I've heard it's a great series and to some, even better than Naruto so I'd like to be into it.

But

I've read the manga up to the part where Sanji agrees to join Luffy and I found it so boring I couldn't read any further, I felt like I was watsing my time. Just seemed very juvenile.

Now what I'd like to know is: Where is a good place to start in the anime if I'm familiar with the charcaters, i.e I know Robin and Chopper and to be honest I don't care about their pasts (I've seen movie 6 and fell in love, so I know there is good in this anime). I heard that "The series picks up when they reach grandline". Maybe about that time is where I should be aiming for.

Don't judge me for being impatient, everyone has their tastes when it comes to stories. I need someone to make this series inetresting fo me...

Well you could just start watching the anime from where Luffy joins with Sanji. Though if you really found it that boring, One Piece is probably not for you.

And yeah, the story does pick up when they reach the Grand Line. That's when the first major story arc, Alabasta arc come's up and OP starts to get very enjoyable.

Also, you'll probably be really confused if you decide to skip episodes. That's never a good idea in any anime to be honest.

Ehhh, I wouldn't skip Nami/Arlong arc if I were you. IMO that's when One Piece gets really good. Arabasta puts it even further.

baratie is not the best arc, but pretty much after it is the arlong arc. very awesome and heartwrenching arc... so you MIGHT as well keep going. just my thoughts

Nobody can really blame you. The first 8 or so volumes you just read are indeed utter shit for the most part. :oh

I suggest you just struggle a few more volumes and check it out yourself.

I don't know anything about the anime because I don't watch it. D:

One Piece surpasses Naruto at the Arlong Arc.

Don't worry, even though that part is boring, it'll get better, I promise!

Just keep reading and if you think it's boring after the Arlong Arc and when you're in the Alabasta arc, just stop reading.

Juvenile! gasp! Oh rasberries. Whatever would cause you to feel in such a way? This is a most gripping story, full of passion, courage FRIENDSHIP, love and dreams. The dreams these adolescents share are the most endeaing things to ever have been transfered from ink to paper. I have some foresight on how you arised to this conjecture. The expostion of the narrative is trite to common folk and takes some pacing to get to. Though the stride is hit in full and the arc of Arlong and further presents a great epic. Let the adventures of Luffy and crew be your compass into your own incredible journey.

EDIT- i get good responce from new translator i glad it work!

Don't worry, you got past all of the lesser stuff if you just finished up the Don Krieg arc.

The Arlong arc and everything afterward will blow you away :thumbs

The only thing you should ever start in the middle of is Star Wars.

Just keep reading from where you are. You'll love it, I promise.

Reading the Arlong arc now...and, um...

I'd like to thank you for convincing me to continue, its a great little backstory for Nami and I want to continue now. Found my motivation as it were.

Cheers

And when they watch Naruto first and then OP, they wonder what they saw in Naruto. There's a huge thread about that going on, and I'm beginning to wonder why the hell I made that thread in the first place.

But hey, I think there was one person who said he liked both, but Naruto more, and gave good reasons as to why he liked both. I think, in a way, he kinda won among all of the Naruto supporters.

Yeah. I kinda got disillusioned for my love for Naruto after I really got into One Piece.

And I would continue with the Baratie arc... I guess. I didn't really like that arc. But the Arlong arc got my attention right away. It was definitely the turning point of One Piece for me.

Well, I would disagree with loving One Piece anime over Naruto anime (not counting fillers in either anime).

For me, I've personally enjoyed the first 135 episodes of Naruto more than any anime.

Now, One Piece manga, I would back up, as better than Naruto manga, but the Naruto manga is still my favorite manga probably due to the enjoyment I had from the Naruto anime.

Whoa, that's alot of eps to put in first place. I'd say even DBZ first 135 eps are better then again that's my opinion and yours is different so i respect that. Though Yu Yu Hakusho and One Piece are alike in the sense of starting off adverge and hitting the best arcs as they move on, it's why they are still my two Fav. Animes :)

The whole premise for a pirate anime was just an awesome idea in the first place. Then you throw in such diverse and awesome characters, great background stories, and some of the most hilarious stuff I've watched in a shonen in quite a while and there's one piece for you. Such a great series, I really didn't expect it to be any good when I first started watching it. The way Luffy acts as their captain just constantly has me grinning, the way Zoro always acts like a badass yet always helps out his comrades, even dragging chopper around through a desert, the way Sanji will sound like the only logical person and then go completely google-eyed for any girl, etc etc. Doesn't get much better then one piece. Just refrain from watching the dub if at all possible.

Meh I agree about one thing Baratie can be the most boring arc but that's because Krieg was a lame villain to be honest. Every other arc in the series is really good though... The Krieg arc was just slow.

Don't do it! You'll lose sleep watching the episodes and downloading the manga. When I started OP after the chuunin exam in naruto......I was rocking bags under my eyes for a straight week!

I thought Kreig was lame, but I kept reading due to all the great praise it got and I don't regret it. It's a lot better than Naruto and Bleach and you wont regret reading it.

During the first arcs, Odachi was more focused on pleasing the people above him since he didn't whether this series will sink or swim. So he held back a lot.

But after a year, Oda stopped worried about it.

While I don't like the art in One piece or the "wacky" atmosphere, I'd like to read the manga because I want to be a writer.
Thing is I CANNOT read books. I need something visual. I heard One Piece is a good story so if I can take some inspiration or technique away with me I'll be happy.
If you'd like to see my abilities as a writer thus far, please look at my sig.

Thank you for everyone's contributions, this is a much more supportive community than anything in the Naruto boards.

Re : Original post, I started at the Alabasta arc for anime, but I'd read the manga through Nami's backstory arc before realizing the scanlations sucked and I was getting confused. Right now I've just begun the Water 7 arc, and I skipped through filler using Wikipedia's guide.
