View Full Version : Gear 2nd... a way to defeat Aokiji?

Since Luffy developed his Gear 2nd move while thinking about ways to defeat stronger opponents, do you think it's possible he had Aokiji in mind?
He's generating enough body heat to create steam, and he attacks too quick for one to see him hit (in the manga, at least). So would that prevent him from getting frozen too quickly, or allow him to hit without getting caught by Aokiji?
He's probably not heated enough to stop Aokiji's Ice moves, but it could slow him down, right?

Dunno...the only one who could prevent Aokiji from freezing him would probably Ace (from all character's I've seen so far).
Maybe Luffy's Gear 2nd is really fast enough to encounter Aokiji's ice abilities. His heated body probably wouldn't have any effects on ice, so Speed might be the only weapon Luffy can use. But he cannot hold it too long...

^There also the fact that even if he had increased speed and power, that still doesn't give him a way to actually hurt Aokiji. Aokiji is to broken. Even if with him steming, Aokiji could just freeze it all... gas to solid

It's fairly obvious. The moment I saw him go Gear Second, I figured he was going to want to use it against Aokoji, ultimately.

Maybe the whole jet attacks can be used against Aokiji.

i don't get how it would still be effective against a logia. luffy must know this. i think hes planning something to use with his uber fast abilities.
if anything, sanji might be able to take ao kiji because of his heat kicks

He didn't say that his Gear 2 was for Aokiji. He just fund a way to get stronger and to evolve his techniques. If he keeps up with that, he might be able to take down Aokiji one day...

I doubt he's that hot. His body heat is probably just enough to generate steam, but the main thing is that he increases his physical abilities. It's not exactly something like Sanji's new moves. So I doubt it'd help much against Aokiji aside from improving his phsyical abilites, but it's not like that'd help much either if he can just reform, though even a Gomu Gomu no Storm didn't shatter him (in the manga it did nothing but made Luffy freeze quickly, in the anime it did...).

I think it would be great to see Ace fight Aokiji.
As much confidence has I have in Luffy's strength, Luffy still seems a bit out of AoKiji's league. I mean Rubber Paramecia vs Ice Logia.....eh. heh
Luffy had the water/blood for Croc and the convenience of being protected against Enel's lightning attacks. But against someone that can freeze you to death and can turn to ice to dull attacks I have a hard time seeing luffy winning. But Ace would definitely show AoKiji a match.
That's just my two cents though. heh

I said it in another thread, and I'll say it here. If Luffy says he'll beat up someone, he will. He'll find a way to beat Aokoji, maybe Gear Fourth or something.
Did he say he would beat Aokiji? Or wants to?

Well, that actually is rather hard to say. Judging by the way he reacted by the defeat, he seems to want to beat Aokoji.
Well it seemed to me that it wasn't to beat Aokiji, but to protect his crew. Aokiji merely made him realize more than ever, the level of people he's about to face (especially considering where they're headed).

Actually unlike Enel, Croc and the rest, Luffy just said he wants to fight Aokiji one on one.{imo just to distract Aokiji}
Aokiji even had to say "Or did you actually think you could beat me?" meaning Luffy probably didn't say it this time.
I am sure Luffy wants to beat him, but I don't believe it is one of his #1 priorities like the other main villians were.

Ace's main goal is to kill Blackbeard. And Aokoji's biggest concern is Nico Robin. I don't see the two meeting up. He'd be more interested in White Beard than Ace.

That's true, but Ace's goal since we have seen him is to kill Blackbeard and Smoker's was to get Luffy. But that didn't stop Ace from fighting Smoker. In my eyes I could see Aokiji coming after Robin again which would be the same has coming after the SHs and Ace coming after BlackBeard who is interested in Luffy maybe all meeting up at PS. I am not saying it will definitely happen, but I wouldn't write it off. Anything could happen in OP.

Yes, anything is possible. That's why I said I doubt it, not that it will never happen.
Ace fought Smoker so Luffy could get away. Luffy fought Aokiji to protect Robin. I don't think Ace will fight Aokiji if Luffy's around, because Luffy will tell him that he'll be the one to protect Robin.

Once again very true, if Luffy were to tell Ace to back down I am sure he would. Maybe a 4 way fight? heh j/k
I guess we will just have to wait and see, I just hope we do get to see Ace really fight, and I have my doubts Oda would just switch gears and go to Ace in a fight if it's not connected to Luffy in some way.
Gear 2nd definitely isn't enough to defeat Ao Kiji if you ask me, he may fight him later with something new, but it's an admiral using an ice logia fruit, I don't think Luffy's quite there yet.

Heheh. I guess eveuntually the Straw Hats will have everyone chasing them down. Buggy, Smoker, Blackbeard, and now Aokiji? Heheh. That sounds awesome though.

If Luffy uses Bozooka on Aokiji, he will probably burst into ice, and then come back to his normal self. If Luffy uses Giant Pistol, the same thing will happen.
The only way I can see Luffy beating Aokiji is if he adapts a heat attack, like Sanji did with his flaming foot. Perhaps if he could somehow create enough friction with his fist, he could match up with Aokiji. But he hasn't done anything like this yet.

In the anime, it also made it seem like Ace = Smoker. Point being, anime changes things. In the manga, the fact that he didn't break, would probably imply that he didn't... break. Luffy did the Gomu Gomu no Storm, and just like with the Gomu Gomu no Bullet earlier, it couldn't shatter him, but he ended up freezing instead.

I'd like to think that manga is more fact than anime. Of course a regular punch can punch through concrete, and as I pointed out above, a Gomu Gomu no Bullete didn't. Same with Zoro cutting through stone back in Whiskey Peak with a mere sword swing to test out a sword he's never used before, while he couldn't cut through Aokiji's ice saber. It's merely a testament of the level Aokiji is at. Doesn't matter that he's merely using ice (though in terms of the body hits, he doesn't neccessarliy have to be fragile physically just because he has a logia fruit.) Not to say that him breaking isn't a possiblity, but I don't think he did, going by the manga.

The heat combined with his newly found extreme speed might do the trick. If his contact with Aokiji is breif he might be able to avoid being frozen.
If not... I guess Ace is his only hope. I think it is likely that Luffy will be the ony to defeat him, however, because Aokiji is so far the only go to actualy thrash Luffy and get away with it - Luffy owes him an asskicking
