The reason for this thread is that I want to get back to watching Gundam, but just not any. I'd like some kind of series that is about the war, the soldiers fighting in them, not just action ŕ la Wing, but with an actual decent storyline and WAR, not just battles with two mechs and a shitload of cannon fodder.

So, anyone got any suggestions? Maybe something like 08th MS Team or After War: Gundam X?

If you haven't seen the original UC shows, do yourself a favor, and go watch them right away.

Chronologically:
Gundam 0079 - watch the 3 compilation movies, as the series itself can only be found dubbed.
Zeta Gundam - 50 episodes series
ZZ Gundam - 47 episodes series
Char's Counterattack - movie
F91 - movie
Victory Gundam - 51 episodes series

In between 0079 and Zeta there is a lot of small OAV-series created later on, however I won't say they are necessary in order to watch Zeta after finishing 0079.

I'm moreso interested in watching the ones which contain the majority of what I've listed, rather than just the entire time-line. Limited HD-space and all that.

The cream of the crop in terms of UC is in my opinion Zeta Gundam.

If you're only going to watch one UC Gundam show, then I'd suggest Zeta.

And yes it has those things you're asking for in plenty.

For AU Gundam series, I recommend After War: Gundam X. If you're into UC, you'll like this, since, despite being an AU, it feels like you're watching a UC.

It has a balance of character development and mecha battles. You won't be seeing a lot of philosophical babbling during fights, nor a lot of cannon fodder.

Not to mention that Garrod Ran is a very likeable and a very normal protagonist. He doesn't have "powers" like most Gundam protagonists have - just plain kick-ass piloting skills. :)

And it only has 39 episodes. You won't have problems with space. :wink

Ummm... Yes I will.

Problems with space = Having less than 700 mB available.

You can always just delete them after watching. But yeah, Gundam X is a great watch. Good story and great characters make this an awesome show. Too bad it was only 39 eps.

I see. Not even 39 episodes in .flv format will fit in that space.

I guess you really have no choice but to delete episodes after watching. :)

As everyone's been saying, I suggest Gundam X. It's my favorite Gundam series and not just the main protaginist, but all of the main pilots are very likeable. No special powers like Newtypes, the Zero System, or Coordiantors. Just pure kickass piloting skills. Also since the pilots are so normal they are very easy to relate too, and that just makes the series all the more enjoyable. My only pet peeve with the series is that it ended to soon, and there weren't enough space battles. But I don't watch Gundam for battles so I can forgive the last one.

It sucks that you have to delete episodes right after you watch them. Maybe you can put the episodes on DVD instead of deleting them?

If you want a Gundam anime with war and a story about thoes who are fighting the war, 08th MS Team is definately the one you want.
