View Full Version : Should I get into One Piece

Hey all, I'm just wondering, I've never actually seen One Piece, but I've heard its really good. I've always wanted to get into it, but its size seemed kind of daunting to me lol. I'd really like to see it but it just looks far too time consuming and I don't want to have realised I'd wasted loads of time by not watching it.
I'm into - Naruto, Blood+, Evangelion, Hunter X Hunter, Rurouni Kenshin, kind of into Bleach. Those are kind of like my top favourites r the ones I watch most often (Well, not Bleach but I thought I should add that since its another Shonen like OP).
I really do like Shonen Series as they're the types you can just settle into and really enjoy, but I won't like it if its all comedy. I saw the first ep of OP in dub and it was..... ok. What I'm looking for is a story with some comedy, good and well animated action (Though quality of animation doesn't matter too much) likeable characters, good and different emotions, a plot that is fast moving and engaging, not too repetitive, and just a nice fun feeling. I'm kind of looking for a second Naruto as Naruto got me out of depression when I was 14, so I'm just wondering lol.
So, is One Piece an anime I could get into, or do you think its not worth me watching it?

You should really like One Piece, in that case.

One Piece has all of this.
a plot that is fast moving and engaging,
One Piece plots are engaging, imo, but they can be a tad slow. By that, I don't mean there's slow pacing (your usual manga chapter of One Piece covers more material than any Naruto/Bleach chapter), but rather One Piece arcs tend to get longer and longer.
For example, the current One Piece manga arc, while the best one so far (imo), has been going on for 2 years already.
and just a nice fun feeling. I'm kind of looking for a second Naruto as Naruto got me out of depression when I was 14, so I'm just wondering lol.
One Piece is a great feel-good anime. :amuse
So, is One Piece an anime I could get into, or do you think its not worth me watching it?
Extremely worth it.
The story might not be OMFG SO COOL!! at first, but as you get further into it, it becomes increasingly awesome and never dies down.
One Piece is an anime/manga that only gets better and better, imo.

From what you said I think you'd like One Piece. It has everything: action, comedy, lots of emotion, decent plot, and AWSOME characters.
Btw, do not take the One Piece dub as an example of what the show is like. Watch the subs, they're WAY different and WAY better :amuse.

If you like manga, I suggest that, then.
I prefer the One Piece manga to the anime, myself.

Hmm... In truth, I prefer anime. I just get a bit too bored reading Manga, not that I don't like reading. But still...
So yeah, I really would prefer the anime, so do you know if there are actually any sites I can download from?
Thanks smile-big

Thanks The Slips XD I hope they're at a good speed :oh
And Ippo-Kun, thanks, but I really don't enjoy reading Manga, especially not on the computer lol. I'm sure it is better, they almost always are, but I like pretty colours and voices and mooovement :) Thanks though :)
Whoo! I might be a soon-to-be a One Piece fan smile-big

I would highly reccomend One Piece to you. If you think the first episode of the dub was "okay" then you'll absolutely love the sub. I read the manga, but I also sometimes watch the anime. It's an extremely good series.

Just remember the first 50ish episodes does NOT define the anime. Those episodes are basically all about learning and understanding the characters of the Straw Hat crew. After the crew is in the Grand Line, then you'll start enjoying it for what it truly is.
But if you don't have the time and/or patience for such a task...well...I guess there is nothing else I can say about that...

Doesn't matter anyway, just downloaded and watch the first 4 episodes... I love it already!!! Its so happy :):) And the animation/art/perspective is A-MA-ZING!! The fight scene with Captain Morden was so quick and stylish and well animated... makes me eager to see what the rest are like.
Thanks everyone! I'm now a One Piece fan! Man... that was quick! :oh :P

I read it all in less than a day and saw 230 eps in a week. does that help??
Right now is the best anime out there. and right now it's on the best arc so far. Considering that each new arc is even better than the old ones.
Hurray for recruiting another OP fan! ^_^

hey guys i want to get into one piece cause my cousin is a mega one piece fan and keeps talking about it and sounds so awesome. However the early episodes turn me off because of the animation, i tend to not like the old animation style anymore. I'm into naruto, bleach and other shounen. I saw the latest opening opening 5 and i thought it looked really awesome. So i tried getting into the series from like episode 100, but im so lost. What episode should i start? i have read everyone's past and character.

Eh, I'd rather you watch from the beginning and tough it out, but if you already know everyone's pasts and stuff, you could start around 25-ish... which is the Arlong Park arc. It's really where it all came together for me.

It's one thing to skip fillers (even though most are good) but skipping entire canon episodes is a real bad idea.
You'll get confused at what happening just skipping 10 minutes in a episode...you'll be extremely lost if you're thinking of skipping entire canon arcs!!

Start from episode 1 unless you wanna be really confused.
I was put off by the art style in the beggining but now I realize that it's actually unique and refreshing compared to other Shounen manga like Naruto and Bleach. You'll get used to the art eventually :amuse.

if you watch for the story and try to tolerate the animation, the animation will definately grow on you. i remember first ep i was appalled by luffy's look and voice, but now his voice and character design is one of my favorite in anime.

Go, see, ep 1. Now.
The 11 comandment: Thou shall see One Piece.
Don't worry about the animation. OP is considered in Japan the 3rd greatest Anime of all time. Only surpassed by DBZ (tough I hate it) and Doraemon (since it's for kids most brats watch it)

Actually DBZ wasn't that popular in Japan when it was being aired. It wasn't until the rest of the world went DBZ-crazy years after the series ended that DBZ was acclaimed for its greatness. It showed Japan the true power of international merchandising!!:laugh
Doraemon on the other hand...it's part of Japan. One of the few things left that can be understood and loved by all Japanese citizens even with the HUGE generation gaps of the young and old. With 2,000+ episodes and countless movies, it has the right to be up there.
When One Piece is great enough to stand alongside these two animes, I can't see why people won't give it a chance.

ARE YOU MAD?!?!?! The animation in One Piece is BRILLIANT considering it was made in 1999! The computer integration within pans and zooms, etc. are incredible. And how can you not like old style?! :P That really limits the amount of anime you can watch. Imagine not wanting to watch Evangelion simply because its animation isn't state of the art... *faints*
But meh, we all have our opinions! lol
Anyways, thanks everyone! I Downloaded the AVI eps up until ep 6, because then the eps started not wanting to play.
However, anyone who might want to watch some older episodes and don't mind NON-AVI video quality, then check out NarutoFob, it has eps 1-60 in extremely good RMVB format, and the downloads take 20 minutes.
Here's a link to the download page; http://www.narutofob.com/page.php?id=3961 You have to join, but its free and takes about 30 secs to sign up. And don't forget to thank the guy, Alex, as he puts up loads of series, like the entire Black Cat too smile-big
