Voynich
05-30-2006, 02:23 PM
I'm giving up my judge spot for this week too. Way too busy on less' new vector sig and I'm at like 200 layers already and I don't even have 1/10th done =.=

KageMane
05-30-2006, 04:11 PM
I wish I could see that .psd! :P

Voynich
05-30-2006, 04:21 PM
Haha, sorry. The file is huge and there would be little to see anyway. Each shape is a new layer and some shapes are like only 40 pixels. I'm for about 1/4th done now and at 1000 layers already x_X

Edit: 4 mb already apparently.

Oh on a sidenote: Is there anyone interested if I'd make a tut on vectoring in PS aka use of pentool? I mean, I wouldn't mind making one if enough people are interested, but if it's just a few it's easier for me to teach stuff over msn/aim. ( just asking here since most people tend to pop in this thread XD )

KageMane
05-30-2006, 05:19 PM
I'm interested in that tut Maho. Ive tried to learn pentool by myself but I cant get anything good...

Gallic Rush
05-30-2006, 05:21 PM
It would be so great if you could impart some wisdom on the rest of us :wtf

For me personally, I've always had a hard time in the gfx communities because everyone is all about the C4D rendering and I don't do that kind of thing ;__;

Voynich
05-30-2006, 05:28 PM
Okay then. I'll try to make some basic tut from which you can work further by yourself. Gimme a week for that. Or better, add me on msn or something. I'll remember then prolly XD

No worries Gallic, I can't even do basic bg renders not to mention C4D.

Need some help here:

Is it something wrong with the theme? Is it too hard / boring etc ? Why are there so few entries?

Voynich
05-30-2006, 05:36 PM
I think lot of people are preparing for exams and are thus not really available for sigmaking and stuff.

* i personally think it's a bit boring too, but i wasn't gonna enter regardless the theme so..*

Well, summer is kind of a hard theme to work with unless you photomanip or something... I guess you can go with warm and sweaty but other than that how does one go about portraying "summer?" I personally haven't made an entry yet because I've been working on other tags and not been making much progress.

Lunar

Make something with summer colors
IE - Light blue, yellow, bright, orange, red, light greens and such

I made an entry but it wasn't very good. I need to work with that particular type of smudging/brushing before it starts to look good -.-

Gunslinger37
06-05-2006, 05:22 PM
the reason no one enters is cause the same people win with the same style over and over and over again..... did i mention the same people??? Its like a popularity contest instead of best sigs....

Gunslinger, I know what you mean, but believe me when I say it's far worse at most other GFX communities. Not that it makes it a good thing or anything, but honestly the entries weren't that great this week.

azuken
06-07-2006, 12:33 AM
This was the stupidest SOTW, people had an extra week to do it. Its BS.

you werent going to win anyways unless you really know the mods and judges

It's interesting how many of the entries, including some which have already received votes, have nothing to do with summer and fail to convey the idea. Around half of the entries should be disqualified (it's not that they convey the idea poorly; they don't convey it at all). I really don't even see why there's a theme.

The entries by Raziel, hayate-kun, Snoopy, Wildfire, and xXmagnesiumXx, while nice images, have absolutely nothing to do with summer unless you make some far-fetched abstractions. Entries by Gallic Rush, azuken, Air Grady, .snK, and Lunar marginally have something to do with summer... mostly bikinis and most of them without a color-scheme or setting reminiscent of summer; just think of a commercial with a super model: does that remind you of summer? No.

Only did KageMane and Suzuhiko actually submit entries (both good btw) that actually comply (well) with the theme. Figuratively speaking, it doesn't make sense that you should win a contest that requires a photo when you submit a painting, even if it's the Mona Lisa itself.

Remy LeBeau

Stop bitching about the SOTW.

Like Gallic said, there weren't many good entries this week. Make a good sig and the judges will vote for you.

Like Gallic said, there weren't many good entries this week. What does that have to do with anything? I didn't say any of the entries were bad; just that they aren't meeting the requirements. I mean, your only prize is being able to pick the theme. At least people can respect that. (Since no one specified a theme this round and the rules thread seems to have vanished, I can't confirm that's even in effect anymore.) Anyway, I just wanted to make the point that it's sad that people that enter a good entry by the limitation of a theme aren't the ones winning.

Mods pick the theme.

Raziel's entry was a good fit for summer. He had a blue bg with a hot chick. When i go to town in the summer i see blue skyes and hot chicks.

His entry deserved to win, so stop complaining.

Remy LeBeau
06-07-2006, 04:51 AM
Kagemane's was more original though and it was just as good imho.

Even so, i still think Raziels entry is the best.

Raziel's entry was a good fit for summer. He had a blue bg with a hot chick. When i go to town in the summer i see blue skyes and hot chicks.Naturally, I considered his entry before my initial post since he had received votes by everyone but himself. The thing is, I wouldn't have even known the blue was portraying the sky if he hadn't specifically said so in his entry post. Judging from the image alone, it isn't at all clear, though one might ultimately make that assumption through an abstraction.

Besides, when I walk outside in the winter, the sky tends to be pretty blue. I would think most would agree that "hot chicks" don't suddenly turn ugly (become un-hot) during non-summer seasons either.

And as far as hot girls go, I'd say .snK beats out Raziel because of the weight-loss (for summer looks?) abstraction (plus the girl).

JSG, I think that for the most part you have a point. Still, with the theme as it was there were so few entries. Remember that we're not rewarding people for their ability to stick to the theme even if we do want them to adhere to it.

I feel I should also remind you that due to the recent inactivity on the art forum the mods haven't been to picky (when they've been around :O).

Remy LeBeau
06-07-2006, 02:11 PM
Yeah anyway, it doesn't help with all this complaining.

When is the new SOTW coming up???

mods??
