I don't think there has been a post about this. I may be wrong.
Ponder me this. How is Luffy so strong. I mean we've seen him send people flying, knock down buildings, lift heavy objects. I don't think its because of the DF. Any thoughts?

Well going up a beanstalk with a 50 ton ball on your right hand would mean he is pretty strong...it's the meat.

The reason: it's a shonen manga.

Well, first off, he's been training ever since he was a kid(he said this while fighting Kuro, it was how he was able to lift the boulder so easily). After that, his strength just grew as he continued to travel and fight. It's like how Zoro's strength and stuff keeps increasing, the only difference being that, I think, Luffy seems more flexible in that he doesn't need to keep training, he's just able to get better. I think it's how he observes things. He was able to see croc's weakness even when he was getting his ass kicked. With that kind of observence, he can probably see his own lack in skill, and in later fights make up for it by being a more skilled fighter, and with skill comes power.
Of course, Gear 2 does give him more strength also.

I think it's because he's still under Jango's spell.

He's a D, that's why. Every D we've seen is strong.
And when he eats meat he automatically becomes strong, just like when Popeye at spinach.

Blackbeard wasn't very impressive. Or wait, was he the one who attacked Drum Island?

If my memory isn't completely failing me, I believe it was indeed Blackbeard who attacked Drum.
And concerning Luffy's strength, it's a manga, Luffy's the main character and possibly because he's a D. And maybe because of meat. A main character in a shounen manga is immortal.:wink

50 ton? Gold weighs 19,300 Kilos per cubic meter. Thats 40,530 pounds a cubic meter. The volume of the a sphere is 4/3(Pi)R^3. Assuming a 1m radius. Luffy was hauling 54,000 pounds, 27 tons. Assuming a 1.5M radius, 182,385 pounds or 91 tons. If the ball is 2m? 323,440 pounds, or 161 tons. Given that the ball varies widely in size between 1 and 2m radius, luffys casual strength is somewhere around there. Furthermore the size of the ball multiplied by the frictive co-effcient of average wood and the 45° angle of the stalk means that he can easily lift at leave 1.5 times whatever sum is shown.

Dalton said that th "Their captain was called "Blackbeard... They ruined our country in a blink with their overwhelming power." So he's probably very impressive.
But as already stated, when Kuro asked why he's so strong since it's not the fruit, he said it's because he's been training to be stronger.

I wasn't being particularly generous though.
Luffy's grandfather is a giant. Whether there's a biological relationship between them is unknown, though, but it could explain why both he and Ace are so powerful even without their DFs.

To whoever repped me for the Jango comment: I wasn't completely joking. The first time he ever showed any huge amount of strength was right after the hypnosis.

That would be me, lol.
Never realised you was partially serious:P
But remember, Jango dispelled it and that caused him to drop the...urr..pole with the cat in it, and at that moment he fell asleep and fell underneath the pole.

Who said i hate naruto? Only stating Naruto is closer to a super saiyan, well his transformation/attack anyway. I don't hate naruto, dislike it? Yes. Did it get horrible after ep. 100? Yes. Do i still read the manga? Yes. Has it gotten better? Somewhat but still pretty bad. I'm just hoping it gets better but at this right it's not :(

Luffy's strength comes from his desire and having no doubt - to not give up on his dream of being the Pirate King and his nakama make him the strongest.
Edit: So does Naruto and Ichigo. Which is why these guys are the HEROS and main characters. How can you guys not realize that?

He's the captain of the Mugiwara Pirates and has to be strongest in order to protect his nakama and definitely to become the pirate king. I definitely agree with monkeyfrom_uranus on this. Plus he's a "D" so yeah, :P.

He's a SUPER SAYAN, thats why he grows stronger after each fight:)

My own belief of luffy's strength comes from him being the decendant of a Giant. If you read the manga, its hinted by Admiral Aokiji, as he said that he had to deal with Luffy's grandffather 20 years ago, which was the time that Robin's home island was destroyed by the bustercal, and the Giant she met there said that everyone in his family recieved that initial of D.
Giants like meat, Luffy likes meat. The 2 giants he met were always in good spirits, so is luffy. Even when he was younger (in the episode with shanks) luffy said that he had a punch as strong as a pistol, but he never got to hit the guy who kidnapped him.
I unno, just wat i think.
