This is quite an old issue, but I have to say this... Yes, that's right. Kira is not a Newtype, but a god in the SEED Universe. :P

IMO, that "newtype flash" he did during Episode 39 of Destiny was only an exaggeration to show how kickass he actually is.

Yeah, exactly. It's funny how people bring that up, but he's never shown any other form of newtype abilities such as precognition, calling forth ghosts (Fllay doesn't count since Fukuda already squashed that rumor), and other wacky psychic abilities. He's just that good. XD

I needed to get it off my chest because a lot of people assume he is a newtype because of the flash and instantly give him powers that combine everything from Amuro to Uso.

the odd thing about CE "newtypes" is that they seem to have no newtype powers at all... well maybe exept for detecting other dudes that get the new type flash thing... basically i'd say that there are no real newtypes in CE. only newtype wannabe dudes that get the new type flash:amuse

Well, Fukuda said in an interview that Mwu and Rau were the last "newtypes" in that era, and since nothing has been said about Destiny from Fukuda's mouth since then, we can pretty much state that there were none in Destiny. I mean, Ray... maybe, but still, not even a word from Fukuda about the flash or the possibility. Its more of a tribute than anything else, since so much doesn't make sense in Destiny anyway. XD

still mwu and rau never showed genuine newtype powers... all they do is get the newtype flash whenever they're near eachother...

were there people here that thought kira was a newtype? i thought everyone figured that he wasn't. :oh

In Destiny..Ray and Mwu only get one newtype bling back in episode 3 or soemthing, although I'm sure that was just to make people assume that Neo was Mwu. Then there were no more 'blings' between them, even if they're near eachother. Which I thought was pretty stupid, but Destiny wasn't that great with the plot anyway.

As far as I know, there was never a Newtype concept in the SEED saga. Rau Le Creuset and Mu La Flaga's "newtype flashes" is enough to say that Newtypes could exist in the Cosmic Era, but as ssouske said, neither one of them was able to show Newtype capabilities (and saying that "Rau controlling the funnel-ish DRAGOONS of Providence is a Newtype ability" doesn't count :P).
