this band is awesome. It went downhill after Danzig left, but i guess thats life. He retorted in an interview that he left because the band was to getting "Too horror movie based". Fair enough:oh

Yes, I love Fear and Loathing, my favourite book! smile-big Check out my av :love
I'v heard the Ramones, and I've heard the Stooges. I've got an Iggy Pop CD and stuff, but I'm just discovering all the ace bands now :grin I keep meaning to listen to some New York Dolls stuff, but haven't got around to it yet for some reason. MC5? No, not heard of them :oh
I have but one problem with all your flattery: I'm not a man! :notrust

You have to listen to MC5 and Velvet Underground. They're the epitome of punk, way before it was ever called punk music.

You just reminded me that I should probably pimp Kick Out The Jams and White Light White Heat.

Back on topic, I've always liked the Misfits for casual listening. I don't really know most of their stuff outside of the greatest hits but their Project 1950 album from a couple of years ago was pretty good.

I've listened to Velvet Underground, and I like them very much! One of my favourites actually.
I'm guessing MC5 is similar? :huh

Brother Wayne Kramer

yeah, but more spastic, and less pop than the velvet underground.

Arty

Actually, that's not a very good way to explain MC5. I wouldn't say the Velvets were "poppy" and I would say MC5 and Velvet are only related in that they started the punk movement with the Stooges.

Velvet was the more sophisticated classic psychadelic rock and MC5 was a return to non Psychadelic basics, with just straight up loud rocking songs with nonsensical lyrics and awesome guitar solos.

Good descriptions there. I tell you, if you want to hear one of the most no bullshit, flat out Rock'n'Roll, listen to some Guitar Wolf. Imagine the Ramones shock to music back then, now, with more.

Oh, sorry Vacant:P its hard to tell on forums......
Ahhh....youve read the book! most people have just seen the film, which is fine. Ive read just about all of HST books, all fantastic! If your a big fan, check out this forum:http://fnlilv.proboards44.com/index.cgi

i don't know about that. lou reed apparently always wanted to create pop music. it wasn't until john cale left the band after white light white heat was released that they started making pop-ish music, but it was apparently always their intention. although, i suppose the mc5 put out kick out the jams at the same time as white light white heat, one being pretty damn noisy and one being probably the most aggressive rock of the time.

yeah, Velvet didnt really seem to have that thing MC5 and Stooges had. They were a bit more pop-ish(?) but still were awesome.

Well, the third album is pretty poppy, you're right. Beggining to see the light, etc. Loaded is also pretty poppy.

I guess you're right. I'm just saying the first two albums were way too sophisticated to be called "pop"

And I'll stop derailing this thread now :(

Good, even though they had Marky Ramone, i still never thought they had the same feel when Danzig was floating around. whats the album with TV casualties and that "well ive got something to say" called again, i cant remember.

there were a few, but the good one is static age. it was their first ever recording, and also their best.

Arty
08-03-2006, 02:37 AM
Yeah, Static Age is a classic.

The Jerry-Only-On-Vocals album Project 1950 was pretty awesome to me, though. Hell, Ronnie Spector was on it.

The Sex Pistols i agree are overated, but their first album is awesome. I dont know about Misfits being better than The Ramones, they really just copied them completely, but i dont care, they sound awesome anyway, at least when Danzig was in the band.

Wow, Joan Jett fan! The Runaways were really awesome, my fav song is wasted. Guitar Wolf are really good, in fact beyond good. They play Music like youve never heard, its what they call, Jet Rock'n'Roll, and they love Joan Jett with a passion, even toured with her and the Blackhearts. Their music is hard to describe, hard to reference to other music, but ill try. Imagine the Ramones with incredible distortion, 5x faster, 20x louder, with a rockabilly sort of twist. They only thing i can recommend is to get one of their albums and turn it way up.

I have to check that Guitar wolfs band.:amazed
About misfits- Whichs their most famous song? I think ¨hybrid moments¨¨ or Turned into martian.¨

Ive heard the ramones (who doesnt?) i just dont like the way they sound but thats only my opinion.and Didnt sex pistols just recorded 1 studio album? they are so famous due to all their scandals and anarchy stuff.oh yeah. and cause sid vicious was so cute and died.Anyway, i admit that ¨anarchy in th Uk¨and ¨god save the queen¨ will be eternal as punk anthems.

Yes, and that album was one of the greatest punk albums ever recorded, IMO.
they are so famous due to all their scandals and anarchy stuff.
I agree, other punk bands of the time were only interested in putting up a front, and bringing in the money. At least the Pistols had the decency to actually know what they were on about with Anarchy... plus, they pulled off one of the best stunts in music history on the Queen's jubilee... however much I like them, the Misfits just liked to dress up :oh
oh yeah. and cause sid vicious was so cute and died.
Sid Vicious was anything but 'cute', man.

as for the misfits being mediocre...well......not really they sound awesome, even there are a few too many whoa-whoa-o-o's in there lol.

and as for Sid.......hmmmm.....he couldnt even play bass, the guitarist had to play doubly hard just to cover for him, lol, he sung allright though.

the misfits are far from mediocre in comparison with the ramones and the sex pistols. The sex pistols were very overrated, and, while i do enjoy later ramones music, early ramones was nothing much more than bubble gum rock, as catchy as it was.
