Ok. Those guys are really good.

And Falcon = Scary. Really. Scary. Some guy must have beat me in one minute or something. But then again, I wasn't warmed up, but still. Falcon is T__T

But I did take this guy's pro Fox down to one stock with my Falco.

My Marth needs Fair combos and mindgames. Via. everything...

Falco needs to work on teching, bit more SHL, and perfecting my play. And i'm set with Falco.

But its REALLY fun playing with those guys. They're all really nice, too. And when you've played a good match, it's definately worth the time and money. And make sure the adrenaline running through your arms isn't fucking you up!

PS: Falcon is fast, scary, and not fair T__T

Yeah competition play is crazy. I remember playing people like Alex Valle in games like CvS2 at E3 2001 and it wasn't pretty at all. Pro play is on another level outside of my dedication. So I'm not surprised he lost on his very first tourney. He'd still probably rape you in SSBM though. XD

Who is not good with Fox / falco / marth ? the tourney you went to i seen it but i seen better and went to better. one at otakon is much more intense then the one you went to.

i Play at tourneys but the ppl who make the top 5 without Fox / falco/marth/roy/link are true skill full players . i got to the top 6 one year with Kirby. the top 5 where Falco , Link, Gannon, Bowser. The last two fighting where gannon and bowswer they pulled off some crazy shit man i was amazed :oh

over all tourneys are fun but there are assholes in them and its ppl like that that ruin them sadly.

otakon tourney when i went 2003 they had 150 ppl in it. last year i heard was 200 + but i was not there .

Man, I am going to have to go to a tourny some time, but I still have to get better! One of my friends plays a good falcon, I mean, he isn't pro level, but I know how strong they can be.

Man pro play rocks though. There are only two games I'm remotely close to pro play in, and that's SF3 and GGXX. But in terms of GGXX, I wouldn't get past the 2nd round. With SF3....probably the third :(.

Anyway, I've seen some Smash Bros tourneys, and those people are just insane.

If "you've seen this tournament", how many people were there, who won, what were the prizes, and who exactly was there?

And yes, those guys are very good with all of the characters. DSF beat some guy's Marth(seemed like one of his mains) with Pichu. The guy was frickin' sick with Marth, too. And if you didn't know, DSF is the #2 socal player. And the 6 other(good) guys there were top socal players.

Plus, otakon is not a REAL tournament. If it is, gimme some links. By far, OC2 = the big one.

And you think i'm going to fucking OC2 without going to any other tournaments? Of course I play for fun(or else why would I go), but I also want to be hella competitive. And i'm sure as hell getting there.

PS: And for some reason, when random people come and watch, they look at our hands and go nuts.

i seen the torunament on there forums and some videos of the players etc.

otakon is a big anime convention basically held in Baltimore maryland with a gameing section as well and that gaming section is just filled with tourneys smash being the more popular one.

Yea ppl do look at your hands but its the crazy mid air moves that some ppl pull off that simply others cannot that get ppl going.

Yea picu is proabably the only character i fear the most in the whole game ppl do some crazy crap with that little guy that and ness.

Well there were 2 melee tournaments at Anime Boston this past weekend, a total of 128 people signed up to play. But what sucked about it was that it used items....idk whose idea was that

I think there were maybe 4 or 5 really good players who knew how to fight pro-style, while everyone else was just there to have fun I guess. I came in 2nd to this crazy Fox, but then again, it's very hard to win against a Fox with a Ness.

Man, I want to play in a tournament!

Yeah, Foxes are tough for Ness, so are Marths and Shieks (but who are Marth and Shiek easy for?).

Noir, were there any Ness players at the tourny you went to?

Chemistry
05-30-2006, 01:51 AM
Naaa. In friendlies, the pros used everyone, but no one's main was a low tier chara. But for the competition, everyone used their mains. Except for DSF. He 3 stocked my friend's Sheik with G&W and 4 stocked him with Pikachu in the tourney...

i played in one with items not all items some where takin out like pokeballs /bats/ hammers etc. but let me say this with most items it makes you use more skill in the game to Avoid or use those items against your enemy. Meaning i would use his items against himslef. Fox is a bitch in this aspect since he can reflect items and what not back at you and what not. But With most items on does add another lvl of gameplay that you should master in terms of advoiding, refelecting, and using them against your opponent.

a Great ness can be better than a Great Fox. belive me i seen it happen. Ness is one power house.

FFA tourney? I guess...

But as the tiers say, 18 characters are better than Ness.

slimscane
05-30-2006, 02:17 AM
Most of us smash players know the tier list, but I only think Ness is so low because his learning curve is so high. I mean, I think Ness is harder to be good with then most other characters, which would be common sense right? But I think that a Master Ness could take on a Master (insert top tier character), it is just alot harder to master Ness then the others.

Ssj3_Goku
05-30-2006, 02:20 AM
Correct slimscane. He does have a higher learning curve big time thats why alot of ppl dog him and what not. That is why i praise ppl who master those kind of guys and do well instead of ppl who pick the obvious Fox,Marth,Roy type deals all the time because honestly there learning curve is not that hard at all.

Chemistry
05-30-2006, 02:21 AM
No, his low range, slow speed, and easy-to-intercept return is what makes him low tier.

And Roy is not that good. >.>

And Fox is not easy to master. >.>

slimscane
05-30-2006, 02:25 AM
Don't say that Ness is slow, he is one of the fastest players in the game, unless you think Shiek is slow, because Ness is faster than her. Also, Ness has a good range on most of his attacks, especially his bat, fair, and dash, only his grab has a "bad" range, but his throws are great. His return is fairly easily interceptable, but if you are practiced with it you can generally make it just as safe as any other return.

Yoshitsune
05-30-2006, 02:55 AM
Ness is not faster than Sheik, BUT he is heavier and not easily thrown off the stage.

Like SJ3 said, Ness is good on 4 player battles since you can totally annihilate people with his PKT's, which is what I kept doing~

slimscane
05-30-2006, 03:03 AM
Ness is like, the third fastest character in the game, I think that Fox and Falcon are faster. I didn't believe it when I first heard it either, I mean, I read it on smashboards, but with alot of teching, he is really really fast, and yes, even faster than shiek. It is just that most Ness players, me included, tend to stay in the air most of the time, so that speed isn't really seen.

Yoshitsune
05-30-2006, 03:17 AM
True. I use Ness like a fighter jet

Reznor
05-30-2006, 05:07 AM
I don't think the tiers.
At pre-tournament levels, the characters are roughly balanced.

The fact that in tournaments 90% of the characters as useless is a bit stupid. Same with most moves being useless too.

At tournament level, everyone is the same style and it's less about tactics so much as flawless combos and reflexes.

I hope that the new smash bros can make it harder to get to that stage.

Zouri
05-30-2006, 05:50 AM
Well, as far as I'm concerned, I really don't worry about tiers. If that was the case, I would have probably traded Mario for the good Dr. at the very least. I'd rather master what I'd want than what tiers say, especially at tournament level. Then I'd really feel I have achieved something when I play against someone, especially if I win.

As far as me and tournaments go, I've never been to one. The closest thing I've been to is Fanime. There are some good people, but I know that there not really pro level. So, I'll just have to keep playing.

Yoshitsune
05-30-2006, 12:59 PM
Some people praise tiers soo much like over the weekend when people were playing, they were surprised a low tier was battling a high tier etc.
They obviously know who is on high and low, which is sad that they memorized the list..

slimscane
05-30-2006, 03:44 PM
^haha, even if I had known about these tiers when I first picked up the game I would still play as Ness, because that is who I played as in the first game. My characters are Ness (low tier), Luigi (middle tier), and Game and Watch (low tier); nah, I don't really see myself caring about the tier list :amuse

Chemistry
05-30-2006, 09:49 PM
Well, you have to care about the tier list. At least in metagame. That's why we have low-tier tournaments ^__^

Yoshitsune
05-31-2006, 12:15 AM
Low tier tournaments sound like fun~
It would divide players based on skill with characters that aren't considered good, then players from both tier areas can fight

slimscane
05-31-2006, 01:06 AM
Noir, you have a point about the meta game, and low tier tournies would be fun just to fight against players that usually don't play, but it kind of implies that we can't fight top tierers, which I don't like :laugh
