruto's money for his own sake. And Kakashi seems to care more about books than humans :laugh !

The only one person I can think of that suits a father role would be Iruka.

Simply based on their sympathy factor...

Iruka- so obvious. He took near fatal wounds to protect Naruto, always pushed him to do his best, provided emotional support and was just generally there for him. Awesome parenting potential.

Kakashi- The type to hide his care for others but more than makes up for it in his actions. Does seem to be neglectful and guilty of favortism. (Sasuke)
However, was still able to pull through for Naruto when he needed him (current training)

Tsunade- Deep emotional attachment, more than willing to protect a loved one. Seems to have been responsible for Nawaki's care. Can possibly be protective to the point of possible self-harm.

Jiraiya- While he does have MANY bad habits, seems to be more than capable of caring for and providing support for others. Taking it upon himself to train Naruto during the search for Tsunade and taking up the task again before the time-skip.

Gai- Protective, nurturing, and caring. Has given Rock Lee purpose in life and seems to be willing to protect people no matter what the cost.

Kurenai- Seems to be very protective of Hinata. Possibly cares much about her wellbeing seeing how dissapointed her father is with her.

Of course, I feel all Jounin and Chuunin senseis have the potential to be great parents. Simply because they already care for younger charges and are charged with providing emotional support as well as training.

I agree with Majob said about most of the jonin and chunnin senseis having the potential to be great parents.

Anyway, I'll break them down some:

Older ninja:

*Iruka- Basically goes without saying-- I think most of us here could see him being a great parent, with his interaction with Naruto n' all. He's kind and nurturing, without being too much a pushover, and is about as close to a perfect parent as any ninja could be.

*Gai- He actually seems like he'd be pretty good parent-- as someone else here said, he seems like the kind of dad you don't want to introduce to your friends, but are really proud of deep down.

*Kakashi- Hmmm... this one's a bit of a toughie. He seems to be the kind of dad who'd be a little stand-off-ish and awkward at first, but would get the hang of things after a while. I don't know how to explain it, really. He has his flaws, and would probably be a little distant, but overall I think he'd be a pretty good parent. (And for some reason, I can easily picture him with a daughter. WTF? O_o)

*Asuma- I think he'd be a pretty good father, actually, albeit lazy at times.

*Ibiki- I saw someone mention him earlier, and although I was pretty "O_o" at first, now that I think about it, he might not be so bad, considering he understands the human mind and all.

*Kurenai- She'd probably be a pretty good mother, although it'd take her a while to get used to it. (Oh gawd, I just pictured her as one of those moms that go to school for a conference and have a bunch of little boys say she's hot.)

*Anko- Hmmm... she actually wouldn't be too bad. I can picture her as the sort of mom that yells out crazy things to her kid to embarass them. (Out of love, of course. XD)

*Shizune- She'd be a good mother. Maybe a little stict and nit-picky at times, but still a good mother. (As far as the jonin go, she'd be the best mother.)

Sannin (Provided that they were younger.) :

*Orochimaru- No way in hell, for obvious reasons.

*Tsunade- She'd probably be a good mother, even though she'd have her faults.

*Jiraiya- Overall, he'd actually be a pretty good dad. He'd have his fair shair of faults, too, though. (If he had a daughter he'd probably be a bit overprotective, and if he had a son... oh gawd.)

Missing-nin:

*Any Akatsuki Members- These characters are interesting and all, but none of them should EVER breed. They're just too messed up in the head.

Rookie 9 n' Such(Provided they were older.) :

*Naruto: There are no doubts in my mind that he'd be a good father. Of course, I have a feeling that he'd spoil his kid a bit and get them into some mischief, so he might need someone to reprimand him occasionally. *cough*Sakura*coughHACK*

*Sasuke: Erm... sorry, but I just can't see him being a dad. Maybe if he got over some of his issues and had someone to help him out, he'd be alright, albeit overprotective, but seeing how he is now... I don't see it.

*Lee: He'd probably be a lot like Gai, only I have the feeling he wouldn't be able to discipline his kid as well and would spoil them a bit.

*Neji: Hmm... he'd probably be a good father-- A little distant, but loving when it really counts.

*Kiba: He'd be like Naruto, for the most part.

*Shino: He'd be a good father. Maybe a little distant, but still very caring and loving.

*Kankuro: Considering how much he matured in the time skip, he'd be a good father, for the most part.

*Gaara: As much as I wish Gaara's life would be near-perfect from now on, I don't think he'd be the best father. Sure, he'd have good intentions and care about his kid deeply, but I'm not sure if he'd be able to show it very well. Maybe if he had a partner that was able to make up for this, he'd be alright. Then again, he might be a good father on his own-- I can't tell.

*Shikamaru- He'd probably be like Asuma as far as fatherhood goes. He'd care deeply for his kid, but might be a bit lazy at times.

*Chouji- I have no doubt in my mind that he'd be a good dad. ^.^

*Sakura- She'd probably be a good mother, although possibly a bit overprotective and strict at times. If she had someone who to keep her in line, she'd do really well. *cough*Naruto*coughcough*

*Temari- She'd be like Shikamaru's mother. 'Nuff said.

*Ino- Unless she matures more and learns not to be so shallow, I don't think she'd be a great mother. She'd love her kid and all, but I think she'd be too concerned about the superficial things when it came to them- something you shouldn't be with kids.

*Hinata- She'd be a good mother as far as love and care goes, but she'd be a bit of a pushover and would probably need help disciplining her kid.

*Tenten- It's hard to be sure, but I can, for the most part, safely assume that she'd be a pretty good mother.

Ultimate Parent Pair?

Choji and Temari. I suppose I could have replaced Temari with Iruka but I wanted a pair of breeders and she has her own good qualities.

Temari is capable of tenderness, caring and coddling, but also is very strict and strong willed and possesses a mindset and intellect not unlike Shikamaru's. Choji himself is a gentle-natured and approachable person with strong ties to friends and family. Psychologically a child growing up in that home would be more blessed than cursed by it.
Biologically, there is a good bet on the children breeding with good intellects and strong, healthy bodies. With the instruction of both parents they would become well rounded nin as well, capable of long and short range prowess.


I just think that laying everything up front, these two have the best parental quality and currently offer the best to a child.

Well, I picked Sasuke and Sakura - I didn't really think about it, since Sakura would be a very loving mom, and Sasuke a strict yet not too strict dad, seeing how he can see his own father's faults. But come to think of it, Naruto and Hinata make a much more better parent pair, because Naruto knows how it feels like to be neglected and abandoned, and thus would totally spoil his son/daughter by making him or her feel loved in different ways, and when they're disobedient, become really mad and give them a scolding (assuming he'll become even more mature than he is now, as he's only fifteen), and Hinata could be the silent one who never scolds, but still warns them, and encourage them or such. Two neglected, loving parents, plus a beloved, but not a spoiled brat, makes a perfect family. ^^

Naruto is surprisingly responsible despite his irresponsibility in battle. He has lived alone all this time, he feeds himself, takes care of his apartment, saves money (although ero-sennin has taken advantage of this), he knows he's underage so he doesn't drink or anything like that (besides be a little pervy, not as bad as Jiraiya), and he cares for others. I think he would actually make a pretty good father.

I think Shikamaru would be a good father as well. He's already expressed that his ideal life includes having kids. His own father has been a pretty good dad to him as well, teaching him valuable lessons about being a ninja and about women, rofl.

The best female mother ( XD ) I can think of is Temari. She's had experience with two smaller brothers and keeping at least one of them in line. She also shows genuine concern over them, and can have this gentle side to her. She's a perfect example of a mother that would be kind but very firm at the same time.
