Inspiration of OP characters?

we were having this discussion in the robin fc thread, so i figured it might be more interesting if more people were in on this. where do you think oda got some of his ideas for his characters? so far we've determined that franky is ace ventura and popeye, and that ussop is definately pinocchio. any other good ideas?

I don't come here often so bear w/ me. People always say that Luufie is always eating because he is greedy/gluttoneous/genericanimecharacter. I say it is because his stomach stretches and he is never full.

Anyway, its said in the SBS that Luffy is based off of Goku from Dragonball.

franky's definitely popeye, gaining strength from cola (spinach)
enel was based off eminem iirc

Zoros inspiration actually came from a real life pirate named francois l'olonais (i think thats how you spell it) which explains why is name is roronoa zoro. Hes also kind of vegeta esque i would say

Franky was inspired partially by popeye and partially by frankenstein

Usopp was based off of pinochio was the lies and the long nose and all... he also reminds me of krillin though

Nami means wave but that only explains her name

Chopper was given his name because it looks like his horns could chop down trees and was partially inspired by rudolph

Sanji means 3 o' clock but im not sure what inspired him as a character

I dont know about robin... probably some similarities with birds though

Those are all cases where there's no denying that Oda was going for a direct reference.

A lot of the characters from one piece where actually based off of real life pirates.
Two of the ones I can remember off hand are:
The VERY obvious one is Blackbeard, who's name is Marshall D. Teach in the anime, and the real Blackbeard's name was Edward Teach.
Another is Bartholomew Kuma who you see holding a bible, who is based off of Bartholemew Roberts, or "Black Bart." Black Bart was a a very succesful (In fact, he is believed to be the most succesful pirate, capturing a total of 450+ vessels in his day) who was known for his relgious obstinacy.
