Hi, I'm rather new to anime- started with dbz when i was a kid- who didnt though, but seirously started watching last year. Ive seen naruto, bleach, bebop fate stay night, eureka seven, champloo, and want to try gundam. Can some one give me a little backround information about gundam- like plot, types of action(is it all action (example: DBZ) or is it a mixture of both(example: Eureka seven, and fate/stay night) THanks in advance. Oh yeah and how long are each of the series- im speculating that there are many as seen in this forum- are the sizes around 25-50 eps each? Thanks.

Gundam originally began in 1979 with Mobile Suit Gundam, created by famed Yoshiyuki Tomino, at first it was a flop. But late night reruns attracted a huge adult fanbase. Although cancled at 43 episodes, Sunrise decided to let Tomino go back using the old footage of the series and some new footage to create three movies. The first movie was called Mobile Suit Gundam the Movie (1981), it was followed by 1981's MSG II Soldiers of Sorrow and then 1982's MSG III Encounters in Space. These three movies made Japan crazy for more Gundam, and so in 1985 the first sequel series was ordered. Director/creator Tomino returned to the helm for MSG Zeta Gundam, taking place 7 years after the first series. I suggest going to wikipedia.com and searching for Gundam to learn more about the franchise.
I suggest that if you want to start somewhere start with the three MSG movies. Recently a boxset was released containing the three movies, after words I would go to Zeta Gundam, it's been released on five 'chapters' each 'chapter containing ten episodes of the fifty episode series.
